  • Try a cross trainer, I find it very easy on the knees because there's no impact. Agree with starting slow, you can't over do it immediately. Good luck!
  • I've just started Beta; it can be tough, some moves I just cannot co-ordinate myself but it's made a huge difference to my overall fitness and stamina. Do it, but stick with it. If you're dying, follow the modifier!
  • See a podiatrist - I had a very similar sounding problem, turned out to be collapsed arches, now I have made to measure insoles to wear 24/7. You may have a totally different problem (and I hope you do!) but a gait analysis at a sports store that wants to sell you some footwear may not suffice; see a medical professional…
  • I have made to measure orthotics for collapsed arches so I wear my trainers virtually 24/7. At the moment I have Addidas Supernova Glide Boost and they are sooooo comfy. My podiatrist recommended neutral support so that the shoe doesn't interfere with the orthotic, also try to find one with a one-piece sole to limit…
  • Have you considered speaking to a podiatrist? I had dreadful pain in my feet eventually diagnosed as collapsed arches. One pair of made to measure orthotic insoles later and I no longer have pain in my feet. I buy neutral running shoes so they don't interfere with the way my insoles work. Please be careful looking for…

One new pediatrician later, she has an Autistic spectrum disorder diagnosis and I'm very glad I didn't believe she was just slow and clumsy. Also had a consultant rheumatologist…
  • Depeche Mode - I forgot my glasses so I could barely see the stage
  • Parents don't change whether you do or not. It's taken me thirty years to realise that if I do one thing to make them happy, they just find something else to get on my case about. Do it for yourself, and balls to anyone else's opinions of you
  • Lancashire here :)
  • Monolingual? Unilingual? British? You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friend's nose
  • Draw rabbits on your head. From a distance they'll look like hares.
  • Can recommend using a cross trainer if you're not quite confident enough to run just yet - my fibromyalgia symptoms have improved dramatically and am just about summoning the courage to re-introduce the impact
  • I have arthritis and I love my elliptical trainer, I'd definitely recommend giving it a go. It's very low-impact so there's no 'shockwave' as your foot hits the floor like when you walk or jog, and you don't feel so tired afterwards. I'd second the advice about wearing decent shoes that support your feet properly; a gait…
