Thanks! The scale is only one motivation factor to be sure. I have others and I'm not "married" to the scale at all. When I started working out, it curbed the number of pounds I was losing but I noticed other benefits. The primary motivator is to live healthy; and generally, I'm on the right track =). Jon

Ok, post surgery week not so good. I was not able to workout this week and didn't make good food choices. As a result, I was up about a half pound (.6). The good news is I realized that the week was going to be tough and while I tried to keep it steady, I knew I wasn't doing the "healthy" things I need to do. I'm going to…

Well, that was a kick in the pants. I've settled into a rhythm eating well and working out moderately. I'm enjoying this lifestyle. Unfortunately my appendix decided it didn't want to be part of this adventure. After learning I lost 5.9 pounds this week, I ended up in the emergency room to have my appendix removed. I'm…

This was one of the best weeks so far. Maintaining a healthy diet (including homemade pizzas, shrimp alfredo, and other tasty meals) with moderate exercise resulted in a loss of 5.4 this week. That brings the total to 28.1 so far and was a great pick me up after a smaller than expected loss last week. I'm now within 100…

As a resident of the "Buckeye" (in this case balls of peanut butter encased in chocolate) state, we have a baseline of PB and Chocolate in our bloodstream, at all times. What we do is make peanut butter (easy as pie; buy peanuts, clean, cook in oven, blend) and melt dark chocolate (lower calorie) and combine into ball…

Jay, Great job in coming to this place and starting your journey to a better you! You'll hear the refrain a ton but the focus is to change your lifestyle and progress over perfection. I started at 390 myself and am down about ~23 pounds in five weeks. The key? Log everything, focus on "why" you want to change (NOT the…

This week has really made clear how important it is to adapt, commit, and embrace a new lifestyle during this journey. I really am focused on losing weight and reaching a goal (265). Firstly, because I want to be healthier and not only be around for, but be an active participant in my Son and Daughter's lives. Also, I feel…

Good Job losing 28 pounds!!!! Focus on the positives that your lifestyle changes have netted you already! Now keep in mind that if you continue eating right and exercising, you'll do nothing but continue to improve and be the best version of you for years, decades and more!!! Congrats and stay encouraged. Jon

I have found 2 oz to be a good amount (about a cup) once cooked. It makes a great base for a number of proteins (shrimp/chicken/mussels) or as a "stir fry" with veggies. Even adding some sauce is low-calorie. It comes down to being creative and adding lower calorie options that fit into your daily goal. Best of luck and…

Well, the levelling off has started and that's ok with me. I lost another 2.4 pounds this week. It was a bit of a startling slow down from the 5 pound a week average for the first month but I knew it was coming. The good news is that I got some cardio in 6 out of 7 days and even lifted some weights for the first time in…

Congrats!!! The first few weeks can be really successful and inspiring. As it progresses and becomes a lifestyle change, you may not see the dramatic results, but everyday you spend eating right and working out will make you the best version of you possible. Here's to a great 2016 and continued success!!!

Hopefully I can join this exclusive group =). Not quite 40 (39) but I'm 6'5", currently 370 on my way to 265 from 390. I have an open diary and would love similar statured gentleman to share this trip with. Jon

A little late checking in this week. A standard week without much exercise, but I ate well and ended up losing another 3.9 pounds. That's a total of 20.3 in four weeks. While I'm really happy it's going well, I'm still mad that I was down 43 last year and let it get away from me. Once I get 44 down, I'll feel like I'm…

I've learned I need more measuring cups! =) Great first month (my second time) and the difference this time is I've learned how to not eat the same thing over and over which was a factor in losing focus last time. Hoping to be down a total of 20 after weigh in tomorrow morning (16.4 so far).

There are good homemade ranch (greek yogurt and herbs mainly) and blue cheese (low fat SC/greek yogurt and blue cheese crumbles) out there. About 20-30 cals a Tbsp.

Without the "traditional" questions and comments that are sure to come (What do you mean healthy? / Eat what you want if it fits in....etc.), I can tell you that our family loves pizza or flatbread nights. We usually use a fifth of a prepared pizza dough for 150 calories and add about 200-250 (her) or 300-400 (me) in…

Redefine success and failure! If you start living a lifestyle to be around for your kids and grandkids, you are successful. The weight loss, the energy, and the longevity of life are symptoms of that success, not the success itself. Set MFP with a conservative weight loss goal and log and live baby!!! If you fall off, own…

You're not going to go 365-0; or 366 this year =). When you "lose" a day, look to make sure you win the next day and the day after. I think the best advice is to plan ahead; that can be done in so many ways and differs for everyone. For me, I meal prep my breakfasts, lunches and snacks for the week during the weekend. That…

OP, The good news about this journey is that you can control it. That's not to say that you'll have challenges (medical, work, family, etc.) but if you look at it as a lifetime journey instead of the day-to-day grind that we sometimes make it out to be, you will succeed. Allow the challenges to make you better and continue…

First, let's focus on the positives; congratulations for starting down the path to better eating and healthier habits!!! It sounds like you had a great first week from a weight loss perspective. I think a lot of people who start with "a lot to lose" experience similar results. I am in my second try with this and went from…

Three weeks in and I'm happy with this weeks number. I was down another 5.1 pounds. That's a total of 16.4 in three weeks. I know it's going to get harder but after my bad day Tuesday, I'm happy to have a decent loss this week. Looking to keep it going next week. The biggest challenge is to not get bored and find a way to…

The hardest part of this journey for me is when I knew I blew a day but couldn't totally count the "damage." then I have to wait until Saturday (my weigh in day) to see how much damage I did. This week I travelled for two days; the first day I was good; one beer and a sensible dinner with 12,000+ steps. the next day I did…

I love the attitude! I'm down 11.3 in two weeks; on the way from 390 - 265. I haven't made the time to exercise and get that started but I'm motivated by seeing people get after to it!

You just took a very important step in making a great and important change in your life! While you're focusing, and succeeding, in your weight loss focus on the great positives I read in your post: 1. You are starting a new job in you career and educational path. That likely means your passionate about it and you have a…

In some ways, the weekends are easier. We make peanut butter, can try some new recipes and I have time to cook more so than during the week. The problem is at night when we get together with friends or go out. Drinks are the worst. But yet so tasty! :).

Another good week! Down another 4.8 this week for 11.3 lbs in two weeks. Saturday's are not good days; another bad day of drinking and late night snacking. Plus I'm traveling this week. Always hard when the routine is broken. Hoping for will power and good food choices on the road.

It's about progress and not perfection; it sounds like you're motivated to crush this thing. Take it one day at a time and leverage the resources/people on MFP. I'm 6'5" as well and on my way from 390 to 265. Feel free to add me as a friend. One of the most helpful tips I have is to share your diary and look at the diary…

I would like to be 350 or less before our march trip to Vegas. Currently at 384.1(1/16); I started at 390.6 on 1/9. Total goal is to get down to 265; my next mini-goal will be 300 by our Disney trip in October. Jon

My wife and I had a similar issue when we started MFP. I'm 6'5" and started at 393. I was given 2600 a day and lost 45 lbs by just eating right (2000-2200 a day) and walking a mile or so a day. I'd even have some wobbly pops on a Friday and drop 3-6 pounds a week. Meanwhile, my wife was looking to lose a lot as well but…
