    What's your name? Abigail

    Where do you live? Florida

How long have you been riding? Since 2 1/2, with a gap between 17-29

What's your discipline? Compete in jumpers mostly, but also dressage...and always strive for great equitation!

What's your horse's name/breed (if applicable)? Levitation (or Levi for short) who is an OTTB. Also riding another TB, thinking or trading for as he has more jump and wants to win (like me).
  • Hiyaa, my name is Jess and I'm a 17 year old female living in the Essex, UK area.

I have literally been riding before I could walk and it has always been my dream to own my own horse/pony. Nearly 18 years on and my dream has come true thanks to my hard working mum.

I ride for fun and have taught myself to ride. I don't take it completely seriously, its like therapy for me. Whenever I'm down or stressed I pop up to the stables hop on my horse and go for a long ride. Horses are the best friends you could ever have, least they don't answer back or tell you to shut up when you're moaning ;) On the odd occasion I do compete in local fun show jumping competitions.

I have two horses, I have a 14.3hh Haflinger Gelding. Haflingers have always been my dream horses since I owned a Palomino Barbie horse when I was a bubba. And I recently have brought a 13.3hh Newforest Gelding who is a right little dude. Love them both to pieces and wouldn't change them for the world

Would love to have some other horsey friends on MFP, please don't hesitate to add me :) x

    Hi everyone! :)

    What's your name? Wendy
Where do you live? Nova Scotia, Canada
How long have you been riding? Since I was 9 (nearly 17 years)
What's your discipline? Mostly western pleasure, also reining.
What's your horse's name/breed (if applicable)? Teeka is my pony (hence the username!) She's a registered Pony of the Americas (Carteego Star is her reg. name. She's from Michigan, USA) I've had her since I was 10. She's 13.2hh and I'm only 5'1" so I never outgrew her much, though we don't show.
I had another, a POA/QH mare who died at the age of 10. She was always a sick pony who had allergies, heaves and such. She was some beautiful though.
Now keeping Teeka company is my friend's horse Dale (Ottago Cruisin) a 15.2hh sorrel Quarter Horse. She lent him to me three years ago when Jewel died and he feels like mine now. He's completely untrained and was supposed to be my project but I haven't had the time!

I'd love to see some horse people on my newsfeed so feel free to add me :)

Ridden down a closed lane of a freeway (I35 E) I have chased cattle and other critters from Oklahoma to South Texas. I challenge myself and my horse every time we go out...attempting to get him to jump a log is our newest challenge. I know he knows how to do it, he's just not sure of me. ;)

  • What's your name? Courtney

    Where do you live? Indiana

How long have you been riding? since I was a child, so about 25 years now I'd say

What's your discipline? currently riding hunter/jumpers, but have done a little of everything over the years. Started bareback on my aunt's farm, then got into western (pleasure mostly), did english in high school 4-H, then onto equitation and a bit of reining in college, was the stock seat team coach at Purdue for a few years. Since then boarding barns offering a nice lesson program seem to work best with my schedule.

What's your horse's name/breed (if applicable)? Keeping busy riding everyone else's horses at my current barn, a mix of warmbloods, thoroughbreds, and a few quarter horses.
  • I'm Lacy. I live in Northern Idaho and I have been riding since I was an infant (that makes it 27 years). My mother raised Arabian horses so I have never known a heartbeat without them. I ride and train horses in Dressage, Jumping, eventing, endurance (though have not had much time for conditioning lately), and other english and western events. Show jumping is my favorite sport to compete in, though Reining and cutting are close on its heels.

I own a 16 year old Appaloosa named Dreamer, a 13 year old QH gelding named Rocky, a 10 year old QH mare named sissy, Sissy's 8 month old filly Pippy and a co-own an 8 year old Friesian sporthorse named Gandolph with my mom.
  • Sue:

So - here's a question - has anyone ever thought about the calories burnt doing hays and waters, or mucking out. I had planned to ride today but Bumble has thrown a shoe so I just went up to see him and helped out a bit by doing the hays and waters for the 6 horses there plus made up the nets for tonight. I would have mucked out as well but John wasn't back with the bedding. I was curious to try and work out how many calories I burnt - not many I'm sure but its outside my daily activity so guess it would count for something!

I used to use a different website and it had calorie counts for feeding horses, cleaning barns etc. I entered them in my Activities, so I think that you can access them now :)

Hey Lacy -- wonder if your Appy is related to mine? I have a Dreamer relative too -- Dream Dee Jack -- a 3 year-old absolute doll. Love him to bits, and will be getting him into reining at some point. Right now, he's doing a bit of both English and Western pleasure, starting on some dressage work just to help him develop strength and flexibility, and we'll see where we go. He learns everything so fast.

It's too COLD to ride these days, though. Always below 0 F, and annoyingly windy. Hoping for a break!

How long have you been riding? About 34 years (That makes me sound so old!!)

What's your discipline? Hmm not got time for much more than hacking at the moment although have booked in for some jumping training on Sunday - eeek Hoping to do a bit more this year (RC events, endurance ) as last year I was pregnant and the year before snapped my achillies so not much horse riding action!

What's your horse's name/breed (if applicable)? we have 5 at home - far too many!

Billy - Irish maxi cob - lovely chap very forward going - our No1 horse
Chloe - we think TB x Suffolk - lovely mare but havent had her long so still seeing if shes a keeper or not.
Tawnygold - Dun TB x Welsh sec D out of my lovely ex racer mare - she's only 18months
Jay - Gypsy cob - been for sale for the last year but no one wants him - very sweet and totally indestructable - I was doing 20 mile fun rides on him last summer. Think well end up keeping him.
Sparky - the kids Welsh section A
Fergie - my TB ex racer - sadly cant be ridden any longer so shes out on loan as a broodmare.

Also got 1 yo twins and a 4yo (luckily my DH is retired:-)

I have just started MFP again - hoping to loose 3.5 stone by the time Im 40 but a bit lacking in friends for encouragement so if anyone wants to add me please do. x
  • My name is Ali. I have been riding for 30 years with a few breaks along the way. I trained hunter jumper growing up on farms in the midwest with a show or two a year. Now i strictly trailride on my standardbred mare named Suzie in Massachusetts USA. I also work off a lot of my board mucking feeding and watering so i have to go check that link on calories burned right now!
So stoked to have found this site!
    Happy trails to all...
  • Hey! :)
    My name is Kelsey.
I currently live in Michigan. I've been riding for the last 11 years (I'm 18). I grew up riding Western and bareback, and then slowly worked my way into English riding. I've been trained mainly in Dressage and jumping...But I love it ALL. When I would show I would do everythinggg...Western, English, Jumping, Gaming, Trail Class...I'm not picky! I have one horse, an Arabian/Appaloosa mare named Callie. She's 29, but still full of spunk and she still does just about everything she used to. Sadly, I am currently away for college and she is staying with my dad. I am counting down the days til I get to see her again:) She was my first horse (it'll be 8 years in May!), and I love her dearly!

    Hi, my name is Tracey
I live in the lovely Warwickshire countryside of the UK
    Been riding forever
Used to jump until my horse was diagnosed with sidebone in both front legs. Up until September of last year we rode novice dressage, then my boy went lame and was eventually diagnosed with arthritus in all 4 legs... no more riding for us. The vet has given him about a year before I will have to make that awful decision.

His name is Humphrey and is a Clydesdale X Shire. He is 16yrs old and I have owned him nearly 9 years and he is my best friend. We have been through so much together, but for now he is happy and that is all that matters.

I also have a 20month old Irish Piebald Cob. I called him Blue because he has one blue eye... not very original but it suits him. I have owned him for 10months now and he is so sweet. I rescued him from a horrid man that was sending him to the meat man. All because he had a blue eye and nobody wanted him :(... he was in a very bad state, very skinny and very miserable and very very scared. He had obviously been badly mistreated... But that was then, now he is a happy, chunky, and very very lovely horse. He should make around 16hh.

We have been through a long journey, but when he sees me arrive at the yard he whinnies and bolts up to the gate... it makes it all worth while.

Humphrey and Blue get on great together and infact Blue has give Humph a new lease of life...they are always running around the field together, which I never thought I would see Humphy do again..

I hope I have them both for many years to come....

    Hi Everyone-My name is Sheila
I live outside of Houston, TX
I've been horse crazy since birth but only started riding again in 2007 when I got my first horse at the age of 40.
Right now I can't claim a discipline. I've taken lessons in English but rode Western when I was younger. I have an Aussie saddle now that I love. I've been in Respiratory Therapy school since the fall of 2010 so I've not done much riding but I graduate in August and want to get back into it.
My horse is a Quarter Horse-a 15 year old "Cow Horse" (Two Eyed Jack Line) His registered name is Sorting Alley Jack but we call him Sage or Big Red (he's 16 Hands)
I'm so excited to hear about everyones experience and can't wait to get to know everyone better.
  • They both sound lovely. Bless you for saving Blue and I hope that you have many more happy years with both of them.

  • HI Sally,

I am outside Blackpool, so also get to ride on the beach sometimes, isn't it brilliant! :o)

Unfortunately the rest of the hacking around us is pretty rubbish. Have you looked on the Endurance GB website, they organise longer rides (non-competitive ones) which I love to join when I can, unfortunately I don't have my own transport so can be limited at times. There is also bridleways.co.uk that has some suggestions on.

I used to be over on the edge of the yorkshire dales - Skipton way and there is amazing hacking over there so let me know if you'd travel that far and I can suggest a few ideas. Craven Country Ride you have to pay to do, but it is brilliant fun, they have open weekends where you get homemade snacks half way round - definitely worth the trip and there are some brilliant rides (free) around Bolton Abbey.

Hope you get out soon, it puts such a big smile on my face - always! :o)

    What's your horse's name/breed (if applicable)?

I'm lucky - I have Danny Boy a 15.1 connemara x Highland who is exmoor coloured. He's my 'back to horses' horse and I've had him for 6 years.. He's 20 now and an easier horse to do you couldnt get!

I also have Edward a big 16.3 Irish Draught x Irish Cob fleabitten grey (mostly unless he rolls) he was used by the local hunt until I got him in October. He's a it spooky, but a real gent. He also has a massive moustache!! He'll be 11 this year.

Mum has 3 horses too, Harry a 7 year old Oldenberg warmblood, Murphy a 7 year old thoroughbred and Gifford a 34 year old irish draught x cleveland bay who has a heart problem and arthritis. But try telling him that!!!

I'm also very lucky as she has some land, so by the winter we'll have all 5 together...

I'm a little late to the party, but figured I'd get in on it anyway!

My name is Meghan. I'm 27 and I live in metro Detroit.

I started riding when I was six, and stopped around age 20 due to my weight. I miss it every single day.

I've done huntseat, saddle seat, and dressage, but my passion was always hunters. I used to work with a lot of off-the-track Thoroughbreds, and they are my absolute favorite.

A good part of the reason I'm on this journey is so I can ride again. I'm not the same person without it!
