  • I've lost over 90 pounds in about a year and kept it off almost 2 years. I've never had restrictions on any specific foods or macronutrients. The first 75 or so was just walking and counting calories. I did eventually start running and then lifting because I wanted to, not to lose weight.
  • Tell him runners look older because that's one of the main side effects of living longer.
  • I pick them up when they have the 18 pack on sale for $18 at Costco - then they're pretty cost effective. So far I've tried the vanilla, chocolate and banana and enjoyed them all. Caramel sounds yummy, hope Costco carries them sometime!
  • My sister-in-law just shared before/after pics of her 90 pound weight loss on FB. And a long message about how much she struggled the last two years, including daily workouts, often in pain. I was so proud of her, but sad, too. I lost 90 pounds over a year, and found it so much easier than I expected. Tracking calories…
  • I love my pressure cooker and use it all the time. Simple stuff like rice and boiled eggs to more complex soups, stews and braises. And the BEST mac & cheese in the time it takes to make a box of Kraft! For me, pressure cooker makes better tasting food than the slow cooker and saves more time and dishes because I can brown…
  • Yay! I knew you could do it! I know it's silly to some, but that 20 minute run was a turning point in my life. Losing weight was one thing, but running was something I couldn't even do before I was obese. When I did that 20 minute run, I knew I could do ANYTHING if I took my time and just kept trying!
  • I LOVE the Bolthouse dressings. Very creamy and fresh tasting and low in calories. Panera Light Poppyseed is great, too, and only 25 cals. My current obsession is berries, chicken, goat cheese and pecans on spinach with Panera Poppyseed dressing. Yum!
  • I've never heard of smoked Basmati until just this moment but now I desperately need it in my life...

  • I try to shop for smaller apples so I don't have half an apple sitting around, getting brown. Those huge ones can have over 200 calories! I generally end up eating berries for my fruit, just because I can portion easier.
  • It sucks. I know that feeling very well. But then I remind myself that if my biggest problem in life is too much food, then I'm much better off than a significant portion of the world.
  • This^^^^ For instance, if I made that particular sandwich fairly often, I would save it as a meal so I can add all the ingredients at once and adjust the amounts easily. Then next time I made the sandwich, I would add that meal to my diary, then I would build it right on the scale, taring to zero between each ingredient.…
  • I was worried about my last small vacation because I knew I'd be spending a lot of time sedentary in the car, and I'm used to well over an hour of activity a day. Turns out, when I don't move as much, I'm not as hungry. Who'd have thought? It was pretty easy to make smarter choices and eat smaller portions when the…
  • Have you started using any new lotions or cosmetics on your face? Some sunscreens will make my face burn but only when I'm sweating. When my face is dry, they're fine.
  • You can try using xanthan or guar gums. They are used in gluten free baking to help replace the gluten that normally gives baked goods their structure. Or just use flour.
  • My routine has gradually evolved to the point where I now get up at 4am on weekdays. - 4:00 am: get up feed dogs, take them out, make coffee, have a small snack - 5:00 am: Lift weights in my basement + short run MTuThF, or Wed longer run outside (or on basement treadmill if I must) - 6:30 am: shower/dress - 7:00 am: get…
  • There's a thread in the recipe section for homemade Halo Top that is great! I made a big tub of Birthday Cake flavor that I actually like more than the real deal. The biggest problem is that I usually make a double batch, so I have to be careful to measure out my serving so I don't go too crazy :p

  • Yep. They work better for training than tracking. The calorie burn calculations with my chest hrm weren't that much different than without. But it worked well for my half marathon training when I did my runs based on heart rate zone.
  • One thing I did when I first started was remind myself that I can always have that particular food "later." I had this "get it while you can!" mentality that I carried with me from when I was a kids and my mom went on a no sweets kick. To the point if grandma gave me a little bag of candy to take home my mom would take it…
  • I got creative for my lunch today and mixed leftover rotisserie chicken with diced celery and apple, greek yogurt (has to be at least 2% fat) and sweet curry powder for seasoning. Stuffed it all in a Tumaro's wrap with some spinach. Turned out delicious!
  • LOL at the bike mod! My brother-in-law had the same epiphany. He was spending tons of money to lighten up his dragster by a few pounds to shave a few hundredth of a second off of his times. Then he realized he could take 50 pounds off the nut behind the steering wheel for free!
  • Chicken-apple-curry salad in a tumaro's wrap with a huge spinach/veggie salad.
  • I agree with the suggestion of playing with your macros to see what effect is has on your satiety. The only thing I would like to add is to also pay attention to how your exercise affects your appetite. I didn't realize how much running was increasing my appetite until I had to reduce my running for a few days due to…
  • Ooh! I didn't know you get extra meat instead of mozzarella! I know what I'm getting next time... Anyway, my vote is for Papa Murphy's Angus Steak Delite thin crust. I love how crispy it gets when you bake it at home. 220 cal/13g protein for 1/8 of a large. I can usually fit 2 slices and a big salad in my calories pretty…
  • How do you feel about English muffins? Thomas Light English muffins toast well, taste great and have great fiber/protein macros for 100 cal. I find them very filling and often have just a half for 50 cal.
  • Amazing! You look fabulous!
  • Wow! Amazing job! You are a HUGE inspiration! If I'm as strong you when I'm in my 50's I'll be thrilled! Better get cracking, only a few years away...
  • That is a great article. I have never been an exercise lover. So I used the "bundling" technique where you pair something you like with something you don't (Freakonomics has a great podcast on this). I started with the least objectionable activity I could think of - walking on my treadmill. And paired it was my biggest…
  • I lost weight. Hubby found it. He's trying a little, but I don't think he believes he can do it. I'll just wait until he's ready. He waited for me. Hopefully it's before his health problems get worse.
  • Old Navy and Victoria's Secret are my favorites. Both go on sale on a regular basis so watch for deals.
