I would like to join. I am Kathleen, almost 49. I lost a bunch of weight in 2009 and have put it all back on due to laziness. Count me in. I am not quite 50 but I am fully through menopause so I may as well be. I have been working at this since Jan 5, lost 20 so far, 50 to 65 to go depending on when I stop.

This would only be possible once you are a normal weight. Carrying 100 extra pounds will cause your wrist size to be larger.

You can grow muscle on a deficit, you just will not get big muscles. I am so tired of reading the lies on this board about it. Muscles will grow, fat is reduced, people look better. My husband rides a recumbent bike and lifts. He has had surgery and can only lift certain ways but he can bench since he is on his back. He stays quite fit. He does other lifting but some of it is limited weight wise. He likely will need more surgery in the future.

The piece on building muscle in a deficit is blatantly untrue. Go take a physiology class. You can build muscle while losing weight, it just will not be a tremendous amount. Make small steps, best to not try all at once esp with a little baby. Also find something that motivates you, a picture of yourself you like, a smaller pair of jeans, etc. I remind myself of that daily.

Me! I am new as well and would like to lose 75-80 lbs. I have been sick for 4 days though and haven't been eating much but once I kick this, I need to be back in the game.

When I was younger, I lost a bunch of weight because I became quite ill. Then several years ago I lost weight in a healthy way, lots of muscle, great shape. I was 10lbs heavier when I lost it the healthy way and wore 2 pants sizes smaller. Work on some muscle.
