I have about 40 lbs to lose and there are about 42 weeks left this year. Is it ok if i join now?

Never been on msg boards before. Using mfp has worked for me when I use it but cannot seem to ever stick with it. Similarly would like to lose 40 lbs on a gradual basis, 1 lb per week basis. Using mfp to stick to net 1850 cal per day diet has worked for me before.
