  • Thank you so much for this! This is exactly what I’m trying to tell myself. It’s immensely comforting to know your experience that most/many of such ‘growths’ are benign. That may well get me through mentally the next few weeks until the biopsy yields a result. 😊
  • An update - I’ve seen an ENT consultant today, who put a camera up my nose and into my throat. 😱 Least said about that procedure the better! Outcome is, there is a growth in my Larynx that needs to be excised and sent to Histology. Benign polyp or cancer? Biopsy probably scheduled for this Friday. I apologise for sharing…
  • Thanks for this, I’ve come across this as a cause for chronic laryngitis during my research and all but ruled it out because I have literally no symptom other than the voice loss, nor any of the lifestyle risk factors. Never say never, but I’d be truly surprised if I turn out to be wrong! In some ways that’s part of the…
  • An update: After trying (and failing) again to get a GP appointment yesterday my husband got hold of his employer’s health insurance provider who eventually put us in touch with a related scheme/company called ‘Doctor Care Anywhere’. After jumping through some very frustrating hoops in order to validate my identity and…
  • Thank you for your comments. @Athijade particularly, really interested in your experience. That definitely jibes with how I feel. I have never been someone who is susceptible to the common cold or similar upper respiratory tract issues but it is somewhat reassuring to hear that it may not be all in my head! I did just…
  • Activity 100% is harder to maintain than nutrition! Some of that is weather based in the winter…I don’t mind cold but who wants to go out and walk in the rain? I live in rural England so gyms are not ‘local’ and I’m really not the Gym type of person anyway. I don’t really do well with ‘group activity’ of any sort.…
  • I’ve had a tin of Lebanese style beans & chickpeas that I picked up, in either Aldi or Lidl, probably 6 months ago because I was curious. Then didn’t quite know what they actually were or what to do with them. Bit the bullet last night and opened the can…added baby plum tomatoes, lemon juice & parsley as the label…
  • Add me to the fans of this style of bread. I try to only buy it occasionally because I could just nibble my way through a packet very quickly! Currently I have a minor obsession with Beetroot & Horseradish combinations.
  • I sincerely wish I had the personality type to meal prep or plan! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve told myself it’s what I need to do…but it’s just not ever going to be me. I’m impulsive and contrary - if I do pre-plan it’s a sure fire way for me to go off my calorie target. Knowing what I ‘have’ to eat makes me not…
  • Roasted Brussel Sprouts & Sweet Potatoes with a Skyr Dijon & Honey Dip.
  • That’s how we do it in the UK too. Much easier to do a like for like comparison when standing in the supermarket if you can see the per 100g numbers.
  • Beetroot Dhal, Cauliflower, Broccoli & Runner Beans - was too impatient to cook a little rice so put together some leftover Cannellini Beans and a little leftover Katsu Sauce to top up to the calories I needed for dinner. Surprisingly good combination!
  • I literally (in it’s true sense) never drink water. Just don’t find it easy to do. Black coffee, occasional black tea, salad veg, vegetables, soup, food in general, even the odd glass of wine…provide all the hydration I need. Other than first time in the day my urine is clear pale yellow, indicating adequate hydration. I…
  • First foray into Fennel! Not a veg I’ve had before - here it is roasted with Lemon zest & juice, garlic, capers and chilli flakes. Then tossed with pasta, 50% fat creme fraiche and topped with Parmesan and Fennel fronds.
  • That’s such a good idea, @acpgee, don’t know why I’ve never thought of it before! I generally use snow peas in stir fry type dishes and love them, I rarely eat peas as a side vegetable (too boring) but use them in pasta dishes and to bulk up rice for chilli or curry style meals. Mixing the two seems like an interesting…
  • I use wasabi in Beetroot soup. Also in a chopped Egg mixture for stuffing in a pitta with salad veg. I often use it mixed through Skyr as a dressing for roasted vegetables - especially good with roasted Sweet Potatoes or Brussel Sprouts. Basically, anywhere I might use standard Horseradish or Mustards, to ring the changes.…
  • I’ve been reading news reports about the sorry state of fresh produce lately and was wondering if it was just another media ‘OMG let’s all panic’ exaggeration here in the U.K.. But, here’s a photo of what I saw today at my local, preferred supermarket Mildly terrifying to someone whose diet is at least 80% entirely…
  • I’d agree with most here, I find 15g of a good flavourful cheese to be more than enough for an entire omelette. Even for me, as a short, older female that’s not hard to fit into my calorie goal, not everyday, because I have other things I’d rather eat, but I do cook a cheese and tomato or cheese and spinach omelette from…
  • I voted ‘No’ for the reasons others have mentioned, it’s in your general activity level setting, mostly. But! Try being a 5ft woman and wrestling a king size duvet into a fresh duvet cover and tell me it’s not strenuous and doesn’t raise your heart rate and make you sweat! 😂 I’ve been known to say it should be an Olympic…
  • If the container has a lid I remove the inner sealed film completely. I agree that, once peeled away from the edges it interferes with the seal of the outer lid. Which is all well and good, but here in the U.K. the move is being made to save plastic waste and many, many of these containers no longer have the outer lid at…
  • I love Celery! Raw, cooked (as long as it still has ‘bite’). Loved it as a child, love it now… It doesn’t need anything added, it’s fine as it is, crunchy, refreshing and really tasty! Love it in a three bean salad (kidney, broad & green beans, red onion and celery), also very finely sliced in coleslaw. With apples and…
  • 33 calorie Tortillas (made with soaked Quinoa) topped with super low calorie homemade coleslaw. Taco spiced onions, peppers & borlotti beans, Mexican chilli cheddar, skyr and Avocado Hot Sauce. 😋
  • Pasta with a Cajun spiced Butternut Squash sauce with Spinach. I’ve had portions of the sauce in the freezer for a while and kept passing on them because I thought I remembered it as not being very tasty. Must have been a previous batch I had in mind because this turned out to be delicious! 😂 Wish I had more than one left…
  • Next time try searching for ‘whole cloves’ - seems to bring up the right entries. 😊 Also, ‘black peppercorns’ brings up a number of correct entries. I didn’t try searching them as ‘pepper corns’ but it doesn’t surprise me if that doesn’t work so well! 🤷‍♀️
  • I’m well known in my family for winging it! A common criticism is that I can’t necessarily replicate a dish they’ve really raved about because I don’t really know what I did! Having said that I am always searching for recipes (mainly on Pinterest) as inspiration - don’t often follow one but it’s good to see the basic…
  • You need to give us more information! ‘required calories’? What number are you talking about, and where did you get that number? If you’re talking about the number MFP has suggested based on the information you’ve given it then, if you stick to that number (weighing on a kitchen scale and choosing accurate database entries…
  • Absolutely! I sanity check every single ingredient when I import a recipe, replacing almost all of them with the brand (or supermarket name for fresh goods) checking the nutritional info is as complete as possible - there are limitations based on where in the world you live, as to what is listed on nutrition panels on…
  • Quinoa Tortillas (total revelation - raw quinoa & water, super flexible and pliable, tasty and protein forward), onions, peppers, beans, super low calorie coleslaw, salsa and mexicana cheese.
