The easiest way is just to send friend requests to people who seem to have something in common with you. I'm 58, have been here for 4 years but can always use a new friend or two, lost 28 lbs and gained some back--currently am trying to lose about 7-8lbs ...again.... Sending you both a friend request.

Getting enough dietary potassium can be helpful for blood pressure. Some good sources are squashes of all kinds, potatoes, bananas, mushrooms...eat lots of veggies! It can be tricky tracking your potassium intake here because the US doesn't require potassium content on food labels, so you have to hunt for entries that may…

Way better shoes for walking and running and clothes that fit as I lost to reward/motivate me.
-
Yeah, ACV made mine worse, too.

Mine developed rather suddenly when I'd gained weight rather suddenly, but when I lost the weight, it didn't go away. Probably it's more age-related in my case, but it's very frustrating. It is, generally, better, though, the lighter I am and the less I eat.

I'm almost 58 and have less to lose, having been on MFP a few years already. But I've been going through the health care crises and death of both of my parents for the last 4 years...regaining badly since my mom died during the holidays, leaving me with 10lbs of my original 28 lb goal to lose again. I garden, I cook vegan…

Hoping the doctor gets you set up with a dietitian for this and amazed that s/he didn't already.

About to turn 58 and have been on MFP sort of maintaining a 28lb loss and sort of backsliding 10 of those lbs for over 4 years now. Losing weight and getting active make such a huge difference, in my experience, but there are times when the aches and pains predominate, for sure.

Going to try this. Daiya has a new vegan ranch dressing, which I love, as well.

I'd characterize my cooking as low-effort vegan, so it's not fancy, but if you are burned-out, maybe that's the kind of cooking to try... My favorites right now are chopped, roasted Brussels sprouts, Butternut squash and Pink Lady apples (on parchment, no oil), lentils cooked in broth/water with shredded cabbage and…

tbh, most of my cooking is super speedy, low-effort vegan. I'd love to exchange recipes, though. My favorites right now are roasted Brussels sprouts, Butternut squash and Pink Lady apples (on parchment, no oil), lentils cooked in broth/water with shredded cabbage and fermented cabbage/sauerkraut stirred in before serving,…

I usually add it to soups or make a sandwich out of it with a little tamari or miso or even ketchup and mustard.

You don't even have to give up your favorite snacks; just make sure the amount you eat, calorie-wise, fits into your daily allowance. I've been here 4 years and have had my ups and downs (currently in a rough patch), but sticking around is what keeps me from backsliding all the way. Feel free to add me if you are an…

Sending you a request.

If you're looking for friends and meatless food ideas, I have an open diary and am a vegan-leaning vegetarian.

Happy anniversary! I just passed my 4 year anniversary here. I've kept most of the weight I lost off but struggle to stay at/return to my goal about 8 lbs away.
-
That's terrific! I've been here 4 years, and I'm still grateful for all this site has taught me about my diet.
-
You can both be my friends if you like. I'm 57, almost 58, and have been on MFP for 4 years. It's helped so much, but I'm sort of always trying to take off the last lbs, over and over and over.
-
Yes! Make some good friends and check in with them every day to encourage each other and make this fun.

I'm 57. Sending you a request.

My scale can vary by up to 5 lbs depending on where on our bathroom floor I place it. I keep it just close enough to the wall that I can get on without my nose hitting the wall and avoid moving it. but if that's not the problem, I'd listen to the above posters.

Don't let them near you if you can manage it, hide them if someone else in the house insists on having them around, and fill up on healthy foods so when you do come across the unhealthy stuff, you aren't tempted so much.

I think most of us here are in the same boat, so there's nothing to be embarrassed about. All of us want to improve. I've lost 28 lbs (though I've kept only 22 off --have been working on regaining the last lbs for about 3 years now) with walking and yard work as my main exercise. I just don't like running for more than…

You are for sure not alone! I don't have RA, but all my joints and my feet hurt when i was 28 lbs overweight. Walking felt awful. Within 15 lbs the pain was much, much better. Pain-free is incentive!

Same here with sweets and husband uninterested in diet and exercise. Hopefully once those pounds start coming off you won't be out of breath anymore. Have you checked with a doctor about the cause, just in case?
-
I started gaining at age 50 and joined mfp 4 years ago. I'm 57 now and have kept around 22 lbs off, though I go up and down a bit with an additional 5-8 lbs I originally lost. It's still a win. The body sure changes at this age, doesn't it? Feel free to friend me.

Eating vegan, I changed my settings for protein, iron, potassium, vitamins A and C. I don't even worry about carbs, as long as they are healthy, whole food carbs (not sugar or white flour, etc). I tend to eat slightly over on fat (2 T. of almond butter a day), and may have to give that up to lose. But if you are trying to…

Once you lose some weight, you may find that exercise is more appealing to you and easier to do. But in the meantime, just do what you can.

I agree with Lynn, legumes are ideal. Lentils cook up quickly and can be made into soups. My favorite right now is adding chopped, oven- roasted red peppers and eggplants (no oil) and some spinach to lentils and veggie broth. Tempeh is a useful soybean-based product you can use in many ways, adding it to soups and stews.…

57 here. It's never too late to make improvements!
