  • My doctor told me 800 calories and 60 g of protein, but I feel like crap if I don't eat 1000 calories a day. In order to get that much in, I eat 5 to 6 small meals every day. My first doctor (who retired) didn't like that, but my new doctor is fine with it. I lose 1 to 2 pounds a week, 88 total so far.
