  • I have been on maintenance for over three years. You can do this! We have all survived losing the (damned) weight, and are all on track to keep it off. So, a little extra calories here and there...take another walk or run, or whatever your favorite exercise it. Veggies! Eat them. Protein is good, too. Watch the fats and…
  • @MeganReid1991 I lost 70ish pounds in less than a year NOT weighing my food (let the booing begin), but guessing. I love bacon! A couple of cooked strips is somewhere between 60 and 100 calories. Honey, go for it! What is life without bacon? P.S. I have kept the weight off for more than three years.
  • OP, you obviously are having trouble. You do not even know in which province you live. You have been here for 3 years and are just now asking for ideas to get thru winter? I run year 'round. I walk, too. Showshoeing is pretty fun in winter. There are tons of exercise videos on youtube that you can exercise with/to when the…
  • I second what @NewLIFEstyle4ME said!!!
  • Acid reflux is the 3rd most common cause of a chronic cough.
  • Wow, my treat was just to be able to run as far as I wanted. Still is...
  • I, too, suffered from acid reflux when I was heavy. I went from the burning throat feeling to throwing up after a big meal to a chronic cough that lasted forever! I also had a wedgie pillow so I could sleep kind of sitting up. I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and reflux after more than a year of symptoms. Doc put me on…
  • Also, once you have entered a recipe into "My Recipes" you can use it over and over. This is a great tool. Best wishes on your journey!
  • @VanVanDiane I think the alternative to aging is way worse than aging. (Maybe because I am 60) While I like to think I look good, I obviously do not look the same as when I was 30 or 40. I do, however feel way better than I have since I was in my late teens/early 20s.
  • As to clothing...this may sound weird, but I noticed when I was fat, the big sizes of clothes really got a b.o. smell. Now, maybe it was me and my body chemistry was different. But, the only times I (or anyone around me) notice any b.o. now is after a sweaty run. I often wondered if clothing manufacturers were somehow…
  • I am 5'7" and female. Not sure about walking, but a 6.4 mile run is 11,365 (ish) steps.
  • To the shoe people: My feet have grown from size 6 to size 7. Probably because I started running and my feet kind of spread out. I never would have considered this. Hmm. I, too see others who are heavy, but I consider where they might be in their journey. Funny how we all see things just a bit differently. I do cry inside…
  • Well, um, husband or boyfriend? OK, moving on. Have whoever work out with you. If he is not ready to do so, have him start dinner while you exercise, whether it is Tae Bo, running, walking, whatever. My husband does not run with me, nor does he exercise with me using videos. He DOES walk with me, which is pretty cool. He…
  • YES, YES! My house is cleaner, I have trouble sitting for more than 10 minutes, I just love to move! I've lost 70ish pounds and kept them off for 3+ years. Yay! Move, move, move!
  • It can be difficult dealing with the naysayers. Ignore them. You are doing what is best for you, not them. Chin up and be proud of your accomplishment!
  • CICO. Cut Calories first, then worry about macros.
  • I wish a thread like this was around 3 years ago. I joined MFP almost 4 years ago, tipping the scales at 187 (I'm 5'7"). My doc said I was this close to obese and recommended MFP. Yay, I lost the weight. At 130, I called maintenance, but kept losing! I know now that I was not alone in that, but it would have been nice to…
  • @nowine4me I am in year 4 of MFP; year 3 of maintenance. I am 60 years old, have lost 70ish pounds. I have found that maintenance is a good thing - BUT it took me a year or so to regulate my weight. At some point, we all learn how to eat and maintain. If you are still having trouble, maybe it is time to re-evaluate what it…
  • OMG @NewLIFEstyle4ME I forgot all about the rings! I was in a store one day and, boom, my wedding ring fell off and clanked on the floor! Thank God I heard it. When it is hot and humid the rings are not a problem, but come winter, look out everyone.
  • After 4 years, I think you are awesome for only gaining back a few pounds. You lost before, you can do it again. I, too, think it is great that you recognize what needs to be done. Now, do it! :)
  • OK, so I like to feel my muscles in my legs...
  • @Jimb376mfp you will be fine! Prayers...
  • As long as you log your drinks and consider them into your daily caloric intake, no problem. Do keep in mind alcohol can dehydrate you so maybe a water back every couple of drinks. Oh, and eat some food, too.
  • Ok all you 72 degree lovers...borderline. If there is a breeze, I will run, but I prefer much cooler. I am happily awaiting autumn and morning temps in the 40s and 50s. I really hate to sweat buckets. I did manage 10k this morning with 69 degree temp and drizzle. So humid, my sweat did not evaporate. :'(
  • @singingflutelady My husband had a colostomy for a year. He has some scars from that and the mesh the doc used to try and forestall any hernia. He has a very bumpy belly. Real life is NOT all flat tummies, 6-pack abs and butterflies and roses. The thing I like about this thread is that it is REAL; extra skin, scars,…
  • I had a HUGE belly when I decided it was time to lose the weight. Guess what was the first part of my body to lose? Yep, my belly. I started here at 187# and lost more than 50 when I called maintenance. Kept losing until I had lost 70ish. Still maintaining. You can do this!!! Oh, yeah, I am almost 60.
  • @hesn92 OMG!!! Me, too. Nothing kills a plank like a good belly laugh. Forgive the pun.
  • OK, here goes. (No pics) Age: 59 Kids: 2 Other stuff: No No tumors, no fibroids, but I do have a tummy. In fact, I have always said jeans companies should have relaxed tummy, not relaxed butt jeans. I weighed 190 and wore XXL or 18 pants. Even at 116 I wear 4 pants. The legs are baggie and the waist is snug.
  • Running usually clears my head of just about everything. However, I am pretty darn good at thinking of food!
