At thanksgiving I was in the kitchen making my plate. My uncle walked between me and the island, froze, then looked back at the space he just passed through and said, "That used to be a much tighter squeeze!"

I can only speak for myself on this, but I attempted a vlc diet during my first weight loss attempt. I wasn't at all educated on nutrition and didn't understand any of the health risks that went along with it. I wish I would have spent time in these forums back then, I probably would be at my goal weight already, through…

Are you using a food scale to weigh everything you eat? If not, you may be eating more than you think.

I sat down with the personal training director at my gym to discuss a recent back injury and taking some time off to recover. She said to me, "at least you're in shape, that'll make recovery easier and you'll bounce back quicker." Me? In shape? That is so hard for me to wrap my head around!

I'm usually up 4-6lbs the week or two before, then the second day of my period: Whoosh! That's usually when I see my lowest weight of the month. Yet even though I know the cycle and expect it, I get so frustrated seeing that higher number for so long. Lol the only reason I don't hate my TOM is for that new low.

Every October my husband and I go to the renaissance festival in full costume. I have a beautiful corset that cinched me in close to 10 inches (originally 5, but my waistline had expanded). Last year I remember crossing my arms and marveling over how close to my core they came. It seemed like it would be a dream to have my…

My doctor tried telling me that in order to lose weight, I just need to add a zero to whatever I want to weigh in a year and then eat that many calories. Not factoring in age, height, current weight, activity level, or even if the goal weight is healthy. I even brought up what that would mean if I wanted to be 100lbs…

This time around I'm eating more calories, losing weight at a reasonable rate, and eating the same foods I will be once I'm at my goal. No more "good" or "bad" food. No more unnecessary restrictions. Even though I may be hungry some days, I don't feel like I'm dieting at all. My mindset has also changed, too. Instead of…

My favorite pair of tight workout pants is now baggy on me. I need to go get a few pairs in a smaller size, but I can't seem to wrap my head around the fact that the next size down fits sizes 8-10. There's no way that could fit me!
-
I started at around 205, currently 172. Still a ways to go, but I'm getting there!

I can relate to this. I miss the reckless abandon when it came to eating. Digging into a pan of fresh baked brownies or going to a buffet and seeing how much I could fit on my plate. Now that I've discovered serving sizes and nutrition labels, there's no way I can (or will) go back to my old eating habits. I'm about…

seconding the food scale comment. If you aren't weighing and logging everything, there's a good chance you're eating more than you think. If you are weighing everything, it could be water retention masking any weight loss that is going on. When you start a new exercise program it's pretty common to retain water while your…

Lol I actually learned how to kayak in a lake with gators. It was at a boy scout camp where they always went canoeing. As far as I know, there hasn't been any gator attacks in the 50+ years they've been using that lake.

I signed up for a year of training at my gym because I had no idea what I was doing and I have a back injury that I have to be careful about. My first trainer was very energetic and encouraging, but he didn't care about proper form or really listen to what my goals are. He bought into too much diet woo and tried to sell me…

I'm 5.5" and 175lbs. I'm in a medium top and a US 10-12 bottom (depending on vanity sizing). Not sure what size I'm trying to get to, my goals are becoming so much more fitness-oriented as opposed to seeing a certain number on the scale. I do look forward to single digit pant sizes though!

A) I wish I had spent more time in the forums during my first weight loss attempt. I would have realized I was eating too few calories and restricting myself too much. Then I wouldn't have to lose those 30 lbs again. B) I wish I would have switched trainers much sooner. My first pt was a wonderful person and fun to work…

Had a session with my pt today. Towards the end, as I was exhausted and shaky, I was supposed to do 20 sit up/Russian twists with a 15lb medicine ball, followed by a 1 minute plank, repeated 3 times. While he was showing me exactly how to do it, I'm thinking to myself "there's no way in hell I can do this...." Sure enough,…

Op: I am in a very similar position! My legs and butt fit perfectly in a 12, but the muffin top is awful! 14s literally fall off. Spanx is my friend right now, at least until my belly shrinks enough to fit comfortably in my shorts. On days it's just too hot (I'm also in Texas) I stick with something loose and flowy.

Definitely on the path! 29lbs down, almost halfway to my first goal. CICO is taking the weight off, my relatively newfound love of pushing myself in the gym is giving me strength, confidence, and so many new goals to work towards.

I spent 5 years working across the parking lot from Katz's. It's safe to assume those shakes are one of the reason I'm on mfp lol
-
Wow. Just wow.
-
Buy a food scale, log everything you eat, and stay within the allotted calories mfp gives you. It works!

They were the ones who gave the best information and were straight to the point. They debunked the diet myths, shot down the fad diets, and cleared up a lot of misinformation. They may have been blunt and hurt a few feelings, but they were assets to the community.

I'm a stay at home mom as well. Naptime is a wonderful time to squeeze in workouts. I also recommend finding a gym with a good child care center. My girls love it so much that they wake up asking if we're going to the gym each day. Some days we make workout videos a family thing. My 4 year old loves anything that includes…

I like to make a big pot of chili over the campfire. Nice and hearty, and it feeds us all day. Marshmallows and beer are a camping necessity!

I usually like a light breakfast and lunch so I can pig out at dinner. I typically save about 900 calories so I can eat whatever I want in the evenings. It keeps me from feeling like I'm actually eating at a deficit, and sometimes I'm left with enough room to have dessert. I did attempt to save even more for dinner last…

I don't really care if my stomach is completely flat or not. Would it be nice? Absolutely! But as long a it's smaller than it is now I'll be happy. I just look forward to the day that my stomach is proportionate to my lower body. Pants that fit my waist are far too baggy in the legs and seat

Excellent post! I came in expecting a train wreck and was so happy to see this instead. I applaud you!
-
Thank you, I figured it would work like that, but I had no clue what to call it or if I was even correct in that assumption. Lol I wouldn't expect you to be a she-beast, bit I bet you look and feel great! Congrats on the loss

Seriously! Two months into lifting and my whole outlook has changed! It feels so amazing to push yourself and see just what your body is capable of. I may not look much different now, but but I love my body and the strength it possesses.
