Great! Thanks everyone, that's good to know.

Just the basics today, ran out of time. Squats: 5x5 @ 66 kg Bench: 5x5 @ 32.5 kg - another woman in the gym showed me how I could use blocks to help my feet reach the ground! Row: 5x5 @ 36 kg - 2x18kg dumbbells All good!

Hello! I think it's only natural to think 'surely i should do more?' when you start this, because it seems like too little, too simple. But it appears not! I think just start with the basics and do that for a while, then see what you want to do? That's what I'm doing, anyway...

I'd really, really recommend fractional plates. I have a set of eight 0.25kg plates, so I can add half a kilo at a time. That's about a pound. It takes the fear away - I mean, if you can squat 120, you can squat 121lbs, right? And so on... (I wish someone would fix the screen width on here, too much scrolling back and…

Hi! Welcome! There are a few of us fairly new to 5x5 here. I'd repeat what @canadianlbs said - don't worry about starting too light. I felt like my weights were a bit silly-small when i started but it gets heavier fast, so use that time to get used to the lifts and make sure your form is good.

Great workout tonight, I feel so good! Squats 5x5 @ 65.5kg (man, I love squats!) Deadlift 1x5 @ 62.5kg (not so sure about loving these) OHP 3/5/5/4/3 @ 22kg (think better to drop back on this!) Then some dips, and a bit of cardio before home.

Maybe they keep their chalk down there. The group of young guys that I see all the time spend a lot of time giggling and waving weights about in the most peculiar way, like they think they're those shake-weight things. It's very odd. There was also a woman demanding that the staff 'tell me what to do'. They'd suggest…

Squats 5x5 @ 65 kg - these are feeling really good Bench 5x5 @ 32.5 kg - I've dropped back a bit in weight as i realised my form wasn't right, trying to work on that Rows 5x5 using 2 x 18kg dumbells Nothing much to report, all went well...

They're great!

Today I hit a man on the leg with a 16kg kettlebell. Or rather, a man walked his leg right into the path of the kettlebell. Idiot! I had been swinging for a wee while - this was like the 12th swing of 15, so it was easy to see where the ball was going to be. My arms are short, the damn thing doesn't even end up very far in…

I had a great non 5x5 workout today, just taking the opportunity to getting to the gym on a day off. Kettlebells, some elliptical, sit ups, just having fun really! Back to the squats etc tomorrow :-)

Oh dear. 1) Yes! 2) No bikes rides at all 3) No - keep forgetting 4) Not looking likely! 5) Not so far 6) I suppose it's still possible!

Just back from a weekend away, eating and drinking too much with friends. Great fun, but time to get back to the gym! Squats: 5x5 @ 64.5 kg - easy peasy! OHP: 4/3/5/4/3 @ 22kg - hmm. Not easy peasy Deadlift 5 @ 60 kg. I need to increase but I'm scared! I have a day off tomorrow so I plan to head back to the gym and do all…

It took me a while to find the progress thread but blimey, well done Dawn, you look amazing!

I love the bearded guy too! And I don't *think* I'm too far from doing things right, having watched that, but I'll think about it next time I bench press and make sure I'm doing ok.
-
Hmm. Just in from doing bench press and think I'd better watch these videos, I suspect I'm going a bit wrong! So ... Squats: 5x5 @ 64 kg bench: 5x5 @ 35 kg Row: 4x5 1x4 @ 18kg dumbbells All good, felt strong...

I've just come here for 5 minds to catch up on what everyone's doing, and to calm down from someone annoying me at work! You lot cheer me up with all your great workouts. It's good to put things into perspective by stepping away from the irritation - and now I'm picturing arm wrestling the stupid person who annoyed me, and…

Do you know ... that's never happened. Well, I did once share a gym with my boss in a hotel gym and that was pretty weird! But I was just doing cardio then, and I'm less self conscious about that. I'd feel very strange seeing someone I knew while I was squatting, say. It's actually strange that it's never happened!
-
It's so weird when you see gym people outside, in the world. They always look so different, and I feel like we share a secret. (That sounds like my gym is much more interesting than it is!)

Tonight: Squats: 5x5 @ 63.5kg - I was getting a slight pain/ strain in my left quad. Which suggests, if nothing else, that I'm unbalanced! I'll need to look at that... Deadlifts: 1x5 @ 60kg - I've got a bit scared of these, but that really wasn't too hard, so I'll go up next time OHP: 3/5/5/4/4 @ 22kg - obviously getting a…

What's everyone been doing this weekend? I went out with a friend on Friday, then out again on Saturday with husband, sister and her partner. Noodles, and too much beer. Oh, and we saw Spectre, the James Bond film. Pretty silly, I got a bit bored! Other than that, lots of walking and a great gym session this afternoon.…

I had a lovely relaxed time this afternoon - no rush to get home, and the gym was pretty empty. There was a storm outside the windows but it was warm and calm inside. Squats: 5x5 @ 63kg Bench: 5x5 @ 35kg - in the squat rack this time rows 5x5 @ 16kg dumbells Then pull ups, some kettlebells swings, snatches and…

Happy birthday!

Oooohhh, I see! Thanks! It would take a higher shelf for me to reach
-
Hmm, I should probably explain that that last post related to Guy Fawkes Night/ Bonfire night...
-
It's raining here, but it still sounds like a war zone out there! Gave my quite a fright when some went off just outside the gym.
-
Oooh! I wear old cycling gloves, partly to avoid callouses and partly, I have to admit, because I feel more tough and gnarly with gloves on. But these look great! Well, they look weird. But great.

I got a bit stressed when I got there tonight and both squat racks were taken up. It's hard to find anywhere else to do deadlifts or OHPs in the small gym I was in this evening. I mean, I could make do - and I was just setting up to do so when the woman on one of the racks gave me a nod to say she was done. Woo! Squats:…

(The nails - blue - are obviously irrelevant, but they do add to the picture of how ridiculous I must look right now...)
-
Wow! 'm now trying to do those - while painting my nails. It's reminiscent of pelvic floor exercises
