Muffins. Muffins are evil. 540 calories for a relatively normal muffin. Also Naan. Now I know why naan tastes so good. It's horrible for ye.

    publix chicken tenders :'(
But they're so good. The frozen "whole grain" ones are much much better macro-wise (I think the only one's better on macros are Trader Joe's). What ticks me off the most is the Red Potato salad is a whopping 19g fat per.

And if I ever had a python (I wouldn't, but if I did), it's name would be "Mr. Cuddles."

Flour pisses me off. Homemade pizza crust (just the crust!) should not be that "spendy".

I make neapolitan style pizza at home. I make a big batch of dough, then separate it into individual balls of 140 grams each. My individual dinner pizza from such a dough ball is around 500 calories after the meat and cheese toppings. That's the meal. You can try making it with cauliflower.

I use tortillas for homemade pizza.

I was at the Music Festival last weekend and there were few food choices so I got a corn dog with mustard. I knew it wasn't the best option at the time, but I was sick of salads. 300 calories. OHG. Thankfully I had the calories to cover it, but next year I'll bring a sack lunch.

I would usually budget that much or more, but I was very hungry and I ate two. Oops. And the worst of it was that they didn't even taste that good.
I volunteer every year at this same festival and it is at a Casino where they have awesome buffets. But they use the buffet room as a music venue, so that option is closed during the festival.

Was there a food that you looked up and were shocked at the amount of calories it contained?

For me, it happened last night. I have those little 3 ounce bottles of Bailey's. They are 327 calories for that tiny little bottle. I knew they were bad, but I didn't know how bad... Ouch! But I'm glad I know now!

    Chick-Fil-A Sauce...140cals in a little packet

Freaking humus!!! I was so mad. I figured I would have a "healthy" snack. I took out one of those small tubs and had it with some celery. 800 CALORIES!! I would have been better with a Big Mac (and more protein). Hell butter would have been less calories.

Magic shell ice cream topping. 210 Cal. For 2 tablespoons. I can go without no problem, but my husband loves it.

Not that it helps the calorie count, but you can make a healthier (no additives) version super easy. Just mix some coconut oil with a good quality melted chocolate that you like, and it's perfect! You can control the ingredients, so you may end up with more flavor and be able to get away with less than the 2 tbsp "normal" serving.

Blooming onion for Outback Steakhouse over 1,000 if I remember

Restaurants are *kitten* in that they give one person enough servings for four, including dinner plates. Appetizers are worse and anything fried is always double or triple in calories.

I used to eat a "healthy" wrap of egg whites and diced tomato every morning - until I found out the wrap was about 350... add the egg whites, tomato and the coffee and my breakfast was costing me nearly 500 cals - almost half my day's cals.... yikes!

Guerrero tortillas are only 130 calories and very low in saturated fat. I make breakfast wraps with two scrambled eggs, kale, sriracha ansd tomatoes and its rarely ever more than 400 calories total. Actually closer to 350 if I remember right. Egg whites instead would be even less since most of the calories are in the yolk, unless you're using the premixed egg white you buy at the store. And if you use only one large egg that's at least 70 calories less

Cheesecake. It seems to be a 100% efficient calorie vehicle; can go as high as 1600 calories per (restaurant-sized) serving.

I can always make cheesecake fit into my goals.

Same hahahaha and pizza, and I mean the greasy Dominos or Costco kind. I think about the calories and then say fight me to myself as I eat it. Worth it. Worth it every time. Cheesecake is way too good.

I am always stunned when i go to restaurants where they print the calories on the menu. Years ago when Starbucks was among the first chains to list them, I discovered that a slice of their lemon pound cake was 470 calories. I've ordered it once since then...and shared it with my three kids. Sometimes I miss the days of blissful ignorance.

Cheesecake Factory might be the worst offender. Some of their entrees are in the neighborhood of 1500 calories...that's more than a full day's worth for me. Granted their portions are huge, and I doubt I'd be able to clean my plate. In general, my rule of thumb when dining in such places is to never eat more than half of what is served.

Pastries in general - but especially pie crust. I love to cook and the fact that flour is so calorie rich is bad enough, but add shortening and .... WOW! And I love pie. :'( I love fruit pies, and cream pies, and savory meat pies. Mmmm. Pie! :p Forget sugar substitutes, someone make me a shortening substitute!

Oh and ANYTHING in a restaurant! Thank God for Google. I can just ask my phone for nutrition info for wherever and be prepared in advance. How they manage to make things so fattening I'll never know. I know I could re-create half the stuff they sell for less calories.

No surprise, most of the whole foods mentioned in this thread are very satiating-- especially peanut butter, avocado, sausage, hummus. IMO they are worth eating and worth eating often, even on a deficient. Others like pizza, cheeseburgers and pizza... that was a 'surprise' huh?

Dunkin Donuts, but it was in the other direction: only 260 calories for a Bavarian Cream donut? LOL
