Nothing in diet soda is harmful. As a chemist, I can confirm that aspartame is completely safe.

You don't need to lose 4lbs a week. You're under eating.
-
I'm the same height as you, and weigh about 10lbs more. Without exercise factored in, and on the sedentary activity level, MyFitnessPal has my calorie goal to lose 2lbs a week at around 1650 calories per day. How are you calculating those calorie burns? The numbers may be inflated. Are you 100% accurate with your calorie…

I agree that your calorie goal seems high. I'm two inches taller and a hundred pounds heavier than you. With a half hour workout, I would probably aim to eat what you're eating. Where did you get that calorie goal? Also, are you anywhere near your period or ovulation (assuming female)? Because either or both of those can…

As many as you can manage before the evil chemikalz take over. (or, as many as you want to spend calories for. if diet, as many as you can drink without feeling sick.)
-
I lost about 40lbs in 5 months, but I was at ~170lbs to lose. If that's you in your picture, it doesn't look like that have anywhere near that much to lose. I'd advise just to stick to a reasonable deficit and be happy with what you lose.

I enjoy them. Some days I don't have enough time to meal prep for the next day, so I can grab one of them instead of eating out. Saves money and calories that way.
-
They don't harm your body. /insert the Sherlock "do your research" gif
-
Because some of us know enough about chemistry to know that there aren't any dangerous chemicals in diet soda.
-
Used to be Diet Pepsi, but it's disgusting now that it's sweetened with sucralose. So now I stick to Diet Coke. The chemikalz.

With three shots of espresso.

You do realise that what you're saying makes absolutely no sense, right? Some vitamins are entirely fat-soluble. You need to eat fat in order to absorb those vitamins, and your body fat isn't going to help with that. Dietary fat does not make a person fat. Excess calories does. Eating dietary fat doesn't prevent your body…

I stall before ovulation, and lose it all during my period.

Anything you can do in 10 days won't make enough of a difference to be noticed in photos, and would probably make you feel bad or ill for the wedding. I'm saying this as someone in your same position, but the wedding I'm in is about a month away. The urge to crash diet is strong. Just keep doing what you're doing.

Excited doesn't begin to cover it. One of my students asked me about it today, and it derailed the class for several minutes as I professed my incredible anticipation for the game.
-
I know the feeling. I had a rough, busy week and ended up wasting time by eating to the point where I was at maintenance for the week. No net loss for the week, unfortunately. But it's okay! We can get right back to it. Good luck.

I'm curious as to where you get the information that obese people don't feel as hungry, or that their stomachs don't feel empty. I'm obese. My stomach doesn't keep food in it while eating at a deficit just because my body has extra fat. I've been at a steep calorie deficit for almost 6 months. I get hungry when I skip a…

Tighten up your logging and weigh your food.
-
I don't have a comment on your goal weight, but that high rate of loss is concerning. Are you eating MFP's recommended calories?
-
No reason to eat low carb if OP doesn't want to.
-
I second the food scale. It's easy to overeat beyond your goal, simply because measuring cups can be wildly wrong. I'm also guessing that you have a good bit of water retention. You started all of this only four weeks ago. Keep doing what you're doing, tighten up your logging with a scale, and give it some more time. Also,…
-
Seconding this. You haven't mentioned trying calorie counting.
-
Why are you only eating 1500kcal at your weight and height? You should eat the calorie goal MFP tells you to eat for a 2lb/week loss.
-
I make sure to include a lot of veggies with my meals. Like, 300g of cabbage or something similar. I like volume, and it fills me up.
-
I'm not going to fight you on the horrors of organic chemistry, I hate it myself despite having enough graduate credits in it to teach it. I'm an analytical & environmental chemist all the way (the only chemistry that actually makes sense). I must be in Big-Aspartame's pocket. Getting all that money to falsely prove their…

I've lost 75lbs, 125lbs more to lose. My only exercise is walking, a few miles a day. I'm a really busy grad student, walking is all I have time for right now.
-
It's too late to change my career path now. My MFP course is set for defending aspartame's reputation, it seems.
-
I feel like this argument follows me everywhere I go. Poor, abused chemistry. Misquoted and misreferenced, fear-mongered chemistry.
-
Skipping breakfast isn't going to "slow your metabolism". There's no harm in skipping a meal you don't want.
-
I've lost 70+lbs. My only exercise is walking. I'm at a significantly higher weight and height than you, though, so my calorie intake won't really be applicable.
