Okay so I stumbled upon this group today even though I've been on this site for over a year ... I'm slowly plodding along and am hoping to find like-minded individuals that can help push me and vice versa ...
Just to get the ball rolling ... My name is Bianca, I'm 30 and a lecturer/ graphic designer ... this rings the "sits behind her PC all day" alarm bells which is why I joined the gym earlier this year and have finally gone to a dietician and am now on the road to (hopeful) recovery with regards to always putting other things and people before me.
It started off very well but then I landed up very ill for 2 months and am now back on track ... so let us hear your stories (even if you are one of those hot, fit people that I dream to be) haha

I realised there *had* to be other South Africans on MFP since I found all these Woollies food already listed
My name is Sandra, I'm 39 and have two children (whom I blame for my bad eating habits and weight gain....) I need to lose about 25kg and in the 3 weeks I've been using MFP I lost 3.4kg already, so I'm stoked about that!
I also started with the Shape Magazine 12 weeks to 10km running programme again (an older version, don't really like their newest version) and so far so good; I'm halfway through week 2 already. I also do mostly office work and have started running at night after the kids have fallen asleep since I honestly don't have any other time to work out. My husband works in Brasil on the oil rigs so he's only at home half the time.
What kicked my butt into gear is we're headed to Italy in the beginning of August for a 3 week holiday and I really can't go looking like I did at the start! I'm hoping to get to an 'overweight' in stead of 'obese' BMI and I'm about 2kg away from that, so it's a quite attainable goal.0 -
Hi
Glad to see that there are other people from South Africa as well.
You can call me Zar and I'm a 23 year university old student.
Been chubby most of my life, got fat in high school. Started picking up weight in grade 10. Three years ago I started working out, ate healthy and lost over 15kg. I ran 5 and 10km races regularly, but then I got lazy and picked up double what I lost. I've been on MFP since March and lost 9kg. Last month I hit a plateau and gained 1kg, which I have now lost and hope to keep off.
Since I've been on MFP (I find it easier to stick to a programme than do my own thing) I've completed:
* Runners World 5km Programme (I stopped running for so long that I decided it would be best to start from the beginning again).
*Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred (Killer, but great results).
*Currently doing Shape Magazine10km, Just completed week 2. I did not know that there's a new and an old version so I'm presuming its the old version that I'm doing because I had it from emails a year or two back.
For other workouts I some times do Zumba, the stationary bike, pilates (via Blogilates on YT), some old work out DVDs and I recently started doing yoga.
I also used to be a vegetarian for a year and a half, and started eating meat about a month ago again.
I hoping more South Africans find this group, so here's some random keywords to show up in search results: Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria Johannesburg, Gauteng and Durban.0 -
Hey zarbabe glad to see we're both attempting the Shape Mag programme! We're at about the same in terms of progress into the programme! How about we keep each other motivated to stick to it?0

That's a great idea, I'll add you!0

Hi everyone
I am Tamaryn, a 31 year old wife & mother from Johannesburg, South Africa.
Keen to work in a team environment to stay on the straight & narrow, as it were. Always easier for me if I am rivalled, & have to be accountable.
Otherwise it all goes pear... literally & figuratively.0 -
Hi
I'm Rene. I'm 35 and I live in Pretoria. I've been registered on the site for ages, but I've used it so seldom, I feel like a newbie
I've found that the 'mindfulness' that comes as a result of noting what I've eaten on a daily basis is enough to help me make better choices - most of the time! However, I give up way too easily, so I'm looking for a bit of motivation. So far I haven't had great sucess convincing my friends to join the site, so now I'm hoping to make friends on the site.0 -
I've just come back from a 3 week holiday and by using MFP's iPhone app I only picked up 0.6kg! I am so motivated to keep going. I also started back on the running programme I stopped a month ago because I was sick.0

Hi guys, Dianie here. Decided it is now or never, got myself a good dietplan from a dietician, signed up for Healthy on the Go foodpacks, got a training plan and trainer and ready to go. Lost 3 kgs in the first 2 weeks, now to maintain the weight loss as I have another 17 to go. Wish me luck!0

Hey there
Where do you think I could find the old version of the 10k plan as I eneterd the Gunrun. Very little time left.0 -
I guess you're talking about the Shape Mag 12 weeks to 10km plan?
Here is the link I'm suing - it seems to be pretty much in line with what I had before

Hi,
I'm Mark. 24 year old guy who's just finished Uni and has moved to Jhb for work. I've always been very sporty but overweight.. University does that I guess. Anyway, I've just recovered from ligament reconstruction (op number 3, originally a rugby injury) on my knee and I've decided that for my knee's sake, and for my own sake I'm going to shed the kilos, take on young life the way its meant to be. I'm getting involved in as much as I can.. tennis, running, golf, lots of gym and am hoping if I am strict with myself on this fitness pal food diary and watch what I eat I'll hopefully lose this weight for good. I wanna be 15 kgs down by December, take St. Francis' beaches by tour de force.
I tend to struggle with consistency and will have 4 great weeks where I'll lose a lot and then I'll let social activities ruin all the hard work, so I'm hoping for a couple of months of consistency, and I've figured if I can't escape events and jols on the weekend then I'm going to eat really well and train hard during the weeks. Add me if you're in a similar position as me, can give advice, want some support or whatever.. Roll on Run Jozi!0 -

Obviously not suing but using :blushing:0 -
Hi Mark!
The only thing I can say is don't completely stop the socialising times - you'll end up resenting your effort to get healthier and fitter and eventually you might stop because of it. We recently went on a 3 week holiday to Italy and Swtizerland (think gelato, pasta and chocolate :drinker: and using MFP's mobile App I was able to maintain my weight and I think during that time I only gained about 1kg, which I think was great. Go out, and if you have a really sociable night out make up for it the next day by exercising or even exercise beforehand if you know you'll be going out.0 -
Hello,
My name is Louisa and I'm from a small town in Limpopo.
I've been on here since November 2011. So far I've lost nearly 12Kg and 2 pants sizes.
I love eating and cooking and that is why I need this site.
I hate cardio but I've found lifting heavy a good alternative. I also eat a lot. No lettuce leafs or rice cakes for me. I eat high protein, take protein shakes and eat 6 times a day.
Feel free to add me

Hi all! I'm currently living in London, but always homesick, and would jump at an opportunity to return to SA. Been on MFP for over three months, and lost 11kgs with 30 day Shred (though not over 30 days!!) and calories counting. Been sat on a horrible plateau (69kg) for a couple of weeks, and I know the advice out there is to up the calories (I'm currently 1200 a day), but it seems so counter intuitive that I don't dare. Anyone else been there? I'd appreciate your thoughts...
Add me!0 -
Hello everyone,
My name is Kim. I am a 50year old financial manager who is chained to a desk and only released to the sofa after hours.
I gave up smoking a few years ago and have just gained weight since then, I found MFP while looking desperately looking for inspriation.
Been on MFP since the 26th of July and I am quite happy with my progress. Sticking to a high protein, low carb eating plan.
What a thrill to find fellow "Souf Efricens"!!!!!
Always happy to make new friends.0 -
Hi
I joined MVP over a year ago but only discovered the community this weekend. I've taken up cycling and decided to start using MVP to track my progress. Have taken the bike out twice this weekend and though I have a long road ahead of me I'm quite excited about giving it a go. The large capital outlay will of course be a great motivater
I love the idea of having some accountability and hope to stay motivated.
Anyone who wants to add me feel free. I can use all the help I can get.0 -

Hi All
I am a 28 wife, mother of 1 and I work in IT. I have been on the site before and lost some weight (I lost some even prior to joining the site). I went from 88kgs to 81.3kgs. But I stopped I dont know why I just did. Stopped going to gym, stopped eating well. And I gained some of the weight back
I am now at 84.1kgs and that is not good. I have joined weigh-less with the hope that being weighed daily in a group setting would be motivation enough and I need the support. I will start going to gym again next week.
I have all sorts of work out dvds, Jillian Michaels, Zumba, Taebo but I just cant bring myself to work out. I need help!!0 -
Hello I'm 21 and currently an under-graduate student at Rhodes . Nice to see a SA group here!0

I am a 41 year old married dad from Cape Town. When I was 39 I weighed 118kgs and set a goal to be under 100kgs by the time I turned 40. Through Calorie Counting (at that stage I used calorie.count.com) and starting the Couch to 5K running programme, I manage to reach my goal. (On my birthday 3 Jan 2012, I was 98kgs.) I managed to lose another kilogram before I slowly started piling some back on over the past year. I kept up the running, but slacked in the eating department (which goes to prove, "you can't outrun a bad diet.") So, fortunately I stopped the rot when I had gone back up to 107kgs and am now re-dedicating myself to get back under 100kgs - and indeed aim for under 95kgs!
Would love the support and encouragement of everyone else on this site!
Good luck to all of you guys also - lets make 2013 the year when WE LOSE IT!0
