  • No crazy 80s angles, but some awesome leotards and perms. It's comparable to pilates, probably a little more challenging because of the very high # of reps (pulses). I only do it once or twice a month on my designated rest/stretching day so can't testify to results. I wrote the workout down after watching it a couple times…
  • Chuck Taylors here as well.
  • I ran in -10F a couple days ago and actually got too warm.
  • I'm a runner (still feels funny to describe myself that way!). I ran my first mile ever in February and have done some 5K races, a couple 10K trail races, and a sprint triathlon. I'm not officially training for anything right now, but I did register for my first half marathon in May. My motivation to start running was…
  • Lol. It takes me a few weeks to adjust to a new calendar year! :D I ran my first 11 minute mile on 2/6/14. First 5K race on 5/10/14, and first half marathon distance (at 8:30/mile pace) on 12/13/14. So, yes, OP, you certainly CAN do this!
  • I haven't read all the posts in this thread, so forgive me if I'm redundant. I ran my first mile EVER this year after doing the C25K program. Literally ever. As far as my high school gym teacher knew, I had my period and was incapacitated every time we were supposed to run. At some point in my childhood, some jerkface kid…
  • Not so much an equipment thing, but had an awkward moment at the gym just tonight. One of the gym worker guys (might be a trainer? not sure) was straightening up the weight room (which I had all to myself!!!), and he asked me if I was training for something. He caught me by surprise because, a.) no talking while I'm…
  • I attempted my first ever squat in the power cage backwards. No wonder unracking the bar felt so awkward. Another time I pulled the pin out of the cross cable machine and very nearly took a lat pull-down bar to the head when it came crashing down. Luckily a nice teenage boy caught the bar and saved me a huge headache and…
  • It looks like there were about 150 females in the non-newbie wave last year. I signed up for the first timer wave. The bike and run are definitely my stronger areas, so it'll be a fun challenge to play catch-up with the rest of the pack. Thanks for your advice!
  • Asics Gel-Flux. I've been professionally fitted and also own Asics Gel-Nimbus and Brooks Ghost 6, but I keep coming back to my Gel-Flux.
  • I just read through that whole Starting Strength instructional, and (gasp!) I'm actually looking forward to doing my OHP tonight.
  • My hubby is a Type 1 diabetic and did the 100-mile Tour de Cure ride in May after only owning his bike for about 6 weeks. He had a blast and plans to do the ride again this year. After watching him cross the finish line, I promptly went out and bought my own road bike  Agree with all of this. I'd get 2 water bottle…
  • Maybe a personal trainer isn't the best strategy for you. I personally would not like being the object of someone's sole attention while I was working out. Heck, I get flustered if I feel like I'm being watched in the weight room! Now that you've gotten a couple months of personal training under your belt, perhaps it's…
  • Fitness goals: 1. squat 1.5x body weight 2. DL 2x body weight 3. Make some sort of progress on my freaking OHP 4. Do a pull-up at least once 5. Run a 5K in 23:30, a 10K in 50:00, and a half marathon in 1:45:00 6. Complete a 50 mile bike ride, and if that goes well, maybe a century 7. Conquer my intense fear of open water…
  • I'll go first. I've been lurking in the group but haven't posted yet. Hi. Bust: 34" Ribcage: 30 Bicep: 10-R / 10-L Waist: 26.5 Naval: 28.5 Hips: 36.5 Thigh: 19.5-R / 19-L Calf: 13-R / 13.5-L Height: 5'4" Weight: 127ish (was 126 before all the holiday cookies & booze) BF%: 18.5 (according to the handheld thingie) I…
  • My best running happens in the late morning (after the diuretic effects of coffee, but before lunch), which is not always feasible with my weekday schedule. I usually "reward" myself with dinner after an evening run.
  • -4F with 18 mph winds. Overdressed (again! apparently I will never learn) and had to cut it short because I was too hot.
  • I did Stronglifts 5x5 earlier this year and eventually got to a point where I was too sore on my non-lifting days to do much else. I took the summer off from heavy lifting (trained for my first triathlon instead) and have recently restarted Stronglifts. This time I'm only lifting twice per week, and it feels much more…
  • Do you like shrimp or other seafood? Tons of protein and not a lot of calories.
  • Thanks, ShawnTX! Always good to have techie friends :) My husband has the 310XT watch actually--that thing is ginormous but he loves it! He syncs his Garmin data with the Ant+ usb onto his work laptop, and I use the wired usb charger/upload cable for my watch on my desktop. I think we can work it out OK and will give it a…
  • Sure do. Hubby is type 1 diabetic. I've never actually vomited when running, although I did have to jump over the rope at the finish line chute during a race once because I was literally choking it down. It was awful. It's reassuring to know this has happened to others and that it can improve over time. No concerns about…
  • Agreed. Also love zucchini sliced thin and dipped in hummus.
  • My husband bought the Garmin speed/cadence sensors, but I have a barebones Garmin Forerunner 10 that doesn't interface with that technology. Need to figure out a way to use hubby's watch but log the data in my own accounts.
  • Thanks for all the replies! I should have clarified that I have zero concerns about this from a medical standpoint. It's mostly a question that stems from having no athletic background whatsoever. Remember running the mile in gym class? I skipped that every single year. Anyhow, this makes sense now. When I started C25K…
  • This is what I do as well. However, when I used to carry my phone on my runs, I liked my Spibelt.
  • A cup of stir-fry veggies plus 3 servings egg whites all scrambled together. It only adds up to about 100 calories but has 15g protein and makes me feel like I'm having a decent serving of real, hot food. Good for any meal of the day, and you can play around with seasonings.
  • Are you setting the treadmill to at least 1-2% incline? Doing so will engage your glutes more so your hips don't have to do all the work.
  • You may find that the pain is less when running outdoors. Treadmill running can be harder on the body because the motion is so repetitive. I agree good socks can make a difference, as can a 2nd pair of shoes to rotate. Also, perhaps a different lacing pattern on the left foot would help?
  • When was the last time you had your labs drawn? Sometimes pica (think of pregnant women eating dirt or chalk) manifests as an overwhelming urge to eat certain food items. I used to eat ice CONSTANTLY. I'd drive across town to a certain gas station because their drink machine had the best ice cubes. I'd buy a 5 lb. bag of…
