I struggled with weight gain for 6 years after I had VSG surgery. Gain 10, loose 5. Gain 10, loose 5. And the older I got, the more difficult weight loss became. The only thing that ever worked was a prescription for phentermine. It as a physician supervised diet, with monthly visits and accountability. I was able to loose…

I had GERD for years before my sleeve surgery in 2015, but I was never really told that it would get severe following surgery. Fast forward to 2020, medication no longer controls the reflux, I had severe gastritis and esophagitis. Had the bypass surgery in October 2020 and my life has changed dramatically since then. I no…

I had a revision on 10/29/2020 due to extreme GERD, severe gastritis and esophagitis. Haven't had an episode of reflux since surgery. Plus I've lost 23 pounds since surgery and I'm sure the weight loss helps as well. As @MeghannVT01 stated, I no longer wake up with a mouth full of acid, choking, coughing and having to…

I was never a fan of protein shakes until I tried Premier Protein Chocolate shake (premade, not powder). I had a gastric sleeve in 2014, tried all of the brands out there and ended up throwing them way. Then I tried Premier and I've been drinking them ever since (I especially like making smoothies with a shake, ice and…

Unfortunately, I continue to experience acid reflux almost five years post VSG. I’ve actually had to move back to Nexium to keep it under control. But I had severe GERD prior to surgery and was told that surgery may not be a cure.

I posted this in another tread and realized it is better suited for this conversation. Since I'm right there with you. I had VSG November 2014, and lost 60 lbs the first year. Then my weight started creeping up - my fault for going back to my sugary comfort foods - and I steadily gained back 50 lbs over the next 4 years.…

I don't want to scare anyone who is only 12-18 months post-op, but the weight does start creeping back in that second year. I had VSG November 2014. I lost 60 lbs the first year. Then my weight started creeping up - my fault for going back to my sugary comfort foods - and I steadily gained back 50 lbs over the next 4…

I was on bp meds for years. I has 221 lbs at my highest weight and by the time I got down into the 170's, I was taken off bp meds. I had to take my bp everyday at home, and log it for my doctor, but once I showed her the log, I was off for good. It's been over 5 years, and my bp is still normal on my every 6 month visits.…

I feel like my surgery was "forever" ago (13 months) and I seem to have forgotten everything I learned. Everyday I say I'm going to start the 5DPT and be faithful in getting back on track and back to what I know I need to do. First I forgave myself a 5 pound gain saying "I had gotten too thin". Then it was 10 pounds, then…

It's the Ambien. I used to take it a few years back (higher dose) and I did drive once and thank God my son was in the front seat and could steer the rest of the way home. It was really scary. I've also baked cupcakes, carried on in depth conversations etc. I thought that going to a lower dose would eliminate some of the…

Amazing. My insurance only paid far surgery at a Bariatric Center of Excellence as well, and the support has been worth it. Your story is an inspiration.

Tonight I'm not going to take any narcotic sleep aid. My daughter told me stories of how I was acting last night and I don't remember any of it. So it's time to end this craziness. I may be awake all night, but I will be in control of my actions. And I did bring this up at the last support group. My nutritionist was going…

Thank you for all your posts. I do still LOVE the new me who is size 8 vs. size 18! I LOVE that I'm no longer on medications or using a c-pap to sleep. I know I will now live a longer and healthier life. We all have so much to be grateful for. I will get back on track because I've been given a blessing in having this…

I am so glad I posted this today. Somehow it is motivating to know I'm not in this journey alone. Thanks for the thoughts and words of encouragement.

I'm almost 8 months post-op and my "honeymoon" period was over about a month ago when I made the fatal mistake of buying myself a pastry - that I intended to spread over multiple days - and ended up eating it in one evening. I ate sweets instead of a healthy dinner and realized how easy it is to slip back into old habits -…

Quest bars come in some really good flavors like Apple Pie, White Chocolate Raspberry etc. They are a little pricey at GNC, but I signed up for a GNC card that gives me a discount on everything plus they routinely put Quest bars on sale buy 2 get one free.

Mine was really, really bad for the first 12 weeks. I had to sleep sitting in a chair to avoid "throwing up" acid all night long. If I laid flat, I'd have to put towels under my head to catch the acid that would come up through my mouth and nose at night. That caused constant coughing from the acid irritation. Sorry if…

I agree. Since I've begun exercising, my clothes sizes have dropped significantly more than my weight. I'm firming and slimming parts of my body and definitely loosing inches. I also find I feel significantly better after exercise. Less stress and anxiety. So I guess it's a win-win.

It got better for me. I could not drink Crystal light for 2 months after surgery. Now it is my go-to drink. I never put sugar or sweetener in my coffee, but I couldn't stomach coffee again until about the same time as the Crystal light. Now at 4.5 months post op, I feel like my taste buds are back in working order. But my…

I keep a log of my weight loss by week ever since my surgery. So my official weigh in is on Wednesday, but I do weigh myself daily. I find that I stress too much if I don't weigh daily. But like others, I don't react each day. I just keep watching the weekly downward trend on my Excel log.

I had an interesting conversation with my surgeon last week. When I ask about hair loss, he said that all the supplements I was taking (biotin, iron, zinc) weren't going to make my hair stop falling out or grow back any quicker. Bottom line, according to my surgeon, is that my body went into starvation mode and I…
