  • I know I haven’t been an active member here for a long time now, but it was a huge part of my life for a long time. Despite the time passing since I’ve been online here, I have been deeply saddened in a way I didn’t think I would be since hearing of Kevin’s passing - I think the fact that someone can touch someone’s life…
  • What a huge loss @MobyCarp is to the running community, I couldn’t believe what I read this morning on strava. He was always such a huge inspiration, so knowledgeable and such a gentleman. Extremely sad
  • I have a pair of men’s ASICS in the same size as my women’s ones (same model etc) for this exact reason and I can’t honestly tell the difference.
  • Ran yesterday and today in the daylight and it’s so much easier. Must do this more during the remaining winter months. February Running Challenge 3rd - 4 miles 4th - 5 miles Goal: 9/137miles Race Calendar 10th March - Grizzly 20mile 7th April - Manchester Marathon
  • Mentally, I’m really struggling. So today I got my backside out of bed and went to cheer runners at the London Winter 20km (over 15,000 runners today, so it’s a big one). After spending time with friends cheering and seeing other friends smash their runs, I actually wanted to run today and I loved being out there. I’ve…
  • I missed my January target by less than a mile because my mental health decided it would take over my physical health. Best get back on it for February (not that I’ve made it out today, either) seeing as I have my goal marathon coming up at the beginning of April. This month is crucial. I must not mess it up now. Goal -…
  • Last week: I am the queen of all things running, I am motivated and feeling stronger and healthier each day. This week: Bedtime yet? It can’t always be that easy though I guess, I just need to remember why I’m doing this and try to ride it out. Fortunately the lack of enthusiasm comes with a cutback week, so it’s not the…
  • @martaindale I have definitely planned my plans around my hair washing in the past! I’ve given up now and just don’t bother to style it most days, but it’s a consideration in all my planning. I’d love to cut my hair short for this reason, but running already controls everything else, maybe cutting my hair off for running…
  • Did the Orangetheory class today that I missed on Tuesday to round off the week. I’ve never done more than 4 consecutive days of running before and this takes me up to six, as life meant I’ve had to swap a couple of sessions and miss a double-workout day. I won’t be making a habit of this, not only because my body needs a…
  • Today’s planned long run was 13 miles, but mapmyrun is a liar and said today’s 14.5 mile route was 13. Unfortunately, stopping at 13 miles would have meant walking 1.5 miles to meet my other half at the shopping mall I was heading to for coffee, and by then it was raining and I was starting to feel cold anyway, so I…
  • Orangetheory class done tonight, with 3 miles covered on the treadmills. Lots of sprints and quick blasts with blocks of 60secs at 7min/mile, 60/90/120secs rest at 8 min/mile, then 30secs 7min/mile and 30secs at 6min/mile. I’d never do this sort of speed work on my own, so the class is perfect for me. Plus, 30 minutes on…
  • Tuesday was an ok run, but a toilet call caused me to cut short by a mile and a half. Yesterday was a great tempo run with my running club and today’s run was somewhere between “okay” and “rubbish” on the scale. They can’t all be good runs! To be honest, I’m just glad to keep running this week despite work, and family…
  • Having never run in anything colder than -3C courtesy of the UK climate, I wouldn’t know what to recommend on that front, sorry! However, I do know that everything I’ve bought from their running-specific range (note not their more general fitness/gym range which, as seems industry-standard these days, is more about fashion…
  • They are huge in France and the UK and I’d highly rate their stuff. There’s no notable difference in quality compared to Nike/UA etc, but it’s a LOT cheaper. (Although I’ve never tried their shoes, only clothing and my hydration bag)
  • 200+ messages since last time I came online, but I’ve had a busy few days with my brother being hospitalised so it’ll take me a while to catch up. Nonetheless, I still managed to drag my tired and stressed backside to run a HM today and goodness knows how, but I got a 2minute PB! Not only am I thrilled, but it makes me…
  • I find the discussion of temperatures on here insane all through the year - here in the UK, anything below 0C (32F) is considered incredibly cold. In the same way, anything above 25C (77F) is pretty much considered a heatwave. Some of your bodies are used to very different temperatures to us Brits! Give us rain though and…
  • Yesterday’s run couldn’t have gone worse, but I now believe it was due to not eating enough, as I back-dated my food log on here and was nearly 2000 calories short over three days. I have eaten SO much today and it’s been great! My run tonight felt great, and I smashed Orangetheory this evening. Finally feel like I’m…
  • Today’s run was not good. I felt so shaky and dizzy by mile 2 that I just had to head home, coming in a mile-and-a-half shy of plan. I haven’t really made sure I’ve been eating more since upping the marathon training miles, eating more doesn’t seem to come naturally to me, so I suspect it is that. I’ve had a big dinner and…
  • Today I was a run leader for one of the running groups im a member of, and lead a pace group on a long run. I do it once a month with the group and absolutely love it! It was supposed to be a 13 mile route, but one of the group said she was scared of her marathon training plan for next week because she had to go over a HM…
  • Easy four miles today. I didn’t want to go but, as usual, felt loads better by mile two. The first mile is a liar. January Running Challenge 2nd - 4 miles 5th - 7 miles (0.8WU + 10km race) 6th - 5 miles 7th - 4 miles 8th - 7 miles 10th - 5 miles Goal: 32/125 miles Race Calendar 20th January - Windsor Winter HM 10th March -…
  • Today, I had one of those days at work that made me want to run and run and run. My plan had 4 miles + Orangetheory, which is usually about 3 miles on the treadmills, so I decided to rearrange my class and run the 7 miles in one go instead. I didn’t look at my watch until the end, I just ran a very easy pace and enjoyed…
  • Four easy miles today as a run commute. They really do me the world of good, I’m motivated to run, I destress from the day before I get home and can’t talk myself out of it running (You know, without sleeping at work anyway ) January Running Challenge 2nd - 4 miles 5th - 7 miles (0.8WU + 10km race) 6th - 5…
  • Yesterday did the trick - today I WANTED to go for a run for the first time in weeks. It may have had something to do with knowing I had the time and daylight to go to my favourite place too, but that just made the run even more enjoyable. I loved every step and my heart wanted me to stay out there and run for longer, but…
  • I would say the lesson I learned was that listening to my body was the right choice, and sounds like you did that :) It’s what led me to drop my running right back during October-December and it not have had an impact on my fitness, and it’s what led me to a great run, purely running by feel.
  • I had my first race of the year today, the QEOP 10km. The purpose of this race was to see exactly where I’m at. I was planning to go all-out and see exactly how far away from my PB I was, but on the way to the race, the negative voices set in - “You already know you’re crap, why race to prove that? Just go home.” I sat in…
  • @medmuso Congratulations! My training last week was equally set back a few days for that same reason, but if there were ever a good excuse to miss a run I reckon that’s it! @Elise4270 I have never flown for longer than 3hrs, so I can’t help, but I am very jealous of your anatomy colouring book. More details, please
  • Four easy miles with my fiancée today, as we are staying with his family and I would get lost in the area without him. It’s nice we are both the same pace at the moment, although I shouldn’t say that as it’s only because he’s rehabbing from injury, so it won’t be long before he goes back to leaving me behind. January…
  • I like this goals versus resolutions thing, it makes a lot of sense to me. My 2019 resolution is, as I’ve already mentioned, to consistently run 4 times a week. Even between training plans, just to keep myself going. My 2019 goal is a 3:42 marathon to get ‘good for age’ qualification for the London Marathon (3:45 is the…
  • It’s interesting to read how many people are pledging mileage but are more concerned about making running a habit, as this has been bugging me too. I’ve been running constantly 4/5 times a week for at least 3 years, or rather I had been until Berlin Marathon in September. I spent years running as a habit, yet it took me…
  • I finally replaced my phone and now the app works, I can come back! I miss chatting running with you all. Although it’s been fab to keep seeing everyone do so well via Strava, it’s not quite the same. So, I’m in for the new month as I tackle training for the Manchester Marathon in April. I’m aiming for sub-3:45 so I can…
