  • Just 12.5mi today but an interesting workout: the Sara Martin one on Zwift all about high cadence. Very interesting. YTD now 1744
  • Omg so sorry to hear about your cat that’s just awful! Do you use a weight trend app like Happy Scale? It can be helpful for seeing a downward trend when you might otherwise not realise it’s there. Kind of reassuring and takes the blips out.
  • Could you try and do your treadmill walk a few times a day? Or maybe go outside once and treadmill the other time? Since outdoors has so many mental health benefits too. 20-30mins of waking (even brisk) probably isn’t making much of a relative dent to aid your weight loss although of course it’s beneficial in so many ways…
  • My first trip to the US I was shocked at how sweet the bread is. Really weird. Have you tried a sourdough loaf? That might be less sweetened? It’s good for you too.
  • Or they choose squiffy entries! One friend I frequently notice logging using entries that are highly likely to be significantly under counting eg ‘toast’ as 100cal per - that’s a darn small slice of bread and a very thin smear of low fat spread to achieve 100cal/per. Far more likely to be half as much again at 150cal. Or…
  • Hi OP. I’m going to just ask whether you have lost half a lb or 1-2lbs? Because if it’s the latter then that’s a great sustainable rate of loss. If it’s only 1/2lb then you should be aware of all the things that can influence scale weight, there’s a great thread on it that maybe someone can link. Things like what stage of…
  • Thankfully no blow up but I definitely felt the extra 5% on the FTP bias. The workout was HWBTWTDWH (or something like that! From build me up wk6) ridden on Champs Elysee. Nice 700+ calorie burn. 31miles bringing YTD to 1731
  • @wendsg I saw on Facebook quite a few people saying the pace bots are riding all over the shop. Seems the update has sent them a bit squiffy. I hope it gets resolved. I’m having a bit of a thing for the workouts at the moment so probably a good thing as normally I’m quite keen on riding with the pacers since it requires…
  • What’s the worst that can happen if you try eating back your exercise calories? You’re unlikely to be eating over maintenance ick that you gain. If you find you’ve got more energy and no longer feel sluggish then boom, you’ve got your answer, the overly restrictive calorie intake was the cause. Many people find that…
  • 19 miles including ‘Instant Inferno’ workout on Zwift tonight. Too windy and cold to entice me outside still. 1700miles YTD
  • 35mile Build me Up workout in Zwift tonight bringing YTD to 1681miles
  • Walking is great exercise but it’s also quite time consuming so you need to make sure you log the calories burned that are additional to your BMR not including BMR. And you might find you have to walk quite a long time for one chocolate bar or glass of wine. There’s so many other benefits too though - how good it is for…
  • So long as you didn’t factor in that exercise when you set your activity level then yes, the intention is that you should do. However… many people choose to not eat ALL of them as a way to compensate for the frequent over-estimation of calories burned from activity. A lot of people choose to hear half back. I guess this…
  • Are you trying for too much of a deficit maybe? Perhaps something a little slower would be easier to stick to by being less restrictive?
  • Check out the 2023 cycling challenge and join us over on that thread. Also by all means send me a friend request should you wish. I’ve been shifting some winter insulation to reach ‘race weight’ too, prob 1-4lb left to go.
  • Saturday was a quick spin in Watopia before tri training swim class. Today, Sunday, 20miles in the great outdoors! My first IRL ride of the year. Winter bike needs some TLC, roads were a state and the fog made seeing where I was going difficult (I wear glasses) so not the most successful outing but gave me a taste of…
  • There is some belief that consuming more than 20g protein at any one time is a waste as your body can only use so much and the rest is wasted. I am not clued up on whether this is true or not but you could do a Google and see what you find. Note that’s 20g protein, not the same as 20g chicken or 20g steak.
  • You could weigh on both then go weigh in on public scales eg in local gym or pharmacy or surgery, or at a friends house maybe?
  • Sending warm wishes for a tough day. Be kind to yourself and cut yourself some slack if you’re not bang on goal today; bugger picture and all that.
  • More Zwifting using up the opportunity to get double XP on the TOW catch up week. New YTD 1604mi
  • Pretty sure that’s the same account I was warned off by another user and had started getting messages that didn’t make logical sense eg said one thing but the way the message was written implied another etc I soon blocked/deleted it.
  • I had a PT draw up carb cycling menu plans for me a few years back but I never stuck to it for very long: it was unsustainable in terms of the prep needed, rigid rules, multiple small meals a day not fitting with social activity/work etc and didn’t make me feel more energy for my workouts or lose weight especially. I find…
  • You might feel ‘off your food’ for a day or two post opp anyway so I wouldn’t worry if you’re eating at maintenance or below for a short while post surgery. So long as you’re not majorly starving yourself an depriving your body of nutrition, just go with the flow and certainly don’t stress about eating at maintenance - you…
  • 27 miles of Zwift tonight, riding the ToW Stage 1 A ride again for the double XP. New YTD total 1566mi
  • Super short on time tonight but squeezed in a quick workout on Zwift before dashing off to dinner for work. 12 miles ridden doing the 25 min workout aptly named ‘Calorie Crush’. It’s 5 blocks of multiple short 20second efforts at differing intensities. I quite enjoyed it but after block 2 I wasn’t sure if I’d make all 5!…
  • 24 miles on Zwift just to burn calories, steady zone 2 as the legs are getting tired. Did the ToW catch up Watopias Waistband for the double xp New total 1527mi YTD
  • Could you decide to take up dog sitting? There’s apps that help people to volunteer to walk dogs for the elderly or infirm. I think one is Cinnamon Trust.
  • I’m so glad others pointed out the dangers of judging your own weight loss in the mirror. Be kind to yourself and don’t trust that brain if the scales and the trousers and your pals are all telling you something different!
  • Oh 5000 calorie burn… I wish! Just crunching those calories here with another round of Dust in the Wind, stage 4 A route from Tour of Watopia catch up week. The double xp helps with the levelling up. 33mi brings todays YTD to 1503mi
  • Equally brain-farted yesterday so I have two days to catch up on. Yesterday was pure zone 2 on Zwift distracted by reading one of the epic threads in the debate forum. Today was a 1hour workout called Twelve Spikes. It was good, felt achievable and I pushed hard on the effort spikes. Adding 43mi for a new YTD 1470mi
