I'd not heard or thought about chlorine damaging teeth. But just last week I did notice that my front bottom teeth were looking distinctly brown. I'd assume my dental habits had just gotten sloppy and have started paying extra attention to my morning brushing. But after your post I did some googling. Apparently some…

Interesting article, but it is focused on the metabolism of fat by exercise. But for diabetes management I'd be more interested in a similar article focusing on the metabloization of glucose in the same process.

Swimming, Biking, Hiking, Running (walking), Rowing, Cross-Country Skiing, Elliptical, Stairmaster, Dancing, and many Aerobic Fitness classes. Anything where you 'just keep going' for a long time with very few or very short breaks. Things that DON'T fall into this category would be Weight-Lifting, Circuit Training,…

Every 3 months right now, but with the expectation that it will switch to twice a year once i'm off all the meds (hopefully next visit). But I was also diagnosed within the last year and had an immediate and dramatic drop in response to lifestyle changes. (A1C from 11 to 5.7 in first 3 months after diagnosis).

I swim almost every day, and it is a huge help ...and I don't feel sweaty/dirty at the end. In muscle cells, contraction activates the same glucose receptors that insulin normally does. So it is a great way to get excess glucose out of the bloodstream circumventing low insulin or insulin resistance. So the best exercises…

1650m, 62 minutes, 14 sprint laps, mixed strokes ...little bit of a lazy swim today ...

LOL ...i totally wouldn't known that bit of swim etiquette and would have been a tad freaked ...

i generally love my audiobooks during my swim. But I do remember one particular swim where the character in the story was experiencing total exhaustion from a forced march through the snow ....on and on about the tired and the cold and wanting to lie down for just a little while ...and how maybe it would be worth it to die…

In My Humble Opinion it isn't a meal until/unless some animal had to give its life ...preferably multiple tasty critters ....someday i want to eat bacon-wrapped turducken ...

Really digging reading about all your firsts ...keep it going, exciting stuff I was lazy yesterday ...i had a rare day with no customer appointments so I had no reason to leave the house except my swim ....so i chickened out and called it a mental health day Today i forgot to check the clock when I started my swim ....and…

Most of the billion dollar weight loss industry would yell at me for saying this. But I don't really think you can lose significant weight without feeling hungry. Your body is designed to anticipate starvation. It wants to lay up extra resources (fat) for times of scarcity. So no matter what schedule you eat it on, or what…

How much under your calorie goal, and are you including your exercise calories in that? I've found MFP estimates of my swimming calories burned to be very very generous. So I never 'eat back' my calories. On the other end it is very easy to under estimate portions or calories on the intake side.

so a nice 'smooth' surface helps to prevent the little droplets from forming that cause the fogging effect. So, the advice to not touch the inside of your goggles is to prevent microscratches from creating a rough surface that helps fog condense. This is also why once goggles have 'gone foggy' then spitting in them or…

You can do it! I know our starting numbers were very similar. I'm hoping to off everything including the blood pressure meds after my next visit. My morning numbers have stayed low thus far.

Yup I lurv lurv lurv my audiobooks whilst swimming. My current one is the el-cheapo that CC referenced above. And it does/did work great for about 3 months. Eventually the rubber facing over the controls came unglued and fell off, since then it has been dying an aggravating death where it occasionally decides I pressed the…

1850m, 62 minutes, 15 sprint lengths, mixed strokes ....thought I was on pace for a longer distance but when I checked the clock time was up ...

When I started I totally thought this would never be a concern for me ...after all I am a dude ...and what's more I'm the sort of dude who prides himself on not priding himself on hair and such. 30 seconds is a long time for me to spend on my hair in the morning. But within a couple of weeks of swimming my hair was like…

Like most of you my frustration was over pool/lane etiquette ...The pool at Gold's Gym is just a lap pool, it doesn't have the size to have a 'rec' area. It is just 2 lanes wide, and that is it. (But there is a hot tub, sauna and steam room adjacent). Almost always I just walk in and there is a lane available. But today I…
