  • So my thighs don't rub together. I gain - my thighs start to rub - time to get back on MFP!
  • I've put on 20lbs since August and I'm right there with you. Back to logging those calories!
  • Keep it up but tweek it. Buy a digital kitchen scale if you haven't already. Pay closer attention to your sodium and alcohol intake because those can cause you to retain water and seem like you're not losing anything especially if it's the day before your weigh in day. Add more fresh veg and fruits and high fiber foods to…
  • There's a lot of advice here that I didn't read but I just thought I'd add my two cent to the OP. I know with new relationships I gain a lot of weight because I end up eating out with him a lot in the beginning. And guys not only have the ability to eat more calories, in general men need more calories. So if your calorie…
  • Depending on the terrain hiking can be a lot more strenuous. If you are hiking on a fairly flat well paved out trail it's the same as taking a nice long walk, but when you're climbing over rocks, crossing streams, steadily making your way up a mountain side or ridge, carrying a backpack full of gear, what you are doing is…
  • There's no such thing as "your other half". You're a whole person. He is a whole person and you can only live for yourself, not someone else. You can only change yourself and not someone else. If he's being inconsiderate it's something you should discuss, not repress your unhappiness about it and resent him for it.…
  • Just WOW! :o
  • Welcome to the 40something club. You look great! Well done
  • nibs fiction or non-fiction?
  • Zucchini pasta is the most filling low cal meal I've made so far. I use a simple hand held zucchini pasta maker (retail between $5-10) and convert one green squash to noodles. Grease a pan with a little bit of olive oil, start by sautéing some onions, garlic, peppers, mushrooms etc then add the pasta, salt and pepper to…
  • Silver Star Trek or Star Wars?
  • Anything that you do to lose weight that you hate will most likely discourage you to lose weight. Find activities you love doing or have a great pay off besides the weight loss. You can burn calories just cleaning your home or making a nutritious home cooked meal. You can find simple activities you love to increase your…
  • You should find out, they're delish! I like looking into my guys eyes and they are brown. chocolate or vanilla?
  • Smoothie Falafel or kebab?
  • I love Barkthins chocolate bark. A 40g serving is 200cal but you can easily half or quarter that serving for a low cal chocolate fix. Vanilla and other flavor wafer cookies are only around 150cal per serving.
  • I have NO desire to try a keto diet but switching from processed sugars and starches to wholefood sweet and/or starchy foods cut my craving for sugar. When I've eaten something sweet like ice cream or piece of cake and find myself craving sweets the next day if I satisfy that craving with some fresh or dried fruit and the…
  • Unfortunately I don't have the benefit of having lots of calories to eat junk but if I did I'd eat more nuts rather than potato chips. I'm not actually able to eat much more than one serving of nuts a day which saddens me because I love them - almonds, cashews, walnuts, peanuts, sunflower seeds, you name it. I'm nuts for…
  • ONLY 6lbs lighter! ONLY? - This is the thing with folks that have significant weight loss goals. You think 5lbs of body fat is nothing and it may have taken you a couple months to shed those 5 or 6 lbs which is normal healthy weight loss. That is about 2-6lbs a month. But you think that is so insignificant. I always tell…
  • I don't understand what a "clean" diet is versus a "dirty" diet. Clean diet from my understanding is organic and chemically and hormone free fruits, veggies, meat and dairy. I never thought of it as "healthy food" versus "junk food". People who can afford to eat nothing but organic and sustainable food products more power…
  • Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl - This book was a game changer for me.
  • I don't obsess over food and post pictures of my meals all over facebook, but since MFP is diet and exercise related I'll sometimes share pics and links to recipes I try that came out good. My guy and me are also big restaurateurs. We like to eat good food from mostly small independently owned restaurants that locally…

  • Strangely I noticed my stomach flattening out first then my hips giving way and my pants needing a belt. My thighs always seem the first to gain and the last to lose.
  • How often do you expect the scale to budge? Are you expecting it to go down every month or every week? Weight fluctuates up and down on a daily basis. If you maintain a consistent calorie deficit and don't go above maintenance calories even on bad eating days you will lose weight and inches but it takes time. I used to…

  • Breastfeeding or not I wouldn't recommend the "slimfast" diet plan to anyone. It's simply not sustainable over the long term and it's a sure way to gain weight back quickly even if you reach your goal weight on it. A sensible balanced diet consisting mainly of healthy wholefoods. Shakes are just a bunch of processed sugars…
  • I couldn't say what is causing you to stall in your weight loss journey. It's only been a few weeks and weight loss goals >15lb (and keep it off) require a long term commitment to lifestyle change. All I can tell you is that during my last weigh in I was at my lowest since I rejoined MFP in January and then 3 days later I…
  • I have to eat at least 5 times a day, otherwise I feel very sluggish between meals. I don't believe it affects my weight loss at all as long as all my snacks and meals stay within my calorie deficit.
  • You look gorgeous!
  • The juice I do by volume. You can find things like raw carrot juice, fresh orange juice etc in the database. I measure the volume of each juiced fruit and veg and log it in millileters. For smooties I weigh out each fruit or veg in grams and log in the USDA calories for fresh veg and add in the volume of liquid.
  • The thing I learned on this journey is body shaming works both ways. People will try to shame you for being overweight and people will try to shame you for being thin. I learned to say scwew those people. I'm beautiful regardless of what the scale says. I don't care what anyone thinks. This is for me and not anyone else.
  • At 41 I decided to make a serious lifestyle change. Two years later I've lost over 60lbs and I'm back on MFP to lose the rest and exercise regularly and sensibly. I have two kids, age 2 and 14. Friend me if you want a perky 40something friend for support and encouragement. P.S. - my diary is always open.
