In my experience, if you have to ask "could this be a stress fracture?", then it isn't! The pain would be enough to clue you in. @AdrianChr92 That picture is gorgeous! @9voice9 Sending you and your family thoughts of strength and love. Such a tragedy when someone so young is taken, and with such a cruel cause. January Running Challenge 1st - 12.66 miles inc 5km PB 25:05 3rd - 3.11 miles 4th - 6.17 miles 6th - 3.03 miles 7th - 3.11 miles 8th -…

Congratulations @Virkati

Just a quick check in after club run. It was a bit of an annoying run actually, one girl kept going on and on that I run funny because one of my feet sticks out at an angle (it does). But no matter how many times I told her that it's fine, it's a skeletal abnormality that I've had since a baby so it isn't a problem because…

@MNLittleFinn I'll be sure to let you know my thoughts on my plan, but right now it seems to be serving me really well. I have made some adjustments, however. For example, I know it breaks the 25-33% rule for long runs that @Stoshew71 and others swear by so, to make that work, I'm taking into account the time spent…

@MNLittleFinn I'm following the Hal Higdon Beginners 2 programme, although with some tweaks I made. The only speedwork they have are some MP runs, but that's not exactly fast given my predicted time.
-
Treadmill run with a killer fast finish today, which gave me a fix for a fast run without actually doing one. Marathon training is boring and repetitive without any speedwork! I ran my fastest ever 1km at the end though and it felt great. I even enjoyed my cross training today, which I normally dread. January Running…

Quick check in, will catch up on Monday. Short long run today and a few new race dates in the diary courtesy of my club. January Running Challenge 1st - 12.66 miles inc 5km PB 25:05 3rd - 3.11 miles 4th - 6.17 miles 6th - 3.03 miles 7th - 3.11 miles 8th - 12.04 miles 10th - 3.09 miles 12th - 4.35 miles 14th - 9.12 miles…

Just a short run today in the worst weather I have ever run in. The rain was torrential, and became snow mid-run, but I went out there and got it done. It took a long time and a huuuuge cup of tea to warm up afterwards though. Really enjoying my cutback week though, and so are my legs. It's good to refresh the mind and…

@autumnblade75 When I run with a sinus-based cold, I feel loads better after too. It clears the system out! @MNLittleFinn Glad to see you're feeling better. I'm sure another rest day will do you good. @greenolivetree I had to leave the idea of long runs for over a year, and didn't run anything more than 5 miles. But then,…

That's a great time @Orphia, it's not uncommon for courses to fall a bit short if you stuck very close to the inside of any bends etc, so don't let that annoy you. There being no medal is disappointing though, I've had the same thing on race day before and been really annoyed, even though they did at least send them in the…

@OSUbuckeye906 So sorry to hear about your stress fracture, wishing you a speedy recovery. It's such a shame that the cost of an MRI is putting you off, but my instinct would be "better the devil you know" - it's easier to deal with if you know exactly what is wrong. We really ought to be more grateful for the free…

A nice run tonight to test my hamstring (another work-related twinge). I'm not going to brave my long run tomorrow, I'll leave it until Sunday just in case, but shouldn't be a problem. January Running Challenge 1st - 12.66 miles inc 5km PB 25:05 3rd - 3.11 miles 4th - 6.17 miles 6th - 3.03 miles MTD - 24.97/100 miles…

@dkabambe For that budget here in the U.K., I wouldn't look at a Garmin. The TomTom Runner watches do everything a Garmin does, only much cheaper. I think they are on to model 3 now, so if you look online for model 2 then I bet you could pick one up for £50. I love mine, I'm so glad I didn't waste money on a Garmin (they…

A nice, speedy run with the club tonight, which I really enjoyed. Now to sit in an Epsom salt bath and read back your messages :) January Running Challenge 1st - 12.66 miles 3rd - 3.11 miles 4th - 6.17 miles MTD - 21.94/100 miles Upcoming races: 12th March 2017 - North London Half Marathon 9th April 2017 - Brighton Marathon

7 pages already? I have no chance of catching up, and I missed the last 2 days of the December challenge too. My final miles for December were 86.89, beating an 80 mile goal, so I'm going to shoot for a goal of 100 for the month and try to hit triple figures for the first time! I think it should be easy, I have renewed…

Made my goal with a couple of days to spare... who am I?! :) Sorry I've been quiet, but family duty calls. No doubt I will get some replying done tomorrow when I'm supposed to be at work! Some hard miles this morning, but got up and got it done so tomorrow can be a rest day. Hope you all have an amazing Christmas everyone! A nice run today, my first daylight training run in three weeks and it felt great to be out there. It was grey and miserable but still, really uplifting  December Running Challenge 2nd - 3.06 miles 3rd - 11.02 miles 6th - 3.04 miles 7th - 5.19 miles 8th - 4.05 miles 10th - 4.73 miles 12th - 3.18 miles 14th - 6.22…

@9voice9 and @BeeerRunner Thanks for the suggestions. I can't get either of your recommendations here in the UK, but it's good to know that there are some solutions out there. I just need to find them! @shanaber Think I will have a serious look at the Nike one, it's not stupidly expensive either. Thank you :)

@shanaber Is that the Shield Flash one? Dear Santa...

@skippygirlsmom You seem like just the person I need to ask right now - is there such a thing as a running jacket that actually keeps you dry when it rains? I went out for a run in the rain on Monday and have a stinking cold now, and I don't think that helped. I was soaked right through. My supposed 'showerproof' running…
-
@skippygirlsmom Love that photo! It's so true. Had a great run last night, my club went on its annual Santa pub crawl. We ran about a mile to a pub, had a drink, then ran another mile to another pub etc. We went to 4 pubs and then back to the clubhouse for pizza, more drink (!) and other snacks. It was so much fun, we did…

Thanks to everyone so much for all the congratulations on my HM PB this weekend. There were so many on here, my status update, Instagram and strava that I couldn't begin to name you all, but you have no idea how much I appreciate your support. I told one person my time IRL, and he said "is that good?" *eye roll*, so…

I would say that's a good idea. It was my 6th HM and I still found it quite challenging with all the other runners around doing different things, having to remember to count your laps etc. It was a great race, and so much Christmassy fun, but not an ideal first HM. There are some great ones in the South East though, so I'm…

So, I had my HM this morning and absolutely smashed it! My previous PB was 2:02:53 and all I wanted was to squeak under 2 hours, but I managed 1:56:20  Absolutely over the moon with more than 6 minutes off my PB in 3 months. It was a 1-mile course that we ran 13 times, although we did the .1 at the beginning to…

I am half Canadian and half Russian, so there's no excuse for me! We just are not used to it here. Just been out for a club run. Possibly my last run before my half on Saturday, or might put in a couple of easy miles on Friday to get the legs moving. Either way, the training is done, sub-2 is ON  December Running…

I don't know how you lot go out in some of the weather you have. The coldest it ever gets where I live in the UK is -6C(21F) and that's enough to put us off :cold_sweat: I guess it's just what you're used to, plus we don't have the infrastructure to cope with it either, so a bit of snow and all our transport grinds to a…
