Keeping a food diary of any sort changes the way you eat, even if you aren't setting any specific goals. When you think about what you eat, you eat better. I really appreciate you bringing this up. Eating disorders are always something to watch out for, and I know that I'm always at risk of jumping off into anorexia land.

Here's my before picture that I took yesterday: Male, 5'11", age 28, sedentary lifestyle, 179 lbs. Going by BMI I'm at the upper end of "normal weight," but my lack of exercise means that I still have a lot of excess fat. The areas I'd like to see reduction are my belly, my thighs, and my upper arms.

Yeah, not drinking calories makes a huge difference. I think that change alone, between highschool and college, caused my equilibrium weight to go from 215 lbs to 195 lbs.
