I'm 5'3". I use the GW x 12 calculation to arrive at 1640 cal/day, and I lose on that. This calculation assumes you exercise 5x/week. If you exercise less or not at all, your calculation would probably be closer to GW x 10 or 11. I'm going to assume everyone else already told you that eating 1000 cal/day is not adequate or…

Talk to your doctor. That could also be a sign of ovarian cancer and several other things not related to your colon.

I love tacos! I can and have eaten them every single day for months on end. They are such a perfect, easy, well-balanced meal!

I've been battling this all year. What has finally worked for me is the protocol outlined by Squat University. I'm sure you can Google it. It requires specific daily exercises over time. I tried ice, resting, anti-inflammatories and everything else, but it was just a vicious cycle. I feel like I'm finally getting at the…

I am so jealous of all of you with gyms inside. Mine is on the back patio. It's fine, but it's damn cold some mornings. Luckily we dont get much rain or snow.

Lol..I was telling my husband this morning that perhaps the 3rd piece of pie yesterday was excessive.

That is an impressive 1 day gain! I was up 3#. In years past, this would have kicked off a vicious cycle of over restricting, bingeing, and over exercising. I am so grateful to be in a much healthier place now, and am not even worried about it. One day does not make or break anything.

A trainer I follow recommends 3 plates (meals) and 2 snacks per day to lose weight without calorie counting. Each meal should consist mostly of protein and fruits/veggies, while each snack should be roughly fist-sized, depending on what it is. I can maintain my weight very easily by using this method and really just…

Eggs. Almost always eggs. Usually scrambled with some veggies, a piece of turkey sausage, and a tortilla. If I want something lighter, I'll have greek yogurt or cottage cheese and fruit.

Bret Contreras is known as the Glute Guy/Glute God for good reason. You can't go wrong with any of his programs.

I'd probably have a low cal dinner (egg white & spinach frittata, chic breast and a veg) and then splurge on a piece of cake for dessert. I get 1600/day, so 600 for dinner for me would be a lot!

You are correct. I habitually work out 5-6 days/week and dont skip, so I can set my daily calories assuming that to be the case. The 1-2 days/week I might not workout, and therefore eat basically at maintenance, do not stall my weight loss. If someone doesn't work out religiously, then fewer daily calories and adding more…

No. My daily calorie goal assumes I workout 4-5 times/week, so no need to add calories for exercise. However, if I do a high-intensity, long (90 minute+) workout, a race, or something equivalent, I will add a few hundred calories on that day to compensate.

It never occurred to me that someone would want to see mine. Why would they? It has never once occurred to me to look at someone else's diary.

I haven't returned to the gym yet, and my home gym is outdoors. On rainy or cold mornings, I like to do a YouTube workout-Taebo or Bollywood dance. I also really like tabata style workouts, and can always throw a circuit together and get a great workout!

This is a really great answer! In addition to this, eating the same thing for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or at least having some "go-to" meals always on hand, works wonders for me. It makes meal planning, shopping, cooking, and tracking so much easier and I dont mind eating the same things regularly as long as they are…

Tacos. Always and forever. Nick's birthday cake ice cream. Sugar free pudding. Cheddar pretzels.

I do 6 days/week because I love both speedskating and lifting, and that's the only way I can fit enough of both in to make me happy.

Hip thrusts. Glute bridges. Hip thrusts. Glute bridges. More hip thrusts. More glute bridges. There are endless varieties, and I incorporate one into every single workout I do. Definitely check out the Bret Contreras link above. He is known as The Glute Guy for a reason!

Congrats on your 100# loss! I think motivation is overrated. Sure, it's important when determining your "why" and in setting goals and committing to change. But it's discipline that gets the job done!

Deleted because zombie thread.

No effect as long as your calories are still in check. I dont even track fat or carbs. I focus on hitting my calorie and protein goals and let fat and carbs fall where they may. It hasn't hurt me yet or stalled progress at all.

On average, good trainers run $80-100/hour. I was able to get a great trainer for $40/hour by going with her when she branched off and opened her own gym, paying in advance and in cash, and letting her use me in her advertisements. I stopped using her when Covid hit and the gyms closed, and have been going it alone ever…

I've done this for years, as it makes meal planning and preparation, as well as calorie tracking and logging, so much easier. I dont mind eating the same thing for a while if it's nutritious and delicious!

Depending on the season, I lift 3-4 x/week and skate (inline speed) or bike 2-3 x/week.

I used Nia Shanks' Be A Beautiful Badass program for the first few years (hence the screen name). I think I paid $30 for the e-book and it had enough different programs to keep me busy for a few years. Money well spent! I also really like Strong Curves by Bret Contreras. I've heard great things about New Rules of Lifting…

If you like to lift heavy, and I do, the gym is the way to go. It's been very challenging and frustrating only having a total of 130# of weights to work with at home!
-
You all make me feel like a wimp! I'm in Southern AZ, have been working out at home outside since March, and am dreading coming winter. I'm not sure if I'll be comfortable returning to the gym by then, but dont want to invest in more home equipment until I know if I'm going to be able to brave the winter morning workouts.
-
I want one of these! I'm an inline speedskater and it would be so awesome to have one at home for training. At the Utah Olympic Oval and other training facilities, they have giant treadmills made specifically for inline skating. Dreams!

The book Brain Over Binge was extraordinarily helpful to me.
