  • It's almost gone but a bit of tightening up won't go amiss. Cycling just doesn't do much for that area.
  • Sitting there thinking about it will make it worse. Drink two large glasses of water and go do something else, a long walk perhaps with a bottle of water but no snacks on the way! ;)
  • Just a note to mention that I reached my target weight of 80kg this week. I am switching my goals to maintenance on a sedentary lifestyle to see how that goes first. I shall continue my cycling and dog walking regimes because I enjoy them so much so the 'sedentary' setting will probably not be sufficient but I'd rather…
  • Thank you all. I feel good. I wish I hadn't thrown out all those smaller clothes not so long ago. Baggy is me at the moment! ;)
  • Thanks.
  • I'm now just less than a kilo off my target weight. The 'love handles' are substantially reduced. I guess that if I continue to exercise after reaching target weight the flaps will disappear.
  • I am in a similar position to the OP. I am just 2kg (4lbs) away from target and I have been thinking a lot about it. In the 4 months it has taken me to lose the 15kg (35lbs) I have thoroughly enjoyed getting back to cycling 30-40km and walking the dogs for an hour every day and want to continue that. If anything I have…
  • Hehehe. That describes my situation perfectly! When I reach my goal I will have to review my exercise schedule (walking and cycling at the moment) so I will take into account some of the other exercises mentioned above. I do love my walking and cycling though. At my age I don't think I'm going to spend money on surgery. My…
  • Well, patience is working as you say. Now down 11.5kg (25lbs) and while I still have skin flaps they have reduced considerably. I am now within 3kg of my target weight so I am more confident that by then I will have lost most of it and continued exercise will hopefully do the rest.
  • Thanks both. I just finished a bike ride of 45km (28 miles). My total distance for February is 473km (296 miles). At my weigh-in today I have lost 11.2 kg (25lbs) in under 3 months. I am just 9lbs off my target weight and I'm wondering how to put the brakes on when I do reach my goal. I won't stop cycling because I love…
  • Some wonderful and inspiring posts from people 'of our age'. Thanks and keep them coming. Update: Yesterday's weigh-in showed I have lost 9 kg (about 20 lbs) in just over 2 months. I'm happy with that. Just another 6 kg to go to my optimum BMI.
  • I do allow myself just half a liqueur glass of anis before bed. It helps me sleep!
  • Daily I do 4km (2.5 miles) walking with the dogs in the morning. Then 25km (16 miles) cycling in the afternoon. Calorie burn 1000 - 1200 per day on exercise. So far 9 kg (20 lbs) lost in just under 11 weeks (including Christmas/New Year period).
  • Camo_xxx: How does your setup compare with a straight Strava measurement?
  • January 427 km (267 miles) cycling + ~90 km static bike in gym. February target 550 km cycling.
  • Thanks for all the advice and encouragement. To answer some of the queries: yes, I am meticulous about weighing/measuring my food/calories. I am not eating back any of my exercise calories most days and very few if I do. Exercise calories measured by Mapmywalk and Mapmyride apps. Food calories measured from MFP database.…
  • Thanks both. It´s correct that I was taught. When I gain weight it mainly goes into a big gut plus a puffy face and hands. The gut has reduced significantly causing the flappy skin. I was wondering if a few sit-ups or similar exercise might help.
  • I did reasonably well. I surprised myself. Christmas Eve -367, Christmas Day +900. They are guestimates because I used MFP generic meals to calculate what I ate. I also fell off the wagon with 2 glasses of wine Christmas Eve and a glass of champagne and a Baileys Christmas day (calories included in the above). We'll see…
  • Happy Christmas to you all. After 33 days I have lost just over 5kg (11lbs) and I am feeling very well and very positive. It is 9am here in Spain and I was up at 7.30 and have walked with the dogs for the dawn hour here. Nice and crisp and a bit misty. A lovely Christmas morning. At a Christmas eve party last night I did…
  • I will walk the dogs earlier than usual tomorrow morning, that's 2-3 miles, so that I can get my 12 mile cycle ride in before our Christmas lunch with friends. That gives me 2500+ cal allowance to eat. I have foregone alcohol for a month now and don't miss it so I shall drink water in my wine glass during the afternoon. I…
  • Good to hear from you both. I have maintained my calorie intake control usually coming in under my limit. My weigh continues to fall slowly and I have not drunk any alcohol. After my ride this afternoon on a cold, windy but sunny Sunday I feel great and I'm beginning to notice my weight loss.
  • Wow! Am I really the oldest participant here?
  • I know I drink too much and, in the past, have found that cutting out alcohol entirely accelerates my weight loss dramatically. In my current plan I have not reduced alcohol but have included it in my calorie calculations and made allowances for it so I am always within my plan. However, having read this thread it has…
  • Look at the big online cycling gear stores and just browse winter/wet weather clothing. Choose the stuff that covers your particular needs. Over the years I have built up an odd collection of stuff but it all has a purpose and does its job. I'd get laughed out of many cycling clubs for my appearance but, hey, I'm 70 years…
  • Yep, that just about sums it up. I would add that once you exercise more then those endorphins make you feel great and are one addictive thing that IS good for you.
