It does have the HR monitor built in, but honestly not sure about waterproof. It is IP67 rated so it can handle shallow water for a little while, but I never wore it to swim.

If you are looking for something discrete you could go with the One which you could drop in your pocket or the Zip which you can hook on your pocket or on your bra strap under your shirt (this is how my daughter, wife, mom and mother in law use it) and those are like $50.

I had the Samsung Gear Fit and LOVED IT! I now have an iPhone so went with the Charge, but honestly I miss my Gear Fit. I sold mine on eBay for $80 in mint condition so that could be an option.

My wife was up late one night and bought it, but once we got it and read everthing she decided not to do it. It certrainly seemed restrictive and we are looking for a long term dietary change and not some crash diet that we would gain the weight back as soon as we eat a piece of bread or a side of pasta.

I hate my Firbit. Everytime I want to see what time it is it tells me I haven't walked enough :p Seriously though I have had the Fitbit for two years or so and I would lose my mind without it honestly. Surprisingly most motorist are very good with people sharing the road on bikes so go for it. Make sure your helmet is on tight, get a helmet mounted mirror (trust me!) and YES hand signals still work well! Be safe.

If you can find an elliptical machine I would try that. Low impact and can burn calories like crazy! I look like a newborn giraffe when I get on, but can feel it working within minutes.
