10/30 Workout I’m working on strengthening my rotator cuff due to an injury years ago that’s left me prone to dislocation when I lift heavy things above my head, so I have to go really light on workouts like below. I can’t wait till one day I can put up appropriately heavy weights over my head without being worried my…

yep. Also, when you start losing weight the very first fat to go is the fat packed around your organs, inside your body. I saw a really good study once where they looked at the livers of different people. They showed that the liver of somebody who started at like 300 pounds and then lost 25 pounds, bringing them to a still…

the longer you do this the better at it you'll get. Your logging will get more accurate, you'll learn what foods give you the most bang for the caloric-buck, and it will all get easier. Just keep at it, keep learning, keep trying new things. Your story is great, and I'm so invested in it now. Your updates make me as happy…

we should both champion a healthy lifestyle and demonize an unhealthy one. A carrot and a stick is more effecting that just one or the other in isolation.

I like the sound of radical sandwich anarchy. A poptart is a sandwich. I can dig it.

the question was only "should junk food be taxed." The answer is unequivocally "yes." Junk food consumption has negative externalities, therefore it should be taxed. CAN junk food be taxed? Likely the answer is no. There are too many interested aligned against it, and face it, American in particular LOVE being fat,…

This conversation has also mostly revolved around the effect of a tax on consumers. But another equally important factor is the effect it would have on suppliers and retailers. If you tax unhealthy food more than healthy food you reduced demand for it, because you've increased it's cost. The simplest, most reliable…

the problem is less with meals and more with snacks that people supplement meals with, because they're cheap and accessible. potato chips, candy, soft drinks, etc. I love sour patch kids, but they have absolutely no value to me nutritionally. They are the emptiest of empty calories. They don't impact how much or how little…

I would be equally in favor of tax credits or rebates given on healthy foods. As it is the cheapest, most easily accessible, food is also the least healthy. While the healthiest food is comparatively more expensive. Either make unhealthy food more expensive, or healthy food less expensive. I really don't care.

It's completely pointless trying to talk economics to some of you people. What an individual does is completely meaningless in the context of macro economics and tax policy. It doesn't matter if any given individual eats fewer calories if the price of calorie dense, nutrient poor, junk food and candy. What matters is that…

somebody needs to go back and read their own keto literature, because I haven't ever heard any such nonense, even from people like Mark Sisson. A lot of them say that you don't have to count calories, but their reasoning is that if you follow their plan you'll only CRAVE the amount of calories you need, or slightly less.…

I have most of the regular gym equipment in my apartment complex's facility, so I don't need a regular gym. I have been shopping for a CrossFit gym recently though. Some of the things I look for in a good "box" are: Plenty of open space Ability to work out independently, outside of schedule classes Strong sense of…

I went to GNC today to get supplies, and the guy working was like “dude, you trying to get swole on me or what?” He’s seen me roughly every 2 weeks for the last 5 months, during which time I’ve lost 40 pounds. Apparently it’s starting to show.

One of my favorite things in a tv show or movie are kids who curse, but aren’t “bad” kids. Stranger Things is the holy grail.

Well. I completely incinerated the sprouts, but the pork chop and Japanese sweet potato came out perfect.

I’ve been debating buying a bag of the Halloween sized mini bags so I can have a few after I go to the gym, to replenish my glucose stores. Yeah, that’s a thing you’re supposed to do, right?

I vote immune. I’ve stopped eating them almost entirely, maybe have a bag once a month when I feel like cheating at a movie. Now that I’m not eating them on the regular, used to have a bag every time I went to the movies, 2-3 times a week, they definitely taste more sour than I remember.

Americas obesity problem has become a national security threat. A 2014 study found that an appalling 71% of 17-24 year olds were ineligible for military service. Mostly because they were too fat. America's widespread obesity problems, poor access to healthcare, and overall toxic lifestyle choices are a drain on our economy…

Look at high-level women in CrossFit. They hate cardio, watch the CrossFit games, it's hilarious, the top athletes run like 8 minute miles, for 2 miles at most. Heck, in the 2016 CrossFit games documentary Dave Castro, the games' director, has a hilarious moment where he's talking about programming for the games and he…
