This is my first attempt at a group so bear with me.

I just completed Week3 of c25k. My gfs are saying my thighs and legs are getting very cut(defined). I am at the point where I can run 10mins nonstop. Ice lost 11lbs so far.0

Thanks for starting this group. I look forward to my 2nd attempt now that I have great footwear.
For those of you not familiar with C25K it stands for Couch to 5k and is a 9 week running program designed to get just about anyone from the couch to running 5 kilometers or 30 minutes. There are both Android & iPhone apps as well as pod casts.
Each week slowly builds on the previous to take you from a non-runner to being able to run a 5K in 30 min.
My best advise (which I know Pete will second) is to make sure you have a good pair of shoes that are proper for your specific gait. No one enjoys shine splints. Good luck everyone. Lets get our bodies prepped in these next few weeks.0 -
Thanks for starting this group Pete! I've done the C25K once before -I completed it on March 12... but not at a speed I like. I want a do-over! I ran it on the treadmill at 4.5 mph. I want to run it again, on the treadmill again but at 5mph this time. I started a couple of weeks ago, but lost momentum. I'm looking forward to running with all of you!0

Hello Everyone I am in. This is going to sound weird but I have completed 1 full marathon and 13 half marathons as a run walker. Which means I run a little bit till my mind messes with me and tells me to walk even though I am not tired then we repeat the ycle till we reach the finish line. Well I want to change that and become a real runner and be able to run a whole half some day and even a whole full with a few walk breaks if needed. I work alot of overtime and am a roating shoft worker so this really messes up my training plans. This group will really help change that. Lets do this together and keep each other motivated0

Thanks for starting this group Pete! I have never been a runner but had in the back of my mind that I'd love to run a 5K someday. I started c25k about a year ago, but stopped after the third week - life just got too hectic!! A runner friend recently reminded me about c25k and that was the spark I needed to give my exercise program a little more variety. I am on my 2nd week of c25k, and things are going great! Looking forward to hearing how the group is doing so that we can offer inspiration, support and encouragement to each other. I'll start looking for local 5K's to consider! Good luck to everyone!!0

I've had great success with C25K in the past. Now it's time to lose the baby weight (I have an 8 month old). I'm new to myfitnesspal.com, and I am using it with a FitBit. Thanks for starting this group. Today is week 2 day 1 for me, but I'll just use the next three weeks as prep and start officially on 4/29.

Thank you, Pete! This is the motivation/inspiration that I've needed to get my fitness life back on track!
I ran some 5k races and even a 10-mile race some years ago when I was "preparing" to turn 40. Wow! I turned 40 at my goal weight and was in awesome physical condition, and hit the beaches of Dominican Republic for my milestone birthday celebration. However, I didn't appreciate the hard prep work that took 3+ years, nor how great I felt at the time, and eventually fell back into old/bad habits that have me dreading turning 45 this summer.
I'm engaged to a wonderful man and can't wait to feel good about myself once again. Time to start some healthy lifestyle changes that will last a lifetime.

This was the confirmation I need to start the C2 5K this month. I was researching it as I work towards the goal of eventually completing the Marines Corp Marathon in October 2013. This group removes the excuse not to make the first step. Thanks Pete!0

Hi Everyone,
I would love to suceed at the C25K program. I actually made it to week 6, 3 weeks ago and then a 3 week vacation destroy a lot of momentum so much so that I feel like I'm back at week 1. So April 29 sounds like at great get serious about C25K date. A date with all of you. And since it's practically summer here and the snow is receding, this time I'm doing it outside. With a hat ofcourse so no on will know its me out there. lol. I'm 33, married, no kiddies yet. Oh and about 208lbs I think. With a goal of 160 on Jan 1st.

This sounds great! I have been wanting to try this, I have the app on my phone just need to get started. Hoping to get my husband to do this with me. Definitely need to get good shoes before I start. Thanks for the inspiration!0

This works well for me. I am planning to start this week but pretty sure I will need to do some weeks more than once so will prob finish after those of you who start at the end of April. I have never been a runner - never wanted to - but for some reason I have had it in my mind now that I want to learn how to run this year. Let's see how it goes! Happy for people to join me as a friend to keep the motivation going.0

Good morning everyone. This is my first group on fitnesspal. I tried this program once before and in week 6 had a serious pull of a calf muscle. I have never really been a runner, but lately have been wanting to run a 5K. I have some knee problems so we are going to see how it goes. Looking forward to giving this a try and to the support system. May even try to get my son to do this with me.0

@cds2001- I do the same thing. I usually do each week twice so I'm not pushing myself too hard. I don't want to risk an injury and have to start all over. I was doing this last year and it was working great for me.0

I did week5Day1 today.
I have been spending two weeks on each week. It gives me the time to focus on form and then clean up to get to a 6.0 speed through the entire run. It's slower than I would like, BUT, it allows me to focus on form, increase speed and limit potential injuries.
I will be on here for 2 weeks so anyone looking to get support-add me!

My first question is: What do I do? Well, other than get a good pair of runnig shoes (check) and run (haven't made it to run, yet...walk- check).
I saw where someone posted something about apps and such. I have taken myself off the grid. I got rid of my television, internet (accessible here at work) and telephone. Trying to get my life in order and found these were my biggest stumbling blocks.
Any suggestions for a modern day "hippie chick" who has looked in the mirror and suddenly realized she is not just out of shape but fat and so totally unmotivated up to this point.0 -

Before April 29th I will start a new thread for 'Week 1', and list out the instructions for that week. If you don't have access to the C25k app, then a stop watch could work, or any watch will do.. C25k is basically a series of walking / running That moves progressively towards more running than walking..

Thank you and thank you for starting this challenge. I started running about this time last April. I quit in August. I was up to 2.5 miles at that point in time...I kick myself repeatedly for stopping. Can't seem to find the motivation to get back to it, though it was something I grew to enjoy immensely and looked forward to my nightly runs. Maybe this will get me back where I need to be.0

I am in! I actually did day 1 already and have realized that I will have to do week 1 (and probably week 2) a few times, so maybe I can keep up with you all when you start. I have never been a runner but have wanted to do something for quite a while. I have quite a bit to lose so that really makes me have a lot of doubts. I am going to give this my all even if it takes me longer than most.0

Janet, don't quit...When I started running I was a size 14 and I HATED running. After a couple of weeks, I was loving the run though I would still look for excuses every night to not go for my run. I got down to an 11 from April to August last year, then I quit. I started working out and eating right again in January of this year. I have only dropped one size in the last 3 plus months. It is now coming off slower and I have to work harder and have changed up my aerobic routines with some free weight workouts and am finally down to a 10 and my "jelly roll" (as my sweet little 9 year-old niece calls it) is laying a little flatter these days and doesn't lap quite so far over the waist band of my favorite jeans! I am hoping this challenge will get me back to loving the run. But getting started AGAIN was harder than ever starting in the first place. I know you hear this all the time, but slow is better if you do have a lot to lose, it gives your skin time to regain the elasticity and you won't have to fight sagging skin and weight loss at the same time!!!0

Thanks. I only wish I was a size 14. I have more to lose than that. I read a lot on these boards and slowed my jog way down and was able to complete day 2 without stopping. There is hope for me. I don't plan to quit but I may be just on the 16 week program0

14 will come, as will 11 and 10. It may be slow and if you are like me in the least, you may get disgusted seeing people's progress that are doing the same or less than you and it seems they are losing pounds and pounds in just a few days...THAT is one of my biggest obstacles. I have been working out like an insane person and, as I said, this year, I have only lost a little and only went down one size. And guess what I do when I get digusted with stuff....yep, I eat like a crazed person. I am just now :blushing: :sad: coming out of a three week funk where the people in McDonalds drive-thru now know me by sight. My second obstancle: I have a boss that is EXTREMELY thin and very vocal about people that are overweight in even the least bit (a size 8 is fat to her) and sometimes her daily comments (her favorite since I have been losing weight is "So how much have you lost? I can't tell you have lost anything" :huh: But I just smile and say "God Bless her" in my mind I know she should be the last person to affect me, but after months of this, it does get to me and I finally succumb and eat like a madman. Then I put on my jeans that I have been able to get on lately and they don't button....I get mad at myself and get back to it. But, these ARE MY obstacles and I have to overcome them and where there are obstacles, there is the lack of willpower- which I need to work through, also.
As far as the running, I am like you, I found if I slow it down and keep it realistic I can do the workout as defined. I do tend to get a little ahead of myself sometimes and think I should be able to do more but then I find it doesn't help, it just makes it worse, so I slow it back down, find my cadence and I seem to run ("run" being used loosely, here) smoother and it seems to come more naturally.0
