  • congrats not only on your journey but also on having someone in your life such as your grandma! I really recommend shopping for a few items every mini goal reached (for me around 5 kgs~11lbs) and getting rid of too baggy items, as it helps getting your weight-loss in perspective

  • So true. I love how honest people are both with their success stories and setbacks. It also helps that the people here are so diverse not only in terms of their background and experiences but also in their goals. True about recharging, whenever I feel I am starting to get bored, or simple losing motivation, just spending…
  • I use this: http://www.amazon.com/Joseph-TriScale-Compact-Folding-Digital/dp/B0091QO41U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1436381549&sr=8-1&keywords=food+scale+joseph+joseph I just place it under the bread plate, zero it with the plate on top, when I get my meal I simply move each food type to it as I eat it to weigh it. Very smooth…
  • I started when I was almost 30 (2 months before my birthday, so yes better late than never  That is a very smart thing to do. My first week I just increased my general walking, just to get used to the idea of limiting and logging (being accountable) for my food. I started exercising after 10 days, and only focused on…
  • Sorry I somehow missed reading first line of your question
  • Eat fried eggs quickly  , or I guess any food healthy with healthy fat. My sister started to have these weird cravings for chicken nuggets awhile back when she started dieting. It was weird as she does not usually even like chicken nuggets. She did a quick search and found out that such strong cravings (especially…
  • Hi, I have noticed there are somewhat two "schools of thought" on this:* Based on workout: If you "exercise" an average total of 1 and a half hours per week, then you are lightly active. In this case, even if you are not reaching your 10,000 steps I would still consider you so. * Based on normal lifestyle: Mostly what you…

  • This week will be 1150 net calorie (were I do eat back my burned calories) That gives me around 1350-1450 calories to eat. I did it end of last year for 3 months, and I lost average of 0.75kg/week (1.65lb) eating back what I burn definitely works for me, even if only to motivate me to exercise o:)

  • Yes definitely! I am 5'0" ; in my first three months I would eat between 1400-1600 calories a day, I exercised 30-40min a day/6 days a week .. I would aim to have a net calorie count of 1200 My weight loss average was 0.8kgs/week (1.76lb) Definitely doable  just monitor your net calories; using your weekly…
  • Thats very good advice  will remind her of that  Thank you also for the local food descriptions  its helping getting them through my head! That sounds exciting, I thing I will try to convince her to not put any rule regarding drinks  That is what she asked me to help her define  and she…
  • It is not really, that is why it is delegated to me  That is what one of my tasks was, to help find out which foods might be higher in calorie so she can eat less of (or for example have as a meal instead of a snack) Thanks four your reply
  • They seem so amazing! I am not actually going on the trip :( ,, just helping my sister. Thanks for the advise on meat vendors, I will pass it on; she will be meeting some local friends so hopefully she will not have to worry as much. This is what this post is about  there are no restrictions on what to eat, and…
  • That seems amazing! I love the idea of doing that, but I only find it possible in places that I get to see more than once. Thanks for the note on the portions, that was what we were afraid of, as she had some friends who went to South America and cautioned her a bit especially about the snack/street food portions.
  • That is really good to know  thanks! As for fried food, maybe I am not very observant in terms of culinery arts, but I find it really hard to know which foods are fried in latin foods in general! So really thanks for the tip on fried food! I have underestimated how common it is there I have made her a list, of the…
  • She is really worried about gaining a couple of kilos, as her weight loss is now averaging 0.6 a week, so a couple of kgs will take more than three weeks to offset  We did this for two trips awhile back each around two weeks, and we did just that! first thing done was supermarket for snacks, breakfast and…
  • Thanks! thats something easily forgotten!
  • Thank you for your concern for my sister  but its really she requested me to do that for her! I told her its only two weeks and she definitely deserves a break! According to her she will feel more comfortable having a set of rules in addition to guidelines to help her. Otherwise what she fears might happen is that…
  • Thanks for the heads up  her stomach is quite resilient, but yeah its easy to forget this especially if you are meeting local friends. True about the carbs! The form they are in its easy to underestimate! There will be a bet of socializing in addition to the touring; she will be wearing a fitness tracker (with…
  • That is what we are hoping for, she is not planning on counting/logging, but it is hard to judge what is reasonable with such a new cuisine, and will she should still enjoy the amazing foods on offer
  • ShannonMpls What we are doing now is very sustainable, there are no pure "restrictions"; she eats any food she wants, knows how to make healthy choices, monitor that weekly food distributions are healthy. Her concern now is that the cuisine is very new. Of course that is there! But when we consider travel to be a part of…
  • Hi klmw91, She enjoys latin foods, and exploring foods in general. There is no blanket no against other foods, just that she should follow the existing pattern she has been following. This is just a way of ensuring she does not feel inclined to stick to food she knows than to explore which is the purpose of travel. That's…
