hello
I am a 51 year old woman who was diagnosed with a under active thyroid in '02 and put on thyroxin ... the excess weight I carried was lost over the next 18 months due to dieting and life was good
I gave up smoking in Feb of last year so when I gained 6lb I was not overly worried
but then one week i gained 8lb WTF began food diary and gained 6 lb the next week and cut down calories to starvation levels and
gained 5lb saw doc told to keep an honest food diary... did 300-472 calories a day over the next week
and a 7lb gain
next 4lb
next 9lb
next 6lb then the doc did a thyroid test because she could see how ill I had become and TSH was 10.9 (normal for me with medication is 0.3 - 1) thyroid antibodies were at a staggering 1297 so it was no wonder that I was gaining at the rate I was ...over the next couple of months the thyroxin was adjusted and the gaining has stopped so far I have managed to lose 3lb in the past 2 months
The pain I have been in since march has been indescribale, I have been refered to a nuerologist and am now awaiting results from a MRI brain and an SSEP (not a nice test that one) my mobility has been seriously affected and I have a constant burning in my legs. so my ability to exercise is a little hampered... I manage to work and walk alot in my job but when I get home I am exhausted so doing extra is not an option right now
I am just looking for support in my efforts to get my weight back down to what it was 18 months ago

Welcome :flowerforyou: bigjax !
My oh my, what a nightmare! I really feel for you. Its hard to imagine that your body could do that to you. Wow. Has the Dr. put you on higher meds?
Hope you find the info here & support to help you regain your health.0 -
Oh my you sound just like me I have been going through the same thing since Jan.Dr sent me to surgeon thinking it was my back and after having all the tests done that you are having plus mylogram CAT scan.Nothing showed up.Surgeon suggested pain management.I haven't done that because I have been on every site about thyroid I can find checking things out.Firmly believe we need to be our own avocate (sp).Check out stopthethyroidmadness.com very informative.
Went to Drs yesterday loaded with info .He heard me loud and clear.Did blood work, should know results by Friday. He is looking at neurapathy from thyroid.I have been up and down with the same pounds for last year or so.Staying with clean eating around 1200 caloires ,exercise when I can and still can gain 5 pounds over night.
Hope that we both get some answers.Don't give up0 -
Debbie levothyroxine was up to 250mg but the docs dropped it back down to 200 as blood woork was really off..
I was on 125 when I first got ill so stiill on a significantly higher does than before
am also being treated for B12 as I am unable to store it
ferretins fluctuate wildly
Checked out the site but it seems to be aimed at an American market... which causes instant problems here with my GP...
I have treid to show research like this before but unless I can show its an acredited study I will get no-where... this is not as negative as it sounds as there is alot of mumbo jumbo out there... They have been very supportive of my problems but its just taking a while to get me well
I am hoping that the MRI + SSEP will show something that will be helpful, (helpful not nasty)0 -
Ah... where are you? Europe? I'm in Canada.
I have added natural things that I found online... Virgin Coconut Oil, evening primrose oil, vitamin D, selenium. Along with a high protein, low carb/gluten free diet. And this week was taken off of my meds for hypo.
Hope you feel better soon!0 -

I live in the Uk
my diet has to be carb rich as I hypoglycemia (low blood sugars).. when I say carbs I do not mean high sugar products as they aggrivate the condition... I also have fibromyalgia which is a nasty painfull condition
as we say in this house I am rotting from the feet up...
cannot do a gluton free diet as glutton free products tend to be high in sugars..... I try to keep my diet low fat, high fibre...
I know when I get my weight down I will feel better and my conditions become more manageable0
