I use Garmin, which then updates to Strava and MFP pretty seemlessly. Only downside is it doesn't include any walking you do in the weekly mileage covered, so you have to say you are doing a run even if you are walking.

I did my first half at 42 without any specific training after I had done a 10k, and didn't it hurt :) A year later, and some proper training, I did my first Ultramarathon of 34 miles!!! I know in my half it was a bit demoralising being overtaken by a Tomato and a Penguin near the end. However, we have done it, and that is…

Cutting back on milk or fruit juice is simply the same as any of us cutting back on the things we enjoy. So whether that is a glass if juice, a slice of cake, or a piece of pizza, they all have calories and if we want to lose weight we will have to cut back somewhere. I'd rather eat my calories, so have cut out coffee, and…

45 myself this year, and although I keep active this New Year I topped the scales at the heaviest I have ever been. I get friends saying "you don't look fat", and I kept listening to them and I just carried on eating badly, and the weight kept slowly creeping up. This year it is stopping, cleared the house of junk, and…

Congrats on doing the half. My first one I did by mistake!! I had just completed a 10K, and my mate just signed me up for the half. Without the extra training it hurt sooooo much. After that though I signed up for a marathon for the next year. Lots of training this time, and now I just love running.

I feel your pain. Same here today 0.5kg (1 lb) put on, been soon good, and tracked everything. How does that happen? I suppose road bumps are expected on the way.

'Enjoyed' a lovely 6 mile off-road run last night. Finally have some cold weather to make the horrible mud freeze, so got back home relatively clean for a change. Was great running in the hills with my dog, the moon out, and the cracking of ice underfoot. Quite enjoyed it for a change.

I am the opposite I just can't stand doing weights. I do like doing BodyPump at my gym though as it is quite high paced weights, low weight high reps stuff, so a nice mix of cardio and weight. Plus if you do a class you can chat with others, mainly before, after you are too knackered lol A good way to get cardio in…

Welcome to MFP Good luck on your weight loss and fitness journey. What sort of exercise are you looking to do?

I think mine is a combination of several others into one complete annoyance package. On a treadmill getting a session done in my own world with earphones clearly in. Then a guy, always a guy, decides to choose the treadmill right next to you even though there are plenty empty. Starts up his session, and decides to start…

Been back healthy eating for 10 days, and can already see, and feel the difference. This morning my snug jeans did feel a lot better around the waist. The next indicator will be using the next hole in the belt :)

I do end up in FF a couple of times a week, not at this time of the year though as it just gets packed. Give it a couple of weeks and people will be back to their old ways and the gym will be free again :)

I tend to avoid all products branded as 'diet'. For two reasons (i) they normally have a price premium for no real reason just because retailers know they can rip you off (ii) a lot contain all sorts of additives which you would never noramlly use in day-to-day cooking. Better off preparing your own versions of these…

Set yourself some mini targets to go for. If you set too big a challenge and you go off track it is all to easy to throw the towel in. Plus making a shorter term target means there is less time for things to go wrong. I normally set targets for a week or a fortnight, such as going to the gym twice this week - so even if…
