Cook with it.
I keep meaning to pick some up, but I forget. It tastes sort of sweet so it is a good replacement for anything you would have used butter for. ANd tasty to sautee veggies.
That's easier than trying to use it as a supplement.0 -
I don't really cook anything but my tortillas, guess I could try that.
I ate 1 tsp. tonight, but it was making me ill, so I had to eat a rice cake to calm it down...:blushing: Guess I'll put it on top of one next time. I haven't used any oils for ages, so was just planning on using it like a supplement, but that's not going to work,. LOL.
Anyway, I'd like to know how much I need to add to my diet to get the benefits. :drinker:0 -
^bump^
I started using it one week ago tomorrow, but I am a bit 'blind" with how much I should be using, too. I read that one person took 1 T 3x per day, but that much freaked me out at 120 calories per T! So I just try to cook with it or eat between 1t and 1T at most meals. I can't imagine eating it plain.0 -
Thanks,
I also read that you have to ease into it... so will probably stick to 1 T. a day. But I know its good to have healthy oil in your diet. :-)
Might be just the thing to kick off this plateau!0 -
I use 3 T. for my thyroid. I use it throughout the day in my foods, whether I cook with it or add it to my coffee.0
-
Does it taste good in coffee? How much at a time in coffee? How's your weight-loss going with this addition?0
-
Debbylee22 - It doesn't add any flavor to the coffee but it does bringing out the flavors of the coffee, milk any other additions you make to your coffee and gives it the feel of having a heavy cream in it. I usually add about a Tablespoon. And, the plus is that I was finally able to start loosing weight once I started using it. I make sure I count the coconut oil in my food log, so I keep my calories in check. Hope this helps. I've also sent you a friend request.0
-
Thanks hs (name?).
I will try it. That is one thing I am hesitating about going to a natural dr... afraid she might not want me to use my instant coffee, sweetener, & non-fat vanilla creamer. It seems every time I look up symptoms they say quit drinking coffee... I've done it a couple of times & I just can't wake up, even after weeks!
I do think I'm starting to feel better, so will keep adding these new foods. Yesterday added kelp drops & coconut oil... last week added selinium & Oil of primrose supplements.
Oh my, remembering is going to be the biggest problem! :ohwell:
Thanks for your "friendship"
"Together we're better"0 -
Be careful with kelp drops -- if you aren't iodine deficient it could be a bad thing -- tell your Naturopath. Coconut oil is good in almost anything -- it's about 60 calories a tablespoon - so log it!!0
-
Thanks, my salt intake is extremely low, so if anyone is low in iodine, its me I am always under 30% of my daily requirement for salt. I will definitely keep watch to see if it makes things worse. Going very gradually into a small dose.
I fried my tortilla in the coconut oil... yuk. I had a burning throat from the grease. I'll have to figure out a way to have it. If you melt it down & mix it with nonfat salad dressing, will it stay mixed? Or go back to hard again? I'm just not used to eating any fat, except a bit of peanut butter now & then.
I also bought some Quinoa also, but it looks pretty hard to use. Have to rinse it? Do you do that in a sieve? I was hoping to just add water & protein powder to eat with my oats (that I eat raw). Was that supposed to be good for Thyroid too?
Sorry, I ask so many questions!
On a positive note, my husband just hooked up my central vac system & it works like a dream! :flowerforyou:0 -
my husband cooks his eaggs in it each day, then he puts coconut milk in his oatmeal, and adds coffe mate original in the little cups to his coffee.. all have the coconut oil in them. He weighed 204 when he started doing this and is now in the low 180's without any other changes. Cocnut oil helps to remove belly fat. I really need to add more to my diet.0
-
That's cool! I guess that's the regular kind of coffeemate? I use the non-fat kind now, guess I can switch! Although I don't want any sugar in it.
We can all use to get rid of belly-fat! Bring on the coconut!
I melted it on my meat before mixing the meat in my salad, but used half a tsp. Still felt the burning in the back of my throat, but not as bad.
Feels like its going to work like my prunes too! (another plus).0 -
I'm going to have to pick some of this up. I make a protein smoothie every morning so I could just add it to that, I'd imagine.
Thanks for posting this!0 -
My Coconut oil is quite "hard" ... I was expecting it to be like oil. Is that normal? Are they all like that?0

Hi Debby,
I tried the coconut oil. It all seems to be solid. I can't take the oil. I tried the capsules I got at Whole Foods. I thought that would be easier as I really don't care for the feeling of oil in my mouth. The capsules made me sick to my stomach. I took one a day at 36 calories to start but didn't get any further with them. I do use the solid coconut oil on my skin because it makes my skin really soft. I think it may be absorbed through the skin. Not sure how that goes.
I am doing the calories as you said you were doing and so far I can see and feel the weight coming off. I only post whole pounds so it doesn't show up very fast on my wall. But something is working.
I stopped taking Armour because I got hyper on 1 grain. I even went to 1/2 grain and was still hyper. So back to Levoxyl .075mcg. per day. Messing around with all this is really playing havoc with how I am feeling. So for now no experiments until my system settles down. Except the calorie cycling.
Sure would be nice if it would all be so simple. Oh well, We will all get it sorted out someday. Hopefully with a Doctor that has the knowledge to help us. They are out there somewhere.
Take care everyone, keep healthy the best you can.

Edit: BTW, the new picture of you is very nice.0 -
Thanks Ginny,
That answers my worries. I was afraid I bought the wrong thing. Today I decreased to 1/4 tsp. to fry my tortilla & it wasn't offensive. So I think I will stick to that for a while. Its still more then I was getting.
I'm happy for you, that the rotation is working. I did Physique Transformation diet (a body-builder's diet) for a few years. It worked really great for increasing my metabolism & losing weight. Because I have been a professional dieter for so many years, that I actually gained weight on less then 1000 calories a day... I said enough of that! It helped. Also taught me how to eat clean & realize where all the sugar was hiding in my foods (yogurt especially)! So, that's basically the diet I follow now. I'm not really able to alternate too much lately, will have to get back to that too.
I took communion today, and only ate a tiny corner of the cracker, for fear of the wheat... my grand-daughter was happy to get the rest. :-)
I'm feeling like I am losing wt. too, but not seeing the drop on the scale like I'd like... ah patience!
(thanks re: photo... I took it this week, other one was old). Have to be honest about the aging, I guess!0 -
Hi Debby,
I'm not sure if you saw my post about using coconut oil for weightloss but I've used it now for about 3-4weeks and I've never felt better. I have Cashew coconut butter, chocolate coconut butter, cacao/cashew coconut butter and vanilla coconut butter to put on my bagels or toast in the morning. MUCH more palatable than straight coconut oil although if you use the raw organic coconut oil in ALL cooking methods of frying in particular, (I'm about to explore the baking) you will definitely see results. I recently lost 6.39lbs in a week along with about 4.5inches off my waist in the same time. So yes IT DOES WORK. I use about 3-4tbsp a day Including the flavoured AND the cooking stuff. I also use it on my skin.
You can put a tsp of the cashew flavoured coconut butter in a medjool date for a sweet treat, mind you try stopping at just one!!! I get these from this website.

About stopping your instant coffee (apart from the withdrawal factor) I use to be the same until I almost had a heart attack through undiagnosed Hypothyroidism, I switched to Symingtons Dandelion Tea. Not only does it LOOK like coffee but It gives you the feeling of drinking coffee flavourwise without the caffeine hit. The creamer might be a bit harder but then the sweetener you can use Xylitol instead of others that have the bitter aftertaste. Xylitol is made from either Birch or Corn so is natural and has huge health benefitsand is much nicer tasting. So does the dandelion tea with liver support.
Hope this helps!0 -
Actually Debby, the new one doesn't make you look older. I like the hair style and it makes you look younger than the previous one. :drinker: I'm glad the coconut oil is working for you. We're all so different. Take care and have a healthy week.

Hi,
I tried to go on the cocopure sight and there was a notification that the Domain is for sale and to make a bid.????0 -
Thanks Ginny! I like your new picture too. I just did a search on the benefits of v. coconut oil. Wow! Even used for deodorant?! I succeeded in 1 whole tsp. today, but I haven't tried mixing with my coffee yet... still think of that burning in the back of my throat... It is recommended to take it slow & get up to 3-4 TBS a day. I wonder if it does absorb... maybe put it on your thyroid gland! I saw that it said it is good for firming the skin under chin & eyes... :blushing:
Great info wisewoman. I'm so happy for you, that its working so well & you're losing weight! Makes me hopeful to get these last lbs. off... slowed down to 2 lbs. a month since I came down with hypothyroidism.
Funny that we are just hearing about this miracle cure now... and... I guess the Hawaiians don't all eat coconut & use the oil these days.0 -

Hi Ginny,
I just went to the cocopure website and it's still operating. Did you type in the au at the end? Might've tried to take you to an Amercian website instead of Australian which I don't think exists.
I think they ship from the UK as well. Curious to see if it works for you again!
Debby, if you can't get these products shipped, I made my own version of the chocolate one by filling a small jar with coconut oil, adding a heaped tbsp of raw cacao powder and about 1.5-2tbsp of raw agave syrup. Microwave it for about 10-20seconds and stir then let set. stirring occasionally. Add some cinnamon and honey and spread it on toast if you eat toast or just try it on it's own with the cinnamon and honey! I know a lot of people frown upon the agave for being high fructose but as you can see it hasn't affected my weightloss.0 -
Good morning Wisewoman
You're right, I didn't put in the au. Thanks for the info. I will try the different ones and see if I enjoy them better than just the plain coconut oil.

I hope you do! I'm almost addicted to mine! Don't forget to leave some stock for me!!!!LOL0 -
Well, I did lose a full pound this week. That's an improvement - since adding Coconut oil.
Have you others had any more weight loss, after the initial drop of wt. when you first started? Also, does it help your Thyroid issues?
I'm curious, as I will have to buy another jar next week to continue this, but I'm not sure it really is worth it. What do you think?0 -
So for those of you using the coconut oil, how do you adjust your fat intake otherwise? Or do you not adjust it, knowing you will be over for the day? When I use the coconut oil it blows my fat allowance! I have to use little bits anyway, b/c it upsets my stomach to do a full tablespoon at a time, but even just taking in a tablespoon through the day I go way over on fat. And I am very much a "whole foods" eater, very little fat in most of my diet. Also, is just a tablespoon spread through the day going to give me the health benefits or do I need to eat more of it?0
-
Hi all,
Debby, I tried it in coffee and it made me gag! I think spreading it on bread or ricecakes is so much more user friendly. And as I said if you make up a cocoa oriented mix with a little of your fave sweetener you can make them into candy drops you can put in the freezer too, just use your ice cube tray. Also put some shredded coconut in it to make it interesting. Or a nut??? Anyway if you don't like cocoa use vanilla bean or even ginger which would give it a nice metabolism kick!
You could just snack on one or two of those a day and get more than you're getting now.
I've read you need at least 3-4tbsp a day to notice any difference.
As for adjusting fat levels, I don't. Because I know I'm getting good fats, not bad ones, I'm not concerned. I must admit when I first started I stacked on a few kilos with it because my body was so used to bad fats it grabbed hold of them!!! But, now I've been using it for a little while, I'm losing size quicker than I'm losing lbs! So I can't complain. My clothes are fitting much better than they ever have before but the scales are all over the place at the moment because I'm trying to weed ut gluten in my diet and dairy and I don't really know what I'm doing yet, but I'm trying to eat through leftover gluten products to start Gluten free. Sounds ridiculous I know, but we have noone to give them to because our friends are GF too and our family is over 4hrs away!
I'm purely going on size not weight till I get my diet right.
Hope that helps!0 -

Hi,
I eat 1 & 2/3 TBS @ day & come short of my fat intake goals. I think others go ahead & do the 3 TBS. & go over, but use it for their fat allotment. I need to do a search on this & find others that are using this. I lost 1 lb. in a week. Which is double what I have been losing. Will see how the second week goes. I had to start out slowly & build up to that. But its not so bad now.
Hopefully you will get more answers!0 -
OK, I found some good info here:
http://coconutoilessentials.com/learn-more-about-the-virgin-coconut-oil-weight-loss-diet/
Below is the really good info on how much we should be consuming: :drinker:
The virgin coconut oil diet is a lot different. Virgin coconut oil benefits your body nutritionally. At the same time, it requires energy to break down the fat that is found in coconut oil. As a result, you can actually take coconut oil and lose weight. For the average diet, it is recommended that you take about 1 tablespoon of coconut oil per day per 50 pounds that you weigh. Someone who weighs a hundred and 50 pounds, would take 3 tablespoons of coconut oil per day, and someone who weighs 200 pounds would take 4 tablespoons of coconut oil per day. By taking the coconut oil and cutting down on your carbohydrate intake, you will begin to lose weight, probably at the rate of one or 2 pounds per week. The nice thing about the coconut oil diet is that you get everything that you need nutritionally, you just aren’t hungry for all of the carbs. Coconut oil will satisfy your appetite. This means that you will not be hungry, but you will be able to lose weight because your body will not want to overeat.0 -
That's awesome Debby! Thanks!:flowerforyou:
Seems I need to up my intake of it again as I weigh 259lbs so according to that diet I need to take 5TBSP! Ok, I'll see
what I can do!0 -
Yeah,
It is helpful for that. I will need to work mine up to 2.5 TBS. I'd still like to hear more success stories! Guess it will have to be us. :laugh:0
