Mine is t nearly as dramatic. But it means a lot to me personally because it’s the difference between prediabetes and normal A1C.

Took the first steps. 1. I threw away my underpants that are too large. 2. I filled a donation bag with clothes that are too large.

This is a great one! It’s funny that I used to think that losing weight would mean I wouldn’t be able to enjoy eating my favorite foods any more. Now I feel like it’s the opposite. I actually fully savor and enjoy eating, both the healthy foods and the indulgences much more than I ever did before. Mindless eating and…

I really enjoyed jogging while visiting family in Texas. The mild weather and low altitude combined with my slimmer body meant I could easily jog for 30 minutes and kept increasing my pace. It also felt like a milestone to not “force” myself to jog. I really wanted to do it because it felt so good and it helped me get time…

SO EXCITED to watch Marie Kondo on Netflix! That will be perfect for winter evening workouts on the stationary bike!

What’s the name of the website? Sounds great!

Don’t have any success stories yet, but I am newly motivated to do some clutter control while still on vacation The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up is an excellent book about getting rid of clutter. And she gives great advice about folding clothes neatly. The author can be a little too woo-woo for some, but I like her…

First, thanks to whoever first recommended Happy Scale. I just got the app and I absolutely love it. And I set it up to sync automatically from the MFP weigh ins. Seeing the green and red visuals helps me to know I’m still on track despite a few added pounds over the holidays. Second, thanks for the insights quoted above.…

Stayed within my maintenance range in December. That was six holiday parties, one holiday potluck lunch, ten days out of town, and three batches of Christmas cookies I made for my family! Also work is highly stressful in December for a school teacher but did not eat my stress. I enjoyed small indulgences, but didn’t spin…

Thanks everyone for your help. I’m going to work on maintaining 127-133 and reassess in six months. I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me that I could in fact adjust the goal if needed. This makes sense if I’m shooting for lifelong fitness.

I lost 28 pounds in 2018!

I’ve given up thinking I e “earned” any extra calories just because I exercised. I exercise for my mental health, to improve muscle tone, and to regulate blood sugar levels.

I am also a recovered “all or nothing”. What has helped me is a different program than MFP where I write down what I eat but don’t measure or count calories. My Body Tutor. Costs money but highly effective at conquering this obstacle. And regardless of what program you’re on, persistence is all that matters. Just dust…

Stick with it! The more you practice feeling your feelings and not eating them the easier it gets! I’ve been stress eating my whole life but I’m finally learning that my feelings are just feelings and nothing to be scared of. Don’t let that difficult person have power over what you put in your mouth!

So inspiring! My dad, sister, uncle, and aunt have type 2 diabetes and my two brothers are prediabetes. I dropped from prediabetes to normal A1C by dropping down to a normal BMI. And your post reminds me that even if I can’t beat genetics I can still take actions that improve my health.

This year for the the first time on Christmas Day we ate at a Turkish restaurant. The owners and other patrons were not celebrating Christmas and there were many healthy options. I also went for a jog for purely selfish reasons of staying sane amidst the stress of in-law’s! It was a great Christmas!

Thank you for your comments everyone. I guess the main issue is that I’m not sure what my “ideal” weight is. I’m in good health right now at 129, but I certainly would t mind losing a little more. I’m eating healthy foods, not skipping meals, and not going hungry. So is it okay to continue my current trend of losing about…

I took the sweets from kids and put them out at staff meetings. Not great I know because I’m still enabling others but I least I’m not eating it! I also received homemade tamales which are more special. I ate one and shared the rest with my husband who is underweight and loves tamales.

Yes my style has changed too with my weight loss. I bought two fitted sleeveless sheath dresses for Christmas parties. I used to shop at JJill for loose dresses with empire waistlines. JJill is a store that caters to women my age (50) but even their extra small sizes are getting too loose. Yep I am vain! And today I went…

I’m also trying to not gain over Christmas/ out of town/vacation. Also my goal is to increase my exercise to 5 times a week for at least 20 minutes per session.

Thanks for sparking a fun discussion. I am a woman, age 50, 5’3”. At 18 I did not exercise, ate a lot of junk food, and weighed 98 pounds. So clearly 18 was underweight and at a very high metabolism. At 20 I was 115 but again did not exercise or eat very healthy. At 38 I dropped down from 162 to 115 and this time around I…

Wow, I didn’t think about how much is going on emotionally with those big clothes in my closet. Thanks everyone for sharing. It is hard to let go of them because of how often in my life I’ve regained the weight. In addition, most of my work clothes from last year were dresses with no waist line and skirts with elastic…

I’ve been maintaining for about six weeks. I go out of town for Christmas week to be with my in-laws. Lots of challenges there: grief for my deceased mother in law, lack of routine, lots of restaurant eating, me wanting to cook my mother in law’s recipes for the family. My plan of attack: order salads in restaurants, eat…

Im an elementary school teacher. Despite being a “healthy school” we have an abundance of sweets in the teachers lounge and at meetings. But two things have been transformative and I can say with gratitude that I have not eaten a single sweet treat or “extra” snack at work since the school year started. So here is what has…

Yes there is quite a bit of controversy surrounding BMI. As a teacher, when I look at student data I try to focus on: multiple data points and larger trends. So the BMI chart for me personally is a useful data point. And what I’ve found is that when I am within the normal range of the BMI I have a normal A1C, good…

Thanks everyone that was helpful. I just started maintenance six weeks ago so it’s new learning. So far, I’m just doing the same things that worked to lose 25 pounds: Plan ahead for meals. Weigh in at least once a week. Set weekly exercise goals. Big one: use mindfulness strategies to take note of my feelings when I feel…

Hit a streak of tracking food on MFP for 365 days straight. Eat more veggies on a daily basis. Strength train 3 times a week. Continue my progress of not taking things personally.
