  • I've been reading some books (well, one specifically that covers this), and it recommends something different from what I've been doing. I've been splitting each workout into two groups per workout. So I'm gonna take the recommendations in that book and these in this discussion as well, and going to try to come up with…
  • Thanks guys. I'm definitely gonna check these out next chance I get. Keep 'em coming.
  • General rule is if you're meeting your goals, change nothing. So if you've lost 20 pounds in 2 months (which seems excessive--that's more than 2 pounds a week), whatever you're doing, I wouldn't change...as long as your goal is to lose weight and your doctor says it's ok. If you started to exercise more, I'd eat those…
  • Went to Denny's, had some fries. Can't remember the calories of the fries, but I was over by 300 calories that day. Suffice it to say, all my fries are now homemade.
  • I used to love almonds and peanuts. I shouldn't say "used to." I still do. But they're calorie dense, so I only have them on occasion.
  • I don't really pay attention to negative calories. No point. It's not gonna have much effect.
  • Ok, so essentially thermic effect is how easy/hard something is to digest?
  • So that switch--when you went from working out longer for fewer days vs. when you worked out shorter for more days--how did that affect your muscle growth/weight maintenance/etc? Or what did you have to do to compensate (other than reschedule your week)?
  • I don't think diet soda is innocent, but I don't think it causes weight gain. It might make a switch in our heads that make us eat more, thinking we're doing ok in our diets, but the soda itself doesn't cause it. Other health detriments? Yeah. Probably. They'll nail it for something one day. But I doubt our fat percentage…
  • Gotcha. So as long as I'm doing basically 3.5 hours a week, I'm good. Awesome!
  • Peanut butter. Definitely peanut butter. I used to have...I dunno...five to ten tablespoons a day when I got home, depending on my hunger. Now that I know how many calories are packed in a tbsp, I stay away unless I'm behind.
  • I think people have said it, but what's your goal? If it's to lose weight and keep it off, or if it's to improve your non-muscle fitness, cardio. If it's to gain muscle mass, weights. Doing weight training takes off the pounds on its own. So, if that's your goal, you'll get there by doing weights first anyway. However, if…
  • Cuz I can make it into vegetable soup.
  • I usually throw in potatoes. If I want veggies, I'll have them on the side: spinach, tomatoes....
  • Yes! Finally found another meal alternative! And we found it inexpensive at a bulk store. Thank you all! I was worried mostly about the yeast extract.
  • I have a cheat day once a week but stay in my calorie allotment. Every so often--every three months or so--I don't worry. That's coming up next weekend. Wife wants to do a buffet.
  • @MrM27‌ but I was at a 500-calorie deficit, so if I gain 100 calories a week, it'll take longer than a couple weeks. And, so I should have 1 gram of protein per body weight then? So... * protein: 150 grams/600 calories * fat: 54 grams/486 calories * carbs: the rest/still a little under 1,000 calories And, @Wheelhouse15‌ ,…
  • @‌SideSteel As far as macros, since I'm about 150 lbs and have 10.5% body fat, that means, daily: * protein: 134 grams/536 calories/26% of intake * fat: 54 grams/486 calories/24% of intake * carbs: the rest/a little under 1,000 calories/50% intake And then adjust/balance carbs vs. fat according to what's working/my…
  • I use a caliper and a scale in tandem. I don't trust my scale's measurement of my body fat percentage though. It says I have 20% but I can see my abs.
  • I've been modifying my calorie intake as my weight gets lower...if that counts for anything. But the bottom line is just keep going and the fat will come off, just slower? Ok, thanks guys. And I should lower my goal to half a pound? How come? Not being defensive, but just want to know the logic. Is that cuz my calories get…
  • And, honestly, even if these fat pills DID work, I think I'd prefer to exercise my fat out. The fat pills would shed the fat, but they wouldn't teach a person how to lead a healthy lifestyle. That comes only from learning and experience, not from some mythical medication.
  • Those diet pills are essentially telling you to do everything you need plus spend money on pills. What they say is regular weight exercise + regular cardio exercise + good diet + our pills = your goals. The reality is regular weight exercise + regular cardio exercise + healthy diet + positive mindset +…
