  • You guys are awesome, some really great ideas in here that i definitely plan on trying! Thanks so much!
  • Learned that carbs are a really touchy topic on this site? Learned to not get involved in discussions like this in the future? Yes, I'm sure.
  • No kidding, definitely learned my lesson.
  • I don't really agree. I said I've never been a big fish person, not that I hated fish. There are times in my life I've enjoyed eating fish and so I'm pretty confident there are recipes I can make myself where I'd like it, so figured I'd ask what other people have had success with. But thanks for your contribution.
  • Haha, no. I was oversimplifying it. By "white" she mostly meant refined white flour-type carbs and that brown rice is more nutrient dense than white (I know, the difference is not drastic) and specifically with the sweet potato the high content of vitamin A and C. I can assure you she never told us to avoid any of the…
  • Yikes just saw all these replies. Sorry guys, guess I was just channeling my nutrition professor stressing against all the "white" carbs.
  • I've grown to LOVE my wine over the past couple years and even appreciate beer when I always hated it before. But it's hard for me to justify the calories so I'm trying to really cut down now!
  • You can do this, and you certainly deserve to be happy, especially with yourself. Just know that his words were not based on truth, they were based on controlling you. Now that he's gone his words have no power. Try to believe that. I know how hard it is to try to better yourself when you're depressed, it's really easy to…
  • I've never experienced that myself, and I'm not sure how eating better for only a few days would cause such a reaction. Maybe you're getting sick, but if you're seriously concerned about it then yes you should see your doctor.
  • That's interesting, I remember years ago a co-worker of mine told me that her favorite way to cook fish was to bake it in milk. I never actually tried it. Thanks! Edit 'cause i just saw your other post - I LOVE onion so I think I'll try keeping it on and see where that takes me. ;)
  • I like almost anything, honestly. I certainly didn't get fat by being a picky eater, so yeah I'm sure I can eat tons of other things that can be considered healthy. But I don't know, I just feel like there are benefits to eating fish and I always like to give things a shot so I guess that's why I'm interested in finding…
  • No i didn't see that, but looking through it almost all the posts are about shellfish, which I certainly don't have a problem enjoying (especially shrimp). There were a couple of actual fish ideas in there though, thanks!
  • I don't typically have an issue falling asleep but I can't seem to stay asleep past 4:30am anymore.
  • I'd love to lose around 40lbs by summertime myself. Maybe I can actually wear a bathing suit at the beach for the first time since i was a kid!
  • Awesome job!! I'm kind of in the same place. I lost 40 lbs in just a few months' time like 2 years ago and ever since then my weight just wavered back and forth 10 lbs. Trying to get back on track and lose that second half.
  • Are you tracking calories? No matter how healthy the foods are that you eat, if you eat too many calories worth of them you will gain weight.
  • I've been off and on for a long time now, and some days are easier than others. Lately I've been pretty good though!
  • I'm looking to lose about the same amount of weight. I agree with the other posters you don't look bad, but it is about being healthy and happy with yourself!
  • I have always had trouble getting enough potassium myself. I ended up buying "no salt" salt substitute which for reasons I'm not sure of has tons more potassium than any supplement i could find. I use a bit of that here and there, the taste isn't bad in my opinion.
  • Probably brown or wild rice is better than couscous I'd think. Otherwise you can have something like sweet potato, or try to incorporate more fruits into the day.
  • Not Massachusetts, but still New England! NY here.
  • You all look so wonderful, this is truly inspirational.
  • Sometimes it's hard to see a difference in ourselves, but as an outsider I can definitely see it!
  • Thanks for the encouragement, guys. I'm hoping this "sense of community" feeling helps me be successful, as well as being held accountable and having strangers watch my progress (or lack thereof), haha. ;)
  • This is me at my heaviest, probably 218 or 220 here (I'm 5'1") This is me about 40 lbs lighter at 177 (edited to substitute a higher quality picture)
  • I know several people have already said it, but I'm going to echo what they're saying about eating lower carb. When I was my strictest with eating low carb (still watching calories too, so I typically never went over 1500cal a day) I almost never felt hungry. Carbs really trigger that "hunger" feeling, more than I ever…
  • I can understand where you're coming from. I'm living at home while I get myself through school and while my family is supportive of a healthy lifestyle (generally speaking), they don't particularly live it themselves and they certainly haven't changed their habits. Therefore, I am constantly surrounded by a plethora of…
  • Sounds like an awful outing. :( I know I've been in groups where someone will start a conversation badmouthing fat people and it's supremely uncomfortable. Really makes you think what people are saying when you're not around. As far as the marriage thing, please. There are any number of reasons why someone wouldn't be…
