  • congrats on the summit and the weight loss! Mt. Whitney is on my bucket list, but it may be a few years before I actually get to do it.
  • I switched a long time ago to diet soda. I was drinking a lot of regular soda and it was an easy way to cut a lot of calories while filling my cravings. I've cut down the amount of carbonated drinks right now since I think it's the source of my acid reflux. Anyways, the comment about caffeine withdrawal headaches is real,…
  • And there's additional water weight trapped in the hair, right???
  • Ignore your colleague. It is a real workout, but it depends on how much effort you put into it. If you're just sort of mildly swaying around, then no, it's not a workout, but, yeah if you're moving your entire body at a good pace, it'll burn calories. I do FitVR on the Oculus Quest which is a boxing "game". It's kinda like…
  • I alternate between FitList and Hevy. I still don't know which one I prefer. I like FitList because it works on my Apple Watch - I input reps/set on my watch my it gets a bit finicky sometimes and have to go back on my phone to correct the number of sets I've done. The UI on Hevy is nice and the graphics explaining some of…
  • Seems like Chantry Flats opens and closes randomly. I haven't gone in a couple weeks. It was closed when I went so we did Millard Falls instead. Heard that Chantry Flats was indeed open yesterday.
  • I'm trying to do 6 summits by the end of the year. Not sure it'll happen since I got a late start due to the pandemic and sheltering in place. Already did Cuyamaca and Baden-Powell. Next up is Mt. Wilson on Saturday, then Cucamonga, Baldy (San Antonio), and San Jacinto, maybe San Gorgonio. Gonna do Grand Canyon rim to…
  • heh. :D I think I'm following you around. We'll be doing Mt. Wilson this weekend but I read somewhere that Chantry Flats is closed so I'll probably be doing it from the actual trailhead which we've never done before. Hopefully it won't be too hot.
  • Yup, hope that the air does improve. And don't forget that you'll need a [free] Wilderness Permit for San Gorgonio after Labor Day (I think).
  • oof. Is that the smoke from the fires that I see off in the distance in the first picture? I'm planning on doing Baldy and Bernadino next month. Maybe I'll see you out there.
  • I was assuming the question as about masa harina. I've made cornbread subbing cornmeal with corn flour and it came out pretty good. Then there's corn tortilla, as well as the other typical uses for corn flour. I've also been told you can make bread dough with corn flour using half the amount of bread/AP flour.
  • 93. Don't know how accurate that is. No one in my family has ever lived past 90, most dying in their late 60's. My maternal grandma was the longest lived at 87. My mom is 72 and while she is healthy, I think she probably has maybe 15 years left. Pretty sad thinking about that.
  • What is #5 on the shoulder stretches? shrugs?
  • As low as 40 but on average it's in the mid-50's.
  • I always thought that headphones meant those big things that go over your head and over your ears. And what everyone's talking about there are earphones - little things that go inside your ears. I'm on my second pair of Jabra elites. It's easy to lose those things. The case opens so easily that when you drop them, the buds…
  • Last night I had homemade bacon cheeseburger with an eggplant calabrese spread. It was such a calorie bomb. I should've inputted the calories before adding on the cheese and bacon. Tonight will be bibimbap.
  • A very lose interpretation of kedgeree with smoked salmon and assorted veggies. Only 520 calories for my serving.
  • This is basically what my physical therapist told me. And it's ok to use lighter weights.
  • What are the ways you like them? You can try roasting veggies. Coat the veg with a little bit of oil and then sprinkling them with bbq rub or whatever spice mix you like then roasting them in the oven or grill or air fryer.
  • Prior to my shoulder getting worse, stretching at the inside corner of a wall helped a lot like in this pic. It only got worse for me because I kept pushing myself, trying to progress with handstands, L-sits, etc. My progress might be a little bit better if I was a little more diligent with my physical therapy. I went for…
  • If you're a cyclist, then you should already have a bike. You don't have to have an expensive smart trainer. I have a Kinetic Smart 2 trainer that cost me $300. I actually use it for both zwift and peloton. For peloton, I use my regular road bike on the bike trainer with the peloton app. The only downside to this setup is…
  • Back in late 2018, I had some pain in my subscapular that progressed to shoulder impingement and then full on frozen shoulder. Got surgery back in June 2019. I'm at about 90% recovered in terms of my range of motion. I still can't put my hand up behind my back and I still have a problem with what I think it's called medial…
  • Ripe jackfruit is naturally sweet, about the same sweetness as a honeydew melon depending on how ripe the jackfruit is. It's been a super long time since I've had good, fresh jackfruit so I'm just going by memory. I had one last year but it wasn't as good, probably because I got it from my regular grocery store and they…
  • I used to eat a lot of jackfruit as a little girl, but the ripe variety and eaten like a fruit. Young jackfruit is becoming a thing as a meat substitute. I'm not vegetarian but I've tried it out of curiosity, mainly from another post here maybe a year ago. No real tips - did it as carnitas and pulled pork. It was good, but…
  • I usually don't eat breakfast. Lunch is about 40% of my calories and the remaining 60% is at dinner.
  • Just go to the last page of the thread you're reading. I think what the OP is asking, for example, is a thread like "What's Your Most Recent NSV" which started back in 2014. I haven't read that thread in a year, so if I click on it, it'll take me to posts from last year. Someone who's never read that thread will be taken…
  • Do you like the app because there's an instructor chatting up, motivating you, and telling you when to increase the speed/incline? If so, there should be able to find youtube treadmill workouts. Here's a 30 minute HIIT treadmill workout, for example. Not sure if it's good or not - i just did a quick search. I'm a cyclist…
  • You don't necessarily need cardio to lose weight. Weight loss is about creating a deficit and the easiest way to do that is by eating less. Having said that, there are so many ways to incorporate little things to your everyday activities. For instance, I use my heavy cast iron skillet to emulate dumbbell curls. Or, I'll…
  • In the app, it is indeed under goals, but in the website, it's under My Home>Settings>Update diet/fitness profile.
  • Last night's dinner, approx 524 calories. Breakfast for dinner. Breakfast sausage with sauteed spinach, mushrooms, and fresh cherry tomatoes with a side of fried egg seasoned with hot chili oil.
