Had a rough week- raging PMT and exhaustion at starting a new job on Monday meant I was eating for Britain and didn't do any exercise. But I did get back out for a 3 mile run this morning and made it the whole way without stopping so that pleased me. Hopefully, that's me back on the exercise wagon. Unsurprisingly, made no…

Happy New Year everyone! :) I started a bit early so I'm drawing a line and restarting today. SW: 151.25 lbs GW: 121.25 lbs I have 2 little black dresses I bought off ebay which I daren't put on properly for fear of ripping them which are UK size 12. I'd like to fit these for a possible posh dinner in the Autumn. I'm…

Not the best of days to weigh-in being Boxing Day and having had a 2 day blow-out but Saturdays work best for me the rest of the year so I'm carrying on regardless. SW: 157 26th Dec/CW: 154 GW: 127 I'm only a pound up on Christmas eve morning so I'm very happy with that. Currently 6 days into a 30 day 5k run challenge as…

Hello, everyone! I'm Lorna. I'm from the UK. I've gotten overweight which isn't healthy and don't like how I look or feel. I have a very sedentary job and I haven't been moving much. I'm also prone to blow outs on marshmallows and/or chocolate. I had just joined a gym and a learn to row course at a rowing club but both got…

Do you know, I'm feeling very reassured about the diet soda drinking having heard all this. But I'm going to try and cut back- make myself drink 1 water for 1 soda. It's reminded me about tooth staining. Touch wood, my dentist hasn't mentioned anything else in all these years. The main case against the fizzy stuff is the…

I have a Polar m430 which I'm very happy with.

Well done on the weight loss so far. I'm just jumping back in after over 6 months away where I've put on too much weight because I've not been calorie counting and basically saying *kitten* it and scoffing that bag of fudge covered pretzels or equivalent when I'm tired or stressed which is a lot of the time. CI<CO. It's a…

Got to leap in and say that 576 net calories a day is waaaaay too low. While I appreciate 1200 cals a day might be a bit much for weight loss given your height, you'll struggle to get all your vits and minerals with less. MFP is your calorie goal plus exercise. So 1400 plus your exercise calories, or at least some of them.…

Mon weigh in SW: 145.5 CW: 145.5 loss: 0 Blaming a heavy gym session yesterday as I got down to 144.25 earlier in the week...:(

I can only get to the gym 4 days per week. I quite like the mixed 3 days of cardio/strength. I'm ultimately going to start training for a marathon come the Spring so cardio on tired legs isn't a bad thing for me. The sandbag is more of a row as I pull it up to my chest from shin level. I agree about the shoulder thing…

it's 10 mins cardio warm up, then: 3 x 10 knee press ups 3 x 10 barbell deadlifts 3 x max russian twists 3 x 10 sandbag deadlifts 10 x 20 secs high knees, 10 secs rest 3 x 10 bodyweight squats 10 x forward lunge/backwards lunge (both legs) Finished by 20 mins cardio (I increase the speed or resistance after each 5 mins…

Hi. I'm Lorna. I'm 39 and I'm from Scotland. I lost over 10lbs earlier in the year with mfp, most of which has returned (unsurprisingly). This time, I'm really going for it. I joined a gym last week and I'm going to do one yoga session and three strength/cardio sessions per week. I'd really like to lose 30lbs in total.…

I cheat and only log my weight when I hit a new low (assuming I'm actively trying to lose weight by mfp). Went to the gym twice this week and my weight shot up 2lbs from starting but today, soreness receding and I'm now at a one week and a day loss of 2lbs. You just have to accept TOM and heavy exercise are going to…

Not following a commercial plan but aiming for a beach body. Been given a plan from my gym induction for the first 10 weeks. 10 mins cardio warm up, 7 push/pull exercises (e.g. lunges, squats, deadlifts) then 20 mins further cardio. Did my first 2 workouts this weekend. Lordy, do my legs hurt!

Sometimes you have to keep trying different meds to find one that works and agrees for you. It took my psychiatrist to prescribe me 2 (ariprazole/Abilify and venlafaxine/effexor) together which has finally got me to a stable place where I have gone back to work 8 years after the initial breakdown. It's crappy but it's…

Go to your local recruiters. I believe that some of them will work with interested people, running morning fitness sessions. At the very least, they might be able to help you figure out a basic fitness plan. For the run, try the couch to 5k plan, available everywhere on the web!

Thanks. I guess the main thing is the 10lbs in a month advice was a stretch. I'll settle on the 10lbs in 10 weeks as my goal (I love a spreadsheet) but realise that it'll be good going if I manage it. I find if I have a number in mind, then there's a bit more incentive not to have that creme doughnut as I know I'll have…

I am also small framed- I have tiny wrists. Darn it. I was really liking the idea the machine was really wrong...

I'd eyeball myself at just under 35% if those photos on the net showing different percentages give an indicator. Saying that, I'm just starting to get fit after being very sedentary due to depression so there ain't much muscle mass to displace the fat.

Watching 'Strictly' on tv and researching bikini bodybuilding competitions on my laptop...

Thanks everyone for your help and feedback. So the general consensus is cardio on its own might be a smidge quicker to drop lbs but I'd be better off lifting as well? That's cool. That confirms I'll do the Muscle and Fitness plan plus cardio mix. Does yoga actually give any aesthetic benefits? Flexibility and balance, yes-…

Should read 2 options- no. 3 was the crossfit box but I'd rather do a traditional gym as I know I like it.

To finish the Yorkshire Marathon in October so I reach 40 in November the fittest I've ever been.

I'm not on any special diet except keeping to 1200 cals- although I am on anti-depressants for whom constipation is a side effect. If I get really bunged up, particularly around ovulation time, I get horrible period pain like cramps after a mile or two of jogging. I'm experimenting with the very judicial use of laxatives.…
