  • You definitely lose all over. However, I do have a friend who, because of her workout, realized she was actually gaining inches on her calves and waist. two areas she was working overtime trying to trim. Turns out she's just a person who builds muscle really well. So while doing lots of calf raises and ab crunches, she was…
  • I'm late to this thread and I haven't read past your initial post...so forgive me if I say things everyone else has said. #1. FIND ANOTHER OBGYN. This one is a *kitten*. That was a totally unprofessional attitude and to counsel surgery? To tell you you're GOING to gain weight to the point you can't even bathe? I'm…
  • I suppose the heart rate might be a problem. I'm on 3 blood pressure meds and have an arrhythmia also. My resting heart rate is about 53. Looking at it right now, it says 48. It jumps up pretty quick with movement and the arrhythmia goes away when I get the heart rate high enough (had a stress test several years ago and…
  • That's not the problem. I had one walk register and another not. One was 25 minutes, one was 30. Both were inside on a track. There's no real reason for it that I can see. I'm sure I was going fast enough.
  • With all the discussion about other people's reactions to your new way of eating, especially @bmeadows380 story about her birthday cake, I have to share a conversation I had a few years back with my favorite aunt when my husband and I were at her house and lunch was being served. It started with my cousin making steamed…
  • You sound just like my husband. He has such a sweet tooth and it doesn't last long in our house. An example: He bought a bag of Hershey Kisses and put it up in the cupboard. A week or so later, I wanted chocolate, went looking for the bag - gone. I hadn't gotten even one! I mentioned to him a while back that we should get…
  • I'm 53 and looking to lose 100 for the second time - I gained it back! So yes, accountability is a good thing!
  • Thanks! I'll talk this over with my dietician.
  • What surprises me is just some of the ridiculous search results on this site. I understand that things differ and that people need to be able to adjust the database a bit, but why would anyone NOT just look up the generic and go from there, instead of putting in some ridiculous number? Now, I know Waygu beef is much more,…
  • Thank you. I don't understand why my calorie goal set at 1900 on MFP will throw off my calories burned? Can you explain that - to someone mathematically challenged? :)
  • Ah. Well now it's annoying. :/
  • AWESOME! I'll try it! Thanks SO much!
  • If those are the amounts you are showing on MFP when you input your exercise, uncheck it, fill out something else (but don't enter it) for instance, change the times and length of workout, then erase that and put the correct information back in again. I have found that error myself. Sometimes I'll get like 20 calories for…
  • I weigh and measure and if I don't I at least guess at the measurements as closely as I can and log accordingly. I've lost weight before - and gained it all back. Guess what - I stopped weighing and measuring. I think it's vital to know what the servings should be and you may surprise yourself. As for being "full", I've…
  • I've seen that too. I took it to mean that it's written by an Asian person. It's not like the internet is just for English speakers. :)
  • Hun, I lost 100 lbs. ONE HUNDRED. I gained back 85. :( I SWORE I'd never be this big again. I understand completely.
  • When my doctor put me on Metformin for pre-diabetes. There are no diabetics in my family. It isn't in my genes - it's in my jeans. I ate my way to this, pure and simple.
  • I WISH! LOL No...mine is the same height as me (I actually think I've got an inch on him but he'll NEVER admit that) and, sadly, he's about 30 lbs lighter. :( I'll give you the annoying part. ;) LOL! I am a big woman. Even if I were my "perfect" weight, I'd be bigger than most men at 5'10" and 180 (goal weight). Only 120…
  • At the moment, fitbit says I have 1,274 calories left and MFP says 941. But Fitbit doesn't really list a goal # of calories, just that I need to have a 750 calorie deficit. I have MFP set at 1,900 calories per day, max, per my dietician, who wants my net to be 1,500 or more, which is only a 400 calorie deficit or less.…
  • Tablespoons measure volume and grams measure weight. A tablespoon of powdered sugar won't weigh 15 grams. A tablespoon of salt won't weigh that either. My rule of thumb is to use the measurement on the package if possible. Weigh it if it's in grams or ounces. Measure it if it's in spoons or cups.
  • You know, that's what I thought...but I was told otherwise. My husband's been getting ridiculous calories, like 3900 a day! And, I might add, gaining. So, weird. I kind of give up for now.
  • Oh and ANYTHING in a restaurant! Thank God for Google. I can just ask my phone for nutrition info for wherever and be prepared in advance. How they manage to make things so fattening I'll never know. I know I could re-create half the stuff they sell for less calories.
  • Pastries in general - but especially pie crust. I love to cook and the fact that flour is so calorie rich is bad enough, but add shortening and .... WOW! And I love pie. :'( I love fruit pies, and cream pies, and savory meat pies. Mmmm. Pie! :p Forget sugar substitutes, someone make me a shortening substitute!
  • My husband discovered this...he LOVES ice cream. It was good, but for the price I'm not sure I wouldn't rather just splurge at our local frozen yogurt place every once in a while. Still, I had the peanut butter last night with a squirt of chocolate syrup...YUM. Melty is better. I was thinking it was crazy high with the…
  • But, I wasn't less active than normal. I was just...normal. It showed me at 700 then an hour or so later, showed me at 340, and it was just a normal day...more walking than usual, but I didn't have a higher step count than normal. I think maybe it takes a bit once you've entered exercise on MFP for it to figure out that it…
  • You went 4 months and GAINED? I'd have been a basket case! BRAVO to you for sticking that out! I was in such a mood yesterday it was "poor pitiful me" mode. :/ I was just aching all over. I have some arthritis in my shoulders and I think I overdid on Sunday because I was aching all over and I kind of had been all weekend.…
  • Turning off negatives will still give me a zero if appropriate, right? I don't want to lose calories, but I don't want to have them fluctuate so much. Really, I'd almost rather disconnect the fitbit entirely if it's going to keep doing that.
  • I think I'm feeling so discouraged these days because I seem to work so hard, for so little. I just walked 21 minutes and I get 157 calories. Fitbit gives 202. But still...I'm sweating my butt off - (I wish) for 150 - 200 calories. My morning yogurt is more than that! It's just very discouraging to work that hard for so…
  • Me also. Lost 100 and was 28 lbs from my goal...48 lbs from my ideal weight...and when I saw that 100 lbs gone it was like a switch flipped and I was done. I gained back almost all of it over the last six years. Here I am, starting over. Feel free to add me as a friend.
