  • Ssmix I think your face looks different too. Nice pic you look great ! My avatar is my weight outside of the end of winter. As I mentioned the SAD takes a toll. Sometimes if I am at the lower end my face starts looking kind of, well, wrinkles show more lol so maybe I should get larger frames to cover that up haha!
  • My face tends to be oval but is more roundish when I gain and angular when I lose.
  • Thank you! I've been dealing with seasonal affective disorder, which causes weight gain in the winter. So I know I'll lose it in a couple of months now that spring is here. What I may do is go back and look at photos from last winter/spring and see. In the past glasses I have bought before and after weight loss sometimes…
  • Thank you! Yes someone who understands! And thanks to all the other people in this thread who posted helpful, supportive comments. You rock! I'm just going to keep on doing my thing, and if anything this thread has made me appreciate my Mom, and POSITIVE people, even more. I'm out!
  • @mccindy72 , this thread, for some reason, has over 155 posts now, even though I posted the resolution to it a long time ago and there was no bad feelings about moving the jam. I can't reply to every single post nor do I care to spend my life on MyFitnessPal trying to do so. And that's all this thread was about MOVING A…
  • ^^^ This! SAD is a form of major depression, which takes lives. Mild cases of SAD are differentially categorized as, "Winter Blues." There's a good book of that name by Dr. Norman Rosenthal, one of the doctors who discovered SAD, that might be of interest to anyone who needs to learn more. If I knew twenty years ago,…
  • Here's the other thing that I'll say, if just to bring more awareness of what exactly Seasonal Affective Disorder is. The strong cravings I was referring to are caused by a MEDICAL condition, which also causes other symptoms, namely, low motivation, not caring about things you normally care about, low energy and…
  • I know right @JaneiR36 ?? LMAO! I work my butt off (literaly?!?!) to be in the shape that I am! And it's not as easy at 42 as it was at 22 LOL! (But its not too bad either...) Fortunately though, I LOVE what I do in fitness and health! That's one tipoff for me that the SAD is getting bad though. Some of the symptoms like…
  • No, I had a 5 lb weight gain since the SAD snuck up on me this year and now it's approaching my TOM too. I posted that I check my AVERAGE weight over time so I know exactly where it's going and coming from. But it's getting better each day with my light therapy and I've already started losing it, so not a big deal. Don't…
  • Sure! This is from my "recipe box" here on MyFitnessPal that I use for tracking, but I don't know how to officially share the recipe, so here it is: 2 1/4 cup(s) Flour 1 tbsp(s), Baking Powder 1 tsp(s), Salt, table 1/3 cup(s), Coconut Oil 1 cup(s), Water 2 Tbs, Nonfat Dry Milk Directions: 1. Combine the flour, salt and…
  • Yes! Orange marmalade, blackberry jam, raspberry jelly, and real Amish apple butter!!! In the fridge there is mint jelly and jalapeño jelly as well! Yum!
  • Pbbbfffft. Do I look like I make excuses. Nope. I gain water weight with my TOM. I gain weight when I get hungry with SAD. Not blaming it just it what it is. I'm 5 or so lbs over where I was. Not 50 or 100. LOL. You can go flame another thread now, bye.... Fine. Any other opinions on the storage of jam - feel free to take…
  • Wow thanks for the support from those who gave it you guys! I am slowly getting better with my new light and schedule, and still working with timings of using it etc that work best for me. I also am listening to a book on mindful meditation, which is extremely helpful in itself. It also seems like some people like to…
  • Wow! Well I find it interesting all the points of view given here. Thanks for the responses! So first of all let me clear this up. This morning when my Mom woke up, I asked her directly, "Did I annoy you last night when I asked if we could move the jam to a different location?" She said, "No." I said, "Ok, because you sort…
  • ^^^That's what I'm saying Tanisha, didn't think it would be such a thing. I'll ask her about it directly in the morning. But she's also the type who will say, "No, it didn't bother me, " when it did. But she could also be frustrated with the situation in general. She has said before about me dealing with this that it's…
  • OK first of all for those who mentioned personal responsibility. I'm not blaming anything but I do have a medical condition that is bad and causes these cravings which are a hallmark of the disorder. I don't have this issue - at all - in the summer or when I live farther south. In fact I'm getting a nutrition coach…
  • I'm using TDEE because I'm tired of tracker inaccuracy. This goes all the way back to the Bodymedia FIT, which actually had me eating TOO MUCH and I gained with it. I did lose with Fitbit, but slower than predicted, and I was exhausted all the time and felt bad. I moved my calorie level up to FitBit's maintenance level,…
  • Well that's why I wrote that activity trackers don't track the activities that I do well. I had it previously set to sedentary as you described and linked to the tracker but as I said I'm moving away from that as it was inaccurate and too low. Today I finished the large wooden shelving unit, it took about 3 hours and the…
  • I don't think it was to the point I was anorexic. For one I hadn't lost enough weight for that and also it wasn't that long. However for a long time on and off I had dieted using these types of sites without good results. The one time I had lost weight before, I had a foot injury and so dropped my calories to 1200 a day…
  • Yeah that's what I thought. But I wouldn't want to lose progress as I was losing at the calorie level I was at before, but noticed the odd weight loss acceleration when I increased calories. I was also hungrier when I increased calories, but felt better overall too. I wasn't sure if the latter effect was just because I…
  • Well I dieted for five months and lost almost 20 lbs. I then ran a marathon. I went to what was supposed to be maintenance calories for eight days before my marathon to help carb load for the race. I started to lose weight _faster_ than when my calories were lower. After the marathon, I took a week off my diet, and so my…
  • The thought crossed my mind today that perhaps she is trying to sabotage me, even if subconsciously. I know that is strange to say. But for one, she's been complaining that her clothes are too tight and she's gaining too much weight. At the same time, I've been losing weight and it shows. She hasn't ever really liked my…
  • I have no problems with Xylitol in gum. I've been chewing it for a long time. Actually, at my Mom's house she is a snack-a-holic. There is food all over the place so it's actually worse lol. I'm not going to lie, just be real: I don't like saying this but she can be sort of a toxic person. Not all the time, she has good…
  • Hahaha. I am leaving for a week for my marathon and talked about going to visit my sister out west after. Perhaps that is it too. I asked my Mom if she wanted to go too but she nixed the idea. Last night I was all having a mental trip about the gum chewing and didn't do it. I snacked. Just before bed. At least, this time,…
  • Yes, she does have control issues! I just have to remember, "It's not about me..." and the limited time frame!!
  • Alright, I'm a certified running coach and I have been running for about 27 years. I'm currently putting in 100+ miles a week (well I've started to taper so this week will just be 92-94), so really there's no "too much" - elites run around 140-150/week. Anyway, earlier this year I had two non-running injuries as well as…
  • I've got a smaller frame and MFP exaggerates for me. I use it to track food and find my Fitbit closer to my actual rate of loss for activity.
  • 1 lb a week, or less if you workout a ton.
  • Thanks all. Yeah I'm 42, my Mom is 78, she won't change and I know this. I have confronted her but it just makes it worse - the family knows she likes to play the martyr. The gum thing did make my run go sort of bad today. I felt annoyed by it and couldn't focus on my first couple of intervals. But then I got into it and…
  • Well I was talking to my brother-in-law about this and he suggested the not chewing gum thing too, but it seriously does help me on my diet and I am not really wanting to sabotage myself due to someone's opinion of me. I take her almost everywhere so it's not like a one-off thing. Chewing gum also helps me with stress. I…
