  • I would second the mac and cheese idea...comfort food and you can make it as soft as he needs. You can also do some sort of loaded mashed potato...and if you want to get veggies in him, make it with half potato and half cauliflower. I can sneak that one by my family with no issues! Chicken noodle soup might taste good to…
  • It does get better...but it's pretty brutal at first. You definitely weren't drinking enough if you would go all day without any liquid. I like the general rule of taking your body weight, dividing it in half and that's how many ounces you should aim for. Makes more sense to me than a "one size fits all" approach. So...if…
  • I eat apples and eggs all of the time...if I'm not somewhere to weigh it, when I enter apple I get options like "1 medium apple". I know it's not exact but it is at least close enough for that entry. Same with eggs.
  • Hi Shannon! Unfortunately it happens to most of us at some point! Take some time to figure out where you should be at for calories. I often "pretend track" a meal I typically eat or want to eat just to see the calories and decide if it is worth it or not. You can totally do this! Welcome to MFP!
  • I'm on a 1200 calorie per day plan as well but I try and limit my carbs...no breads, pasta, rice, etc for me. I do get some carbs through fruits and veggies but that's about it.
  • Same here...but I do use sugar free creamer and have sugar free werther caramels around for "emergencies". It feels good to get the sugar problem under control! We eat fruit, but no processed sugar.
  • I have a bag of snap peas in my car as we speak...good road munchies!
  • Same here....carbs from fruits, veggies and a little dairy but that's about it!
  • Hi! My biggest problem area is sugar, sweets of any kind really. For me, the best way to combat it was to go cold turkey off of it. I still have fruit but no other sugars (processed kinds). We also went off all of those white carbs...it's hard the first couple of days but then not so hard. I find that not having bread,…
  • Calories in, calories out. Abs are made in the kitchen....you can of course do lots of abdominal work (I love my pilates twice a week) BUT...the best way to lose belly fat is to eat less calories than you burn. Unfortunately, can't spot reduce and sometimes the belly fat comes off last. (that and the inner thighs...ugh!)
  • Welcome all of you! if you don't have a food scale, buy one! weigh and track you food....it is much more accurate to track in ounces or grams than in measuring cup sizes! you can get them on amazon fairly cheap. When in doubt...keep it simple food wise. lean proteins, fruits, veggies....those are the best places to start.…
  • I'm 5'4" and currently 179...working to get down! That being said, the lightest I've been as an adult is 169 and the heaviest 224...It is slow going for sure, but this is a great place to start!
  • Wow! Nice work, congratulations on your success!
  • Nice work! You can definitely see progress!
  • It's a slow process...I think the hardest work is staying motivated through slow losses. BUT losing it slower will set you up more for success. Keep working on the food part...eating within your daily calorie allowance and focusing on building good eating habits for you and your family will set you all up for more success…

  • I hate side planks too...they seem to bother my shoulders more than feeling it in my obliques or abs.
  • Lots of veggies! Last night for example, we made a pork roast and roasted cauliflower and Brussel sprouts...then made a onion gravy to smother it with. It was delicious! If you guys aren't ready to give up pasta...try smaller portions. I remember reading that our way of thinking needs to be a plate that is 1/2 vegetables,…
  • I like that you have a clear plan! The calories seem low and the goal of 3 lbs a week seems high. You will probably be able to start at that rate but it will drop off. The key is to not get discouraged and keep your motivation high. I would recommend taking some "before" pictures...those are always good motivation when the…
  • Good for you! Clearly the link between our physical well being and our mental health is strong. I feel much better too...just better in feeling like I am moving the right direction and am in control of what I am consuming.
  • That's a much safer vice than chocolate! Enjoy!
  • I am 52, eating 1200 calories a day, tracking beautifully....excercising regularly but pretty sedentary otherwise. For me, it's slow...10 lbs in 7 weeks. I also find that what I eat is very important...getting the majority of my calories from lean proteins, fruits and veggies is what makes the scale move the right way!
  • same here...52, have been tracking since 1/1 and am down 10 lbs. More to come!
  • Welcome back! Sweets are my Kryptonite too...I totally cut out sugar 1/1 after going freaking crazy in December. It felt good to get it back under control. I'm now adding it back in very slowly (and staying under my calories). I'll have a piece of chocolate at the end of the day or a few chocolate chips...whatever the day…
  • Daily logger...stayed under my calories 100% since 1/1! Now to just listen to my own advice and celebrate the 1 lb a week pace!
  • grilled chicken breasts, apples, assorted veggies, hummus....all good options! If you don't have a way to refrigerate, you could buy a little cooler ice pack inexpensively...or just freeze a water bottle to use.
  • Feel free...mine is open to friends. Currently I am logging pretty consistently! I don't bother with water, but that's about it.
  • Congratulations on your weight loss! That is awesome! I wish I lived in Fort Worth...I could use a good exercise buddy...someone to get me there when motivation is lacking (like today!)
