Thanks for thinking of starting this group. It is just what we all seem to need. Aging sucks and now we can lament and support each other as we go forward in the process. It helps to know we are not alone or unusual regarding the problems loosing weight and maintaining healthy living. This is a great start......thanks0

It is so awesome to find women in my age range to share the triumphs and woes. I work with lots of young, active people who just can eat ANYTHING and be slim....oh the envy! :sad:0

Thank you for starting this group! I just started MFP and was getting a bit discouraged by the 20-something girls who are 100 lbs and dieting!! Arrgh! I just turned 43 last month and have struggled with my weight for the past 10 years. I lost close to 30lbs two years ago before a vacation to Europe and felt great, but have put it right back on again after starting medication for panic disorder.
It's much harder to lose the weight now that I'm in my 40's, but I'm determined to take a healthy approach to food and exercise and make a change for life.0 -
Hi there. Just joined MFP a few days ago. I work out 6 times a week most weeks, eat around 1500-1700 calories a day, have about 30 lbs to lose (goal is 150 lbs), am 5'9" and need to do it all by Halloween! Have a great costume to wear! I am 41 and have been overweight all my life it seems. Have 3 busy kids and I seem to live in my car. I love hearing all these motivating stories. Baby steps is so true! I've set out a final goal (30 lbs) but have broken it down into monthly goals, much more attainable. Have been working out forever, so it is a mystery why I can't lose the weight. Hoping that I will be able to do it for good this time! Keep up the good work everyone!!!
Sounds like we're pretty much in the same place. I'm 42, 5'9, and would also like to get to 150 (currently at 176). Also try to eat around 1500-1600 and workout 6 days/week. I LOVE the idea of setting monthly goals!! It seems so much moe manageable that way!

I know what you mean! This very skinny coworker of mine came by me today and said "oh my god. I ate so much at lunch. I am so fat I am going to die." All the while I was thinking..."My goodness! You're the size of my leg!"
You can reach your goals! Never give up!0 -
Hi I am new to the group. I have been using the program for a couple of weeks now and I think it is very helpful. I quite smoking on 11-11-11 and have been gaining weight steadly. It started before I quite so I don't think it is totally due to that. I have type 2 diabetes, fibromyalgia and thyroid issues so am dealing with lots of issues. Any suggestions or experiences you have to share would be great. I look forward to getting healthier with you and lighter please God!0

I love this group because I am not 20, don't have the energy, the ability to do all the big calorie burning workout they do,I can't be what a 20 or even 30 year old can be. I have many health issues,I am 59, anf I need people who understand the struggle I am going thru. I hope we can help each other with these issues and give each other support. Red0

Hi, I am new too, I know lots of women are struggling, but it is comforting to read about actual women working on it. The support is helping. I am trying to work out every day, and making it count. I know sweat is key, and intensity. That's where I falter. It is so hard to "take it up a notch" ! I get on the scale tomorrow.
To Jackie, I don't have any idea how much 2 stone is either!0 -
Keep at it! I know life in the car. You are right to break it down it into monthly goals - more achievements then. Being an emotional eater, I am working on giving myself non-food treats - manis or pedis mostly. It loves my midsection more that cookie dough batter.0

I hope everyone had a good weekend. We didn't celebrate the Super Bowl this year, so that made it easy. Tomorrow is a new day, so if you did fall off the wagon, dust it off and start fresh tomorrow. You can do it. Red0

It was difficult keeping to my food plan this weekend due to being out shopping, taking the kids to the zoo and eating out. And I am terrified to get back on the scale again. I feel like I have lost nothing for the last five days.0

Hi Everyone! I'm new to MFP. I'm 40, and have set my first goal as losing 30lbs. I'm very excited to find so much motivation and support. I want this to be the last time i lose these pounds!0

I need to loose 14lbs

Hi, so happy that I found this group. I just turned 45 last week. I've found that with every attempt losing weight gets harder for me. I'm determined to be successful this time and I'm not going to let little bumps in the road get me down. Please feel free to add me as a friend. I can use any additional support I can get and I will give you the same.

Aphreal,I love "perky little tarts"!!!! Good name for them! Exactly how I feel.I am 59, bad heart,Atrilfibulation,Fibromyalgia, I can't even begin to try to do what these young girls do, so I really try to not accept requests from anyone younger than 40, but ,to my amazement, I can't believe or understand how many requests I get from very young girls!!!!!!WHY??hahaha0

Hey Red! I know why you get so many requests from the youngters... you can always find the positive in every situation, trying to be healthy is a hard journey and having you on the team is added power. Hope things are getting better with you and family (HUGS)
Aphreal, I love "perky little tarts" too! LOL I'm 43 and I understand that you have to work with what you have... aching knees, ankles and back... so my Zumba days are over LOL but the battle can still be won.
Have a wonderful day everyone :drinker:0 -
You are too sweet,Tmrice, I really appreciate that. I have been here for almost a year, and am so discouraged with only a 26lb. loss. Well, actually it was 33, but, that didn't last. Whoever coined the phrase"GOLDEN YEARS", can kiss my golden old butt, cause I am finding no gold. I will lose 10lbs by St. Pat's Day, or die trying!!!!!!!!0

Holy moly I tried zumba. There were women 3x my size in there kicked butt and taking names.... but they were considerably younger than I am. Workouts are not one size fits all. Moderate treadmill or Elliptical will get my heart rate in the 160s I say that is pretty cardio if I say so myself.
I know the fibro is prob the hardest to deal with Red, I am sorry you are suffering that. The one thing that really got my workout is my pelvic reconstruction last year. I am on a lifetime 30lb weight restriction. Before that I lifted for strength and now I just don't even want to. The surgery made any ab work difficult too, even now, almost a year later. But what can ya do! Work with what ya got0 -
Hi everyone!
I'm 46 and having the same issues as every one else.
I, too, LOVE the "perky little tarts" saying.. brilliant.
I'm agreeing with throwing the scale AND kicking the Dr.
I also like the stone vs pound idea!
OH AND I LOVE WINE!
Sounds like a great group of women to be in.
I used to be able to gain a little hibernation weight in the Winter and lose it in the Summer... well, I hit 40 and gained it in the Winter and gained some more come Summer. I've pretty much done that ever since. Then I quit smoking and gained even more. Seemed like it happened over night but it sure doesn't come off overnight! WTH?
I have been able( thru MFP) to get down 25 and then of course I put more back on. It's never ending isn't it?
Good luck to everyone and it's nice to know we're in the same boat0 -
It's so hard not to get discouraged, but you really can't let it happen, you have to keep going with whatever you can, even if it's 3 to 5 small walks a day, which is sometimes all I can do. I had a 20-something MFP friend tell me my walks weren;t really working out and I needed to step it up!!!!! I hope she's well, cause I deleted her size 4 self!!!lol I have Fibro, bad heart and I'm 59, I can't do 2 hours at the gym everyday, that's just a given and I know it. Do what you can,it's better than nothing at all.Aphreal, beautiful picture. Take care.0
