  • My starting weight was 171, January 3. I'm at 158 now (May 3). I'm 5' 4" tall. Thanks, I am happy about the progress I've made so far.
  • My goal is set to lose 1 lb per week. I have a sedentary job, but am fairly active once I get out of work (have a husband, 2 kids, and several pets to take care of, a household to run - don't have a lot of time to sit down at home!)
  • My weight loss has been uneven, but overall I've lost 13 lbs in 4 months. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/reports
  • Yes, I do eat back exercise calories. If I didn't I would never hit my goal at all.
  • I understand completely! It's wired into us from when we are babies (mother's milk is sweet!). My strategy is to allow myself a little bit, but don't keep sweets around the house - if it's there I will eat it! Logging helps me keep it under control because I have to decide: would I rather have something nutritious and…
  • Try drinking soy or almond milk instead of cow's milk. Dairy milk can be very constipating! Also eat lots of high-fiber foods like fruits and veggies and whole grains, and cut way back on refined grains like white bread and white pasta. Plenty of water too, of course. That is what works for me! Good luck.
  • Packaged convenience foods are where the price difference is the biggest. If you stick to whole grains, beans, produce (I try to buy what's on sale) and simple basics you'll do okay. It helps if you have a good discount grocery in your area. We have Aldi, and it's awesome!
  • I've been doing this a little over 2 months, have lost 10 lbs so far. (I'm 5' 4", started off at 171lbs). Exercising is the only way I ever manage to stay at, under, or close to my calorie goal. Make sure you eat plenty of nutrient-dense food, that helps too (fruits, veggies, whole grains, legumes, etc.). I have definitely…
  • Try making vegetable soups (we like using our crock pot) - they're filling and very low-calorie. You can always add beans, whole grains like barley or brown rice, whole grain pasta. I also love fruit salad with a little bit of nuts and soy yogurt. Don't beat yourself up mentally, either! Weight loss requires patience and…
  • Good luck to you! I've been on and off of here for years, and this time I'm giving it a serious try. I'm on my longest streak ever - 45 days, and so far 8 lbs lost! 1200 calories is impossible unless you exercise and eat back those calories, I've found. Make your calories count - eat the most nutritious food you can - as…
  • I've been vegetarian for about 20 years, and have been leaning more and more vegan. After all this time, I absolutely do not miss meat one bit! One thing you should know is that modern humans have evolved to eat cooked food (it's why our jaws and teeth are so small compared to other primates) so don't try to go all raw -…
  • The 2 lbs are back off - hurray! I do so much better when I'm not surrounded by sweets.
  • There was cake at work today - aggh! Hard to overcome a lifetime of automatically eating stuff like that when it's around.
  • Thanks everyone. I'm going back to my normal routine today - not giving up!
  • I was inspired to start doing this because of my dad. He had been overweight for most of his life. Once he started logging his food here and exercising regularly, the weight began to come off. I still remember when he called me to tell me he finally could wear a size large instead of extra large! It has been several years…
  • It's been a little over 3 weeks now and I have lost 3 lbs! Turns out the first one was the hardest.
  • Good luck to you! I've been vegetarian for many years and am (mostly) vegan now. There is so much great plant-based food out there! Forks Over Knives is a helpful website - just search and you'll find lots of online resources. I've had some nice benefits from giving up dairy - I used to have terrible menstrual cramps, but…
  • I lost another pound! 2 in l6 days. Not so bad! Slow but steady is okay with me, just so it's going in the right direction.
  • Thanks for the advice everyone. I will keep at it for at for another week and see what happens! Not giving up.
