  • When I'm fitter and trying to increase my long run distances, I often take walk breaks as needed to help me to reach whatever number of kms I need to hit that day. I don't use a structure, I just walk for a minute when I feel I need it, then run again. Now I'm building back up from an injury I'm doing 10 mins jogging, 5…
  • I do the same thing or use Body Glide.
  • I'm a bit biased because I'm greedy and I like to eat (plus I was never very overweight so I won't pretend to be able to relate to how someone who has more excess weight to carry might want to get rid of it faster), so I always preferred a slower rate of loss and a bigger calorie goal, so 1300 for me would be very hard.…
  • I have a fitbit and definitely eat back the calories I burn from walking. I've had the summer off work and some days I've walked for 3 hours. That earns me some ice cream or a few slices of toast in the evening!
  • Yes, although the brand I use does not have a week of dummy pills, you just take a 7-day break between packs (if you choose). I always seem to be a pound lighter than usual the day before I start the new pill pack. This is after any bleeding and cramping has finished. It come straight back on about 2 days into the new…
  • I took doxycycline for two months and lost weight as it made me feel a wee bit nauseous all the time.
  • Lost 30lbs after starting BC and have maintained that, give or take a few pounds, for 6+ years now, having changed the type of pill I was on twice during that time as well. I do drop a pound or so during my week break, but that's not really worth worrying about. I'm currently trying to lose a few vanity pounds gained…
  • You may be healthy now in your early thirties, but an obese BMI increases the likelihood of encountering poor health later. You may find your weight never affects your health, but why take the chance if you can reduce it?
  • Oh, inevitably. How terrible. The fabric of society would crumble.
  • When I was a teenager and woman in her early 20s, I do not recall being emotionally scarred by the sight of an exposed chest or back belonging to a man over 35. I'm really not sure why this is something you find so inappropriate. Maybe men just get hot, and it's not necessarily a form of peacocking?
  • I'd prefer almost nobody run shirtless in all honesty, but I wouldn't find it an offensive sight, and I accept I don't get to make the rules. Mind you it's not often hot enough where I live for it to be necessary to run shirtless, but I've done a few races where I was sweltering and seriously considered pulling off my vest…
  • I set MFP to sedentary, wear a Fitbit and eat back any extra calories it gives me (and it lowers my goal if I don't move much at all). I also add in exercise like swimming, running etc., and as long as I tell my Fitbit when I started and finished the activity it doesn't double count. I reduce some of MFP's estimations…
  • I try to have very few days where I'm sedentary, but I still consider an hour or so of walking to be exercise, others may not. I try and do some kind of resistance training, usually a mix of bodyweights and kettlebells in a circuits style, at least twice a week, maybe 3. I've started running again 2 or 3 times but this is…
  • Same. Today I have mini chocolate dinosaur-shaped biscuits for my afternoon snack with a coffee (to make myself feel less like a child). Yesterday I had some caramel ice cream, and the day before I shared a cheesecake slice with a friend. I have a sweet tooth that can get the better of me if I don't placate it regularly. I…
  • The food you're describing in your post sounds delicious OP. I'm hungry now! When I wanted to gain a few pounds I kept my meals largely the same, except for little tweaks like using whole milk, adding cheese to pasta/potatoes, sprinking brazil nuts on cereal etc. That helped a bit, but I also added a calorific…
  • If it's any comfort, you and I sound very similar, and I can eat 2200 calories a day without putting on weight. You may see a little jump up in scale weight if you increase your intake, but don't worry about that as it's unlikely to be fat, it's your body replenishing itself and adjusting to no longer being in deficit +…

  • Some days I get to 800-1000 (like now, as I'm off work for the summer), but sometimes as little as 50! 200-400 is average.
  • I think it depends on your lookout. If I want to get better at something, I want people who are already better at it than me to tell me what they do and make it feel easy - if it's easy, I can do it too. My best friend, on the other hand, would want others to share their similar struggles and reassure her that it is hard…
  • I think to have a realistic chance of this happening you will need to adopt a run/walk strategy. Most training plans will include runs of different lengths, and wouldn't expect you to be running your current maximum distance three times a week. Without wanting to be too negative, I'm still nursing a knee problem obtained…
  • If by 'a few months' I assume you mean 3, and if I take the average of losing a pound per week from what you've said, that means you've lost 12lbs. That's nearly the weight of a bowling ball. How many pounds were you expecting to lose in this time? I think a lot of people have pretty unrealistic expectations about how fast…
  • As a non-muscular woman, BMI has been spot on for me. I sit happily at the lower end of the BMI range - about 19/20 is good for me. I could gain another 30-35lbs and still be considered a good weight. In my biased, personal experience, I have never met someone in real life who decried BMI as unrealistic or unattainable who…
  • My schedule is cushy compared to most, and even more now I'm off work for the summer. Usually, on a work day it's as follows: 5:45 wake up 6:00 exercise - either a walk, a run, a trip to the gym or a workout at home 7:00 get showered, dressed, fed and ready for work 7:50 drive to work 08:30 get into office, make coffee,…
  • I like Aldi. The fruit and veg is good quality and much cheaper than other local supermarkets (I live in South-West England). You can get big packs of chicken, beef and fish for a good price, and I like their chocolate and fruit & nut mixes. Only thing which puts me off is the lack of lactose/dairy free stuff, but I…

  • I notice this a few hours to a day after a long run when I've pushed myself to carry on for longer than normal. I thought it was all in my head!
  • The fastest I could ever run was about a 8.5min mile over 5K, and usually 9-9:30 min miles. I considered myself middle of the pack AT BEST then, and I have to laugh now I'm coming back from an injury and stuck at a 11-min-mile pace whilst my knee toughens back up :'( In all seriousness I love running. Doesn't matter what…
  • I totally ignore them and try not to jump even though it really startles me for a moment. Seems to wind up the vulgar-comment-shouters more if they get absolutely no response. I don't like it. Most of the time it's not complimentary, it's designed to make you jump/feel uncomfortable/make the passengers of the vehicle…
  • Sounds to me like you're doing it right: pre-planning your food so you're eating a balanced diet but keeping to your calorie goal, and then enjoying something in a small portion at the end of the day so you have something to keep you motivated about not making unwise choices in the daytime. Makes total sense to me.
  • If you're physically tired, I'd say take the day off. If you're half-heartedly lifting I'm guessing you'll not push yourself as much to complete your normal routine or be risking injury. I know next to nothing about lifting though!
