Allergic to the barbell
I developed a little scaly patch at the top/ back of my right arm recently, all rough and extremely itchy. I went down my usual route of deciding it's a melanoma or some deathly skin disease, until I realised - scratch - scratch - that I have an identical one on my left arm. I don't think skin disease is generally…

"Don't do anything extreme" - drat
My optician just told me I have some swelling in my optic nerve and is referring me for checks. So I asked if there's anything I need to be careful of, and he said I can "have a glass of wine - but don't drink too much". And weight lifting? "Well, you can do some, but don't push yourself too hard, basically don't do…

Fireworks! November workouts going off like a rocket
Is it okay if I start this? I feel too much of a newbie. But here we go. I don't even have any stronglifts to add, just lots of walking yesterday and a cardio session at the gym. Day off today as too much travelling. But I like reading everyone else's workouts :-)

What are these shelves on the squat rack?
Last night, during a rest, I took this photo of these wee shelves on the opposite squat rack. I always just fold them down, if I'm using that one - but what are they for? And yes, those are my legs in the background

Amino acids
Do you take them? My trainer seems convinced they're essential when lifting big weights, but I'm generally anti supplements. Thoughts?

Deloading?
Do you back off the weights every now and again? By how much, and how often? Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, I did look at the FAQS...

Trainer booked, just for a form check
Well. I've booked a one off session with a PT on Saturday, to check I'm not doing anything completely stupid in any of the lifts. I decided that I was being a bit over enthusiastic and throwing myself into this without 100% knowing what I'm doing! I did a bit of training to be a PT years ago and I've watched a zillion…
