  • DC rainmaker has some great reviews of health/fitness stuff and he NEVER recommends heart rate/calorie info from something on your wrist on a bike ride. Far too many fluctuations - if you want to measure heart rate on a bike ride go for a chest strap.
  • Theres picky and then there's picky! Your husband eats carrots, celery, spinach..thats not picky at all, thats great ! I, on the other hand ARE picky...I hate any veg, completely get where your husband is coming from re texture, carrots yuck, spinach yuck, celery, urghh..i'm about Ok with cucumber and iceburg lettuce but…
  • Can I ask what sort of repair spray it was? I suffer from similar problems, struggle getting tyres off and back on etc and have just bought a BAM by Muc-off (I'm in UK) to help. Apparently just attach this to the tyre/tube and inflate and it at least gets you home, wondering if its something similar to what you have?
  • You say you decided to stop from soda, and you did it, so how? why not use the same reasoning to stop from any other food you become addicted to?
  • I never knew pops were so low, game changer for me as a very small pack of crisps is normally 120 :-)
  • Genuine question ninerbiff, I always thought brown rice was 'healthier', and a very quick google suggest it is - are you saying its not? "Brown rice is a whole grain. That means it contains all parts of the grain — including the fibrous bran, the nutritious germ and the carb-rich endosperm. White rice, on the other hand,…
  • Northumberland born and bred. Did really well this time last year by stopping the alcohol and cycling more, but life gets in the way (partner left me) and had a bit of a hard time and returned to the dreaded drink. Today take back control (haha, where have we brits heard that before) and go back to no alcohol, done it…
  • Hiya, up in the frozen wastes of Northumberland here (actually, its lovely). Want/need to lose couple of stone just to make my cycling easier on the knees ! Oh and to bring my blood pressure down as well ...
  • My rides are recorded on Garmin connect which syncs with Strava and MFP, but its the Garmin that sends the data to MFP, not Strava. Works seamlessly :-)
  • I ride more than I come on MFP to be honest, but that needs to change with recent BP readings! So expect me on here a bit more, but still out riding my bike when I can ;-)

  • Budget is a major factor here, how much you willing to spend? For me, tried the Jabra elite65t (I cycle) but found the 'hearthrough' was not particularly effective (lets you hear the outside world, prime importance when cycling). So after reading some reviews which said a few were not happy with the 65t's, went for the…
  • Northumberland close enough for you :-)
  • Well, mine seems a bit weird, as in its much lower than I would expect it to be. I'm 51, just under 14st and feel fat and unfit. Blood pressure is always high and I struggle to bring it under control naturally and when looking at the Garmin I expected RHR to be high 60's but its not, its 52. it's been much lower though, I…
  • Hi, dont post very often but lurk a lot on MFP for advice etc. Has been in the back of my mind for a while that I am drinking too much, came to a head last Wednesday when (on a school night) had 10 cans (and a takeaway Indians, which no way would I have had if it hadn't had been for the alcohol). This was the culmination…
  • Not sure 50 55 170 Not sure Interesting to see others of a similar age...
  • How are you reading your HR? You say your Garmin tells you - is that from a watch/wrist based device? these can give terrible results for cycling...running they seem to be fine but for cycling the date from a wrist based device is all over the place (See Dc rainmakaers website, click on any review for a wearable and scroll…
  • Ok, rarely post on here but cycling is my only form of exercise and love it, so might as well try and keep up on this. Was planning to go out today but I wont go out in winds of over 18mph, which they were here (N E England) and tbh I'm gutted. Sitting here on the computer and I feel fat and lazy and wished I had just done…
  • Breakfast: Frozen Dole fruit with breakfast topper and a smidgen of dark chocolate drops Lunch: Spinach/toms/cucumber/onion/pepper salad with cheese Dinner Chicken breast (marinated)/spinach/toms/ jacket potatoe Snack: anything handy, normally have around 200 cals to play with
  • Love cycling - its the only source of exercise I get now after bad knees put a stop to the football/cricket I used to do. I know you cant out run (out cycle?) a bad diet but its nice to go out for an evening ride and see, because of the exercise, you have enough calories left for that treat :-) Turn 50 in 3 weeks and…
  • I think, for me personally, the free bit is great for just losing weight. If (when) I want to delve further and look at my macros then I may consider the premium version as worth it as I think it lets you take a closer look at the food you consume
  • Check out DC Rainmaker (as in the link provided earlier). his reviews are absolutely crack on for any tech stuff (and he covers swimming wearables as well).
  • Had the same problem with McCain microwave jacket potatoes, cant find potassium levels anywhere :-(
  • Cycling? I had knee pain as well and thought cycling was out the question, but tried it and whatever knee pain I had did not effect the ability to turnth pedals :-)
  • Should work ok, cant think why it doesnt but know thats not much help. if you have a Garmin device, its better (in my opinion) to connect the Garmin to MFP (and you certainly dont want to connect the Garmin AND Strava )...
  • I'm in a similar position, bad knees that mean I cant do any sort of squats, lunges etc. I know my glutes are weak and really need strengthening but how to do it without squats or lunges?? - Watching watching this thread with interest ...
