  • @GaleHawkins - what is the name of the group?
  • Wait,... are you trying to say that obesity is not a life threatening reality? Because I know a few thousand Americans who would disagree with that.
  • Sprinkled in between this debate on sugar and addictions are some very real, very helpful tips on how to manage this first stage of food restrictions. Thank you to everyone who has something constructive and respectful to say.
  • Thank you for the motivation.
  • While I haven't had time to read the entire article yet, it seem like it is saying that all addictions are compulsive behavior and there is no such thing as an addiction at all. They specifically linked substance abuse (drugs and alcohol) to a compulsive behavior rather than a chemical dependance on a substance. Quotes…

  • Thank you for asking. Not that my mental status is a free for all, but yes I have been clinically diagnosed with depression in the past. I was recently weaned off anti-depressants under a physchologist's supervision and have been seen repeatedly to ensure that I am doing well.
  • As long as that popcorn is air-popped sans butter and salt, I'll pull up a chair too. Last night I was truly beside myself over this, today it has passed into the realm of entertaining.
  • That is awesome! Thank you for the encouragement.
  • So because you're a nurse you must be right? I consulted two paramedics and a nurse who all agree that sugar addiction is real. What now? Who's right? So you know or are an alcoholic and you're offended by my use of the comparison? What if I'm an alcoholic, does that make it ok? Unless you yourself have completed an…
  • The Americano is a step down from the 20 oz caramel macadamia double sweet mocha with whipped cream I normally get every day. I think I'll jump one hurdle at a time.
  • I understand this for sure and I never meant to start a alcoholism vs sugar debate. In reality, I am more interested in how people get through the detox and (let me be PC) "behavior modifications and psychological symptoms". I'm really trying to stay active which seems to help a lot. At this point, until I'm past this…
  • You can do it. I believe in you. Brandon[/quote] A heartfelt thank you.
  • OK small AP lesson. For all those out there whobelieve that sugar is not an addiction I challenge you to look up the definition of an addiction and what it does to your brain. You will find that the addictions to cocaine and alcohol have the same effect on your brain that sugar does and when you grow up with having a…
  • I came here for support, encouragement, and community. So many of these responses seem to be exactly not that. I don't even know how to process the backlash of people in a fit over my reaching out for help. Thanks guys. Really helps the depression.
  • No I can't keep hot chocolate in the house because I end up putting double or triple the normal amount of powder in a mug to make it an extra sweet sludge. When I say sugar addict, I mean that quite literally. You wouldn't tell an alcoholic to just buy less liquor and portion it out better. And it's not that I have…
  • This is exactly my problem; I can't have options in the kitchen when my cravings hit because I have zero% willpower.
