Happy November :))
I am hoping to stay focused through the holidays this year. (I did not stockup on halloween candy, but the silly season for food is ramping up already, so it is awesome to be with other people - glad you are easing back into things :)

Ps, several days topics are the same every month, like the first 5 and last 2 days, then it is random to the person posting it that day… ;)

I am also trying to stay focused for tge holidays @yakkystuff. Fortunately, we live in an area where there aren't tickets or treaters ( houses too far apart, they do the trunk or treat thing in town.) So no candy in the house.
I have been having some fun with the tracking again. Really trying to focus on finding the best breakfast. Right now I have a couple ofcreally good options. 400 to 500 calories with 30+ grams of protein.
Thanks for the pointers on the days. I'll keep my eye out for that. TBH, there are some names I recognize from another group I was in that was....interesting. Long-ish story. Kind of waiting to see how it goes but staying in for now.
How is November going for you so far?

I am on board with finding good meals. Was just thinking how family always had particular 'special' treats - don't you think that is normal - like traditional pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving?
It occurred to me, that emotional connection is fine - but to find nourishing/good everyday foods I enjoy.
This morning tried something, pb stirred into a protein yogurt with cereal crumbled on top (granola like.) It was a keeper… good for a quick breakfast or lunch. will probably have to buy more yogurt now, lol ;)
Ps, it's a small world! Think I found the group about Mar or April - stable 40ish people usually but a lot of changeover. A few regulars missing this month, but imagine it might go a bit quieter through the holidays, and roar again at New Years.
Had a couple tough months, but back on a roll. I don't want to stop now either.

Yeah @yakkystuff the traditional foods do get me. Especially some types of Christmas cookies. I used to be a baking fool around the holidays. Now keep it to just 2 kinds, really. And give most away. I do believe in having some during the holidays so tend to eat at maintenance and enjoy for the week of about Dec. 24 to the 31st. And Thanksgiving and day after too.
It seems as if you are trying to focus on a lot on whole foods. Trying to do that as well and avoid the truly processed ones as much as possible. We live in a great area with lots of local farms, so access to awesome fruits and vegs at a good price. My husband hunts and fishes, so that's a lot of our meat. And we can get other local meat easily as well. We frequently talk about how privileged we are and grateful to be here.
I love pb fit stirred into yogurt. I'll use it as a dip with my apples. Breakfast this morning was yogurt, some chocolate protein powder, a sprinkle of granola and fresh pineapple. So yummy.
I get what you mean about some tough months. Feels good to be getting back at it. And doing it more slowly this time has really helped me identify some fast changes I can make that will help me stay on track. Like swapping out cheddar cheese for low fat mozzarella. Better for calories and my cholesterol level.
I like the new group so far. I agree i think things will quiet down then really jump up again. Pretty typical, I think.

Wow, yum, I clearly like most foods because I am drooling here, LoL
Yes, same here... I thought to let go of the big holiday baking and candy hauls - leaves me with, well what other deliciousness can I eat then???
It really is a new mental shift, but kind of exciting to explore things. Except I am making dirty pots & pans out the ying yang!! LoL
I am glad you are getting better and here to talk these things!

I know what you mean about the dirty pots and pans!! We only eat out once every couple of weeks. Usually splitting a meal and app because portions are so big. But all that home cooking means lots of dirty dishes.
But I really like the control over what I am eating and how it is prepared. We have been trying a bunch of new recipes this year based on local produce and access to foods. Things like acorn squash stuffed with wild rice, mushrooms and sausage.
We are supposed to get snow this weekend. I am not looking forward to this because i am so not ready. But, just guess that is what I get for choosing to live where I do. Maybe I'll make a big pot of chili this weekend. Will make my week easier.

Hey @yakkystuff how is it going this month? 1/3 of November is over. Where has this year gone?!? Hope you are doing well.
Pulled a muscle in my back over the weekend, so trying to go slow and manage that. I tend to do better with movement when that happens, so lots of slow pacing. Easy to get steps in that way, lol.
Any Thanksgiving plans? Trying to figure ours out. Think it'll be small this year. I cook, which is good sk I can control sides and oils/butter, etc. Definitely will not ge tracking that day.

Wowser, life kicked into overdrive here! Whew...
Ouch on your back - hope it resolves soon. Have you gone through a similar injury recovery? There is a sweet spot between rest and use... and not to push into reinjury, so I hope you have help if needed for the daily physical things!
Holiday feasty days, I also don't track/fret the actual feast meals/day but I have been trying to enjoy some without hitting that 'too stuffed must nap' kind of feeling! Less grazing, more yakking ;)
I was thinking of doing a frozen light pumpkin mousse in chocolate waffle cones for a kidlet (& me) dessert option.

Thanks for your thoughtful words. And yes, this is not a new injury for me. I have learned overtime that easy movement, think a 2 mile an hour walking pace, and stretching will get me back. I'm probably at 80% now.
Your dessert sounds great. I always rely on someone else to manage tgat part.
Going to warm up here for a couple of days. A fall beach walk may be in my future!

My dream would be to live near/oceanside. We do daytrips often… so hope you can get a stroll in!
Rained cats & dogs today... but happened to clear most of the times I was scooching to/from the car.
How's the back healing?
Doc is putting in a referral for some PT… a new adventure! (If approved ;)
Did I mention our nephews moved out of state a bit ago for school & such? One just announced his engagement - so guess he's not moving back. Most are going there to meet her, so we will be staying home and catch up later. Requested pics!
Did you decide on your dishes to try? Thinking we will do a turkey (like to smoke on bbq 90 mins then finish in oven, pan of hot sausage stuffing & green beans for hubby, roast some sweet potatoes for me,
and I think a green dinner salad with diced apple, pecans & craisins. Maybe still the mousse instead of pie, then will have a week of leftovers!
Time to shop for that! I can't believe how Nov is zipping bye bye!

We live by one of the Great Lakes, Lake Michigan. So that is where I get my beach walks. I love the ocean and we hope to spend a chunk of time in retirement somewhere tropical and out of Michigan winters. But that is still 5 to 8 years away.
Congrats on your nephews engagement! That is super exciting.
Your menu sounds great. I really do need to get mine figured out and shopping done. For some reason just feeling kind of meh 😕 about it this year.
Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Well, weekend flew by!! Blast off tomorrow, exceedingly busy, already want a nap! Haha
My idea of Great Lakes cold is Grumpy Old Men movie ice fishing. Brrrr!
How's the back? It's easy to feel meh - cut non-essentials and enjoy...
I hope they put on the traditional movies this year - we always wrapped up Thanksgiving with Sound of Music. I really miss those times & peoples…

The weekend did really fly by. This week will be super crazy busy. But then lots of people will take the beginning of next week off, so I'll get do much done.
Grumpy old men ice fishing is good for us this time of year. But the summers make it all worth it. As long as I can get outside most days, I am good. With the right gear, of course.
Still need to get my Thanksgiving shopping done. Probably won't happen till the weekend. Oh well...we will all survive.
Back is doing pretty well, I'd say 95%.
How are you doing?
I love the traditional holiday movies too. Sounds of Music is a classic!!
Have a good week

Hi hi! Whew, week flew!
Shopping mostly done, picked up a pumpkin whip in a can & the cones, yay! Will get freshest part Wed just before. Or Tues.
How's yours going?
So glad your back is mostly good! Just hauled in the bags and thought of you! want to be able to lift, reach, bend & all thst. Trying to preserve that... ;)

No Kidding the week just whipped right by!!
Going to get my shopping done today. Letting the produce section inspire my sides. Still not sure how many people for dinner, lol, do totally winging this one.
Back is doing great. Even carried some Costco items Wednesday. Going to try to stretch and work on flexibility daily to keep it good.
Saw a new doctor this week and do glad I made tge switch. He's really working to manage a chronic issue that popped this summer in a really positive and supportive way. Looking forward to improving health coming up!
How's everything going with you?

Ok @yakkystuff I finally figured out our Thanksgiving menu. Turkey breast (only a few if us,) mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, Parker house rolls (I have an amazing recipe and it makes a ton, so these will be repurposed all weekend,) beet salad with ricotta and micro greens and finally roasted Brussel sprouts. So, I have never been a fan of Brussel sprouts but hubby lives them. I found a great looking recipe, bought some fresh and going to give it a try. And the turkey breast was buy one get one free so I have one in our freezer ready for another day.
Also, come December I am going to start another thread on here to see if anyone else may pop in.
Hope you are well.

Hi hi! Crazy busy! Hwy traffic gobstopped both ways as far as eye can see - we abandoned to try backroads, and turned the wrong way, and ended up 30 min later full circle, lol. I am NOT hitting black Fri traffic. Argh… ;)
Menu sounds yummy. We shopped for fresh today, and Hubby brought a tall stalk of brussels when we shopped - said they were "fresh" haha, so we're having those too, LoL
Looking forward to Dec thread.
Happy Thanksgiving You, and yours :))

That traffic sounds horrible. I wouldn't go back out either. We are getting a bit of snow and high winds, so happy to be hunkeref down for the weekend.
How was your Thanksgiving? A good one, I hope. Lots of leftovers here, which I am happy with.
Hopefully we'll get some of the other folks to chime in next month. How us that only a few days away?

Thanksgiving was fun, tuckered tho, so glad to be home today. Yours sounds lovely, and I saw big storms/great lake snow effect happening, are you ok? All I can think is brrrrrrrr! LoL
(on local news, 7 mile line to factory outlet stores, crazy, huh? Ya could NOT pay me enough to do that! Time & sanity worth way more ;)

It is cold and Lake Michigan is rocking! Only about an inch of snow. But we are supposed to get 4 to 8 inches later tonight into tomorrow. We will see how it ends up.
That is a crazy back up!!! I avoid shopping this weekend as if my life depends on it. I'll head to some local shops next weekend, maybe. With no kids and our family pretty spread out, Christmas is pretty chill now. I prefer that to some of the crazy years we had when we were first married.
Hope you are rested from Thanksgiving
