Ha ha.... Yes, cwolfman13! That is the military diet. Well, actually my first introduction to a "military diet" was..... Shovel as much food into your mouth as you can in 5 minutes while being yelled at to get up and leave by a guy in a Smokey the Bear hat!

Another thing to take into consideration is how much fruit/veggies it takes to get a cup of juice. A banana, two oranges, an apple, half a pineapple, some kale, etc. (I'm exaggerating a little, much not much). I think to myself, "Would I ever be able to eat that much food in one sitting?" Plus, when you juice, you…

If you do try liquefying your meals, make them smoothies and not juice. Keep the fiber intact :)

Be VERY wary of Tonic Water.... it may taste like it doesn't have a lot of calories, but it does! I think it is 100 calories per 8 oz or something. Stick with club soda, it is calorie free! I like to do Tanqueray Rangpur Gin with soda water and a squeeze of lime. So refreshing! Cheers!!

I have always wondered this too.... I have never really paid much attention to such things until recently, but I have read that you want to balance your ratios of Omega-3s and Omega-6s to 4:1 or less. Supposedly, getting to much omega-6 fats increases inflammation in bodily tissues. And a typical Western diet is way over…

I agree that you should probably start slowly. I had this issue too when I started running after being fairly sedentary for years. My joints were like "WTF are you doing?!". So I had to tone it down and give those joints and muscles a chance to build their strength back. I am not sure of your weight/activity level, but…

Dang it! Why can't I figure out the quotes!?!! Dang noob!
And that's fine that you believe that. I just happen to disagree. If you do it right, I don't think there is any reason to see a professional since you should really only be eating a little bit below your TDEE anyway. Maybe a dietician if you are having issues losing weight, but most definitely not a nutritionist.…
without knowing the context of said 1200 calorie diet is impossible to know...
I agree.... But I can see what the OP is saying. For example, I am trying to stay close to 1200 calories on my diet, but I am also doing fairly low-carb (no comments from the peanut gallery please, it is working for me!). I have…

Well... very sound advice then! I hope the person that posted that reads your thread! I guess it shows that we all have different levels of knowledge when it come to health and nutrition. Hopefully people can be willing to learn from each other and make wise decisions :)

I agree that if someone is going to go to that much of an extreme, they should talk to a dietician, as I think they probably don't have a clue. And I also agree that taking a multi-vitamin when on a severely restrictive diet is probably a good idea.

This does not make a lot of sense to me.... Why would someone purposefully remove vitamins from their diet? Do you mean someone wanted to remove "calorically dense" foods from their diet? Say... avocados? Or peanut butter? Thereby the vitamins in those foods got removed and now they should supplement?

I agree with the folks that are saying not to go cold-turkey. This will set you up for the nasty withdrawal symptoms it sounds like you already had to deal with once. I am a little on the OCD side, but if I was in this situation I might make a plan of attack on how to cut down. I would try printing a 6 month calendar (or…

I have run into this problem as well, but I think it is important to "re-fuel" a little bit after such a calorie burn. Most people have peanut-butter, bread, milk, apples, carrots, etc. as they are common staples in a pantry/fridge. Something like half a piece of toast with a Tbsp of PB and a glass of milk will go a long…

I ate more than my daily allotment of calories in peanut butter and Lindor truffles during the course of about 15 minutes.... Then I figured if I didn't log it, it never happened! D'Oh! >.<

I agree with both posts by RGv2.... You can't "spot treat" an area. I know from experience too :( However, strengthening your core muscles will help burn some calories. I like to do planks all the time and have noticed a stronger core because of it. Give some a try and good luck!

Complex vs. Simple Carbohydrates: Well, I am not a nutritionist or an expert on the subject; however, I will explain how I have come to understand it. Complex carbs have longer molecular chains of sugars and therefore take the body longer to break down and absorb into the blood stream. This will, in turn, promote a more…

I agree with everything martyqueen52 said.... juicing concentrates all the natural sugars in the fruit and veggies while stripping the fiber that keeps you full. When yiu juice, yiu are probably going through pounds of food right? Would you ever be able to eat that much in a sitting? Thats how I think of it when I get…

If you are trying to watch your carb and sugar intake, stick to mostly vegetables, lean proteins, eggs, nuts, seeds, etc. All of those choices are "relatively" low in sugar, thus carbohydates. Be sure to include some carbohydates though, as they are necessay for a balanced diet. Ensure the carbs you do eat are complex…

Lol Roxiegirl2008.... I thought the same thing, " Sounds like something Kim K would make up"! I agree with others that it could probably do permenant damage to your internal organs. Sounds like it could cause a bowel obstruction or something.... yikes! Someone else posted about the rubber waist bands that help shed water…

I agree with atomicloser... try looking into a digestive enzyme. I take a broad spectrum one with pretty much every meal and it really helps. I have had problems for over a year now and I am constantly trying to find things that help. Also look at the ingredients in your cereals and energy bars. Do they have Inulin…

I agree about the Naked drinks.... They pack a large amount of calories for a beverage! I found myself drinking them all the time a while back and I swear I gained a little weight. They are pretty much pure fructose. I think they can be helpful in moderation or if you use one as a meal/snack replacement. But I wouldn't…

I too love greek yogurt! I go for the Chobani Plain, Non-Fat because I am watching my sugar intake. But if you are not worried about sugars, try one of the flavored kinds. Greek yogurt has about twice the protein of regular yogurts. I also eat a lot off egg whites (hard boiled or in omelets). They are pretty much pure…

I think it kind of depends on your fitness level too..... Are you athletic and work out HARD during your periods of exercise? Are you are a runner or trying to body build? If that is the case than cutting out carbs would be very detrimental to your health and overall goals. However, are you sedentary? Do you work a desk…
LOLOL omg...flashback to chow hall LOL thanks for the smile :)
I knew someone would get a kick out of that! ;) Lol....

My first "military diet" consisted of.... Shovel as much food into your mouth as you can in five minutes while being yelled at to get up and leave! Ha ha... Then as soon as that was over, I was told to go run 3 miles. As far as the "military diet" that is making it's rounds now.... I agree with chivalryder....

Awesome... Thank you for the advice!
