I eat a mainly plant based diet. For proteins I eat beans, nuts, quinoa, tofu and occasionally fish (said it was mainly plant based). Still I count my calories. Eating a vegetarian style diet does not equate to weight loss and can in fact be a source of weight gain if you rely to heavily on pastas, grains and dairy (cheese…

I realize we're half way through the month but ya gotta start somewhere. I drink way to much wine, about a bottle a night and everyday I wake up and say "No more" but night roles around and I settle back into my old routine. I've gone weeks without and feel great but an occasion comes up (like "Oh, isn't that a pretty…

It's really not about a diet, to lose weight. It's a lifestyle change, knowing how to eat, what to eat and when to eat it. It has to be permanent, you've already seen how the other lifestyle works for you. :)

Just get through today and do it well, tomorrow will come in its own time.

Actually beans can be very portable. Mix some cooked rice an beans (I like black beans) together and spread on a tortilla. Sprinkle on some grated cheddar and a little salsa and fold into a burrito. Good stuff :) Oh yeah, you can also make a great mock chicken or tuna salad with chickpeas, google it, there are many recipes…

Hi Stefanie, sorry to hear that you're going through such a difficult time but glad to see that you're working at changing your situation. As for me, I've dealt with IBS (also known as a Spastic Colon) for the past 33 years, food plays a BIG part in how my day goes. I find that not allowing carbs to build up in my system…

I have one scale, bought it about a year ago because I couldn't get an accurate reading on my old one. This new scale reacts the same way. I can step on it 5 times and get a different reading every time. I'd like to stick with the lowest reading, my thought on that is 'how can the scale read less than the weight on it',…

I have come to find that doing what works for me is what works best, for me :) I also have 100 lbs to lose and have been in this head game challenge for a long while. The mind wants me to get in shape, the body tells me it's too much work. I am fighting my bodies impulses to just give up. I don't try to eat my exercise…

Oh, I should also say that I hate cooking. I use to cook, a lot, even ran a successful catering company. Now I'd like to be locked in a room and have a peanut butter sandwich slid under the door until this weight comes off but my family expects more from their mom.

You are all so right! Who needs friends? For all of you who thought I was looking for a "True Companion", "Buddy-Buddy", you missed the boat! But that's alright, having you in my boat makes it just a little to hard to row. I know this will get a lot of negative feedback because that is what so many of you are good at…

Never be afraid to speak your mind :)

Thank you all for you advise. I have rowed in the past so it is something I am familiar with. I'm looking forward to this journey.

Please include me. I could really benefit by being a part of this challenge. Thanks so much :)

What great words of encouragement. The things you have learned are things I will aspire to.

I'm 58 years old, 5'3" and 240 lbs. My goal is to get down to 138-140. I too could really use a motivational cheering squad. Please add me to your MFP list. :)

Yes, great idea, I do the same.

I add slices of cucumber, orange, lemon or just about any fruit to a quart of water in the fridge. That way I always have flavored water.
