count me in. I've been slipping recently too. I definitely need some motivation and would love to help others :)

So interesting! I'm 5'7'' and my original goal was 180....that was a long time ago! Now I'm not quite sure, but I can't see myself ever going lower than 150....so maybe 150.

Tardy to the party but I'm gonna hop on it anyway! I hope our big mechanical scale at work is reasonably calibrated... SW: 171 CW: 171 GW: 161

Just for today, I'm not going to eat anything sweet. :)

Exactly. Know what else boosts your metabolism? Standing up. Eating. Sitting down. Sleeping. Not eating. Walking. Getting a coffee. Checking the mail. Naps. Gotta love those marketing terms.

If it is your stomach that seems to carry extra fat, you might look into your spine--hyperlordosis (aka 'swayback', a lower back that is exaggerated and sticks out) as well as an anterior pelvic tilt--which is usually due to sitting long periods of time, and tight hip flexors/poor glute strength, can give a potbelly or…

dude, that sounds like something Id only want to try while in VERY close vicinity to a toilet...haha!

Because he spent too much time on his facial hair.

When I say I have little experience, I mean that in relation to people who go to yoga regularly. With all due respect, you have no idea what I have or have not done in regards to trying out yoga. Which would put you as the assumption-maker in that regard. I've been to a total of five different centers in my general area (I…

What on earth makes you think that people "muscle shaming" are any worse than people spouting ignorance on other topics?
-
I think if you look at comments anywhere on any site, about any topic, you are in for extreme disappointment in the human race.

LOL!!! perfect.

I used to work night shift, moved to swings, and today my captain scheduled me from 2pm to 3am...so...can I pretend to be a night shifter for a few hours?

This is good advice! I've been wondering what to do while I wait to get an appointment with a physiotherapist, and my conclusion was just keep doing cardio, and do a looooooooot of planks! :D
-
Yeah and see I can't do that. I just feel ridiculous. :/
-
hahhahah yes! I'm an EMT and "sit bones" just.....yeah. And it's the "breathe into your arms" or whatever, I have absoultely no idea what that means. I tried an introduction to yoga course and that's when they filled me up full of info on asanas, hatha, vinyasa and other words I didn't really care to learn--I wanted to…

This was reassuring to read. I'm currently figuring out a budget and will be calling around to a few in the area at the start of next week. Thank you so much!!

I...am not sure who this is directed towards. I was talking to brian perkins when I said go find somewhere else to troll. So again...not sure what you're saying???

This was soooooo awesome to read!! I'm sorry you have those problems but I feel such a relief when I'm not the only one. And it's nice to know that a physiotherapist helped; can I ask what the price range is? I have never been to one and don't know what to expect at all. You can inbox me if you'd like. And this sounds like…

People sure don't like it when I criticize yoga. The deal is, it's eastern medicine, and has strong religious and philosophical ties, it's not just stretching. As I've said before, in yoga class I've been given dirty looks for not 'ohm'ing and saying my mantras. I find the idea of mantras unnecessary. And while I think…

And still more helpful than you. Go find somewhere else to troll.

It's so true about the core. I was so out of shape when I started that I literally couldn't even engage my core. I could suck in my stomach but couldn't "harden" my abs, you know what I mean? Now that I have the ability to do that I make an effort with every exercise. It makes such a difference. My gym does have free…

Thank you for this. I've been thinking that as well, about the stretching. I have flexibility and mobility issues to start with, and I believe that my squat problem (my lower back always rounds) is due to tight hip flexors. So I will be incorporating a lot of foam rolling and pathetic attempts at yoga into my fitness…

Thanks so much for this! And yes I will ask around and maybe google or yelp some locals :)
-
I'll look into it! The only yoga I enjoy is at home video yoga ;) Thanks!

It's nice to hear from someone who suffers similar--though I'm very sorry you have to deal with the pain. :( It's become clear to me that I really do need to focus on bodyweight exercises right now. Just because I can squat with 15-20 lbs doesn't mean I CAN do it....you know? Anyway, I think the writing down is a fantastic…

Thank you so much!

I can't do yoga either. The beginner class was a killer. Tried other classes, and while nobody was mean to me, lying on my back with soft music doesn't let me see what I am supposed to be doing. Plus it makes me fart. So no go there.[/quote] HAHAHHAHAHAHAH oh thank god. I thought I was the only person who didn't do yoga…

I actually agree on the point of the chiro. I tend to take everything he says with a grain of salt because chiropractic is not really a science, as you said, he's pretty much a masseuse who knows how to move bones. With that said, he is different than your standard hack and crack, and he takes xrays periodically--there IS…

Butthurt is real around here. Thank you to all of you who have shown support and given AWESOME advice!!
